Iran rejects US nuclear proposal over sanctions relief lack

Shafaq News/ On Sunday, Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf dismissed the latest US proposal in indirect nuclear talks, criticizing it for excluding any reference to lifting sanctions. Speaking ahead of a public parliament session, Ghalibaf reaffirmed Iran's readiness to demonstrate the peaceful nature of its nuclear program, while emphasizing that this remains contingent on genuine sanctions relief and tangible economic benefits. According to Ghalibaf, the US continues to press for restrictions on Iran's enrichment program while offering only vague commitments lacking legal or practical clarity. 'They smile in front of the cameras and talk of economic relief, but in reality, not only do they avoid lifting sanctions, they don't even promise to. It is clear that no rational logic would accept such a unilateral and imposed agreement,' he explained. Turning to US President Donald Trump, Ghalibaf called for a change in approach. 'If Trump truly seeks a deal, he must abandon his coordination with the Zionist regime and [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu's failed policies.' Indirect nuclear talks between Tehran and Washington, facilitated by Omani mediators, resumed on April 12 and have completed five rounds. Discussions have focused on the scope of uranium enrichment and the sequencing of sanctions relief, though significant gaps remain. Last week, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi posted on X that Omani Foreign Minister Badr Al Busaidi had delivered the components of the US proposal to Tehran during a brief visit. 'Iran will respond appropriately based on principles, national interests, and the rights of the Iranian people to the proposal,' his post read.

Sayyid Khamenei: Tehran Will Not Abandon Uranium Enrichment

Baghdad – INA The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Sayyid Ali Khamenei, affirmed on Wednesday that Tehran will not abandon uranium enrichment. In a speech marking the anniversary of the passing of the founder of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, Sayyid Ruhollah Khomeini, monitored by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Khamenei said: "The project proposed by the Americans completely contradicts the principle of 'We Can,' through which Imam Khomeini restored the Iranian people's self-confidence." He added, "The nuclear project is used to produce clean energy, and I hope specialists will explain its uses to the public." He continued, "Resistance means standing up to the will of the superpowers," noting that "nuclear technology will not be achieved without enrichment to produce reactor fuel, and we will not extend our hands to others." He explained: "Even if we had 100 nuclear reactors, they would be useless without our own production of nuclear fuel. Our insistence on obtaining 20% enriched uranium from abroad led us to produce it domestically." He added, "Thousands of nuclear experts and scientists are being targeted by the Americans, who want them unemployed," adding that "American leaders are proposing to disrupt projects in all fields and oppose Iran's development." He explained that "the U.S. administration is making many claims about dismantling the Iranian nuclear project." He pointed out that "the United States is an accomplice in the crimes committed in the Gaza Strip. What is happening in the Strip is a real crime, and security in the region cannot be achieved by relying on the Zionist entity," adding that "the Zionist entity is doomed, and its end will not take long.

Iran's Araghchi in Beirut: No compromise on uranium enrichment

Shafaq News/ Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Tuesday ruled out any compromise on uranium enrichment, calling it a 'non-negotiable national red line' during a visit to Lebanon. Araghchi arrived in Beirut earlier today from Cairo, continuing a diplomatic tour focused on enhancing Iran's relationships with neighboring countries. At a book event promoting Power of Negotiation, Araghchi dismissed the latest US proposal on Iran's nuclear program as 'vague and insufficient,' pledging a formal reply based on Tehran's national interests. His comments follow five rounds of indirect negotiations with US envoy Steve Witkoff, as talks aimed at reviving the stalled nuclear deal gain urgency. In Beirut, Araghchi held meetings with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, Foreign Minister Youssef Raji, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, where he reiterated Iran's support for Lebanon, framing the partnership as one of 'mutual respect.' 'Lebanon's stability is vital to the region. Iran has always stood by Lebanon and will continue to support it—especially against the occupation by the Zionist regime.'
