Real Bedford men and women promoted in same weekend
Real Bedford are celebrating a double promotion while talks continue about a possible merger with the town's other Southern League club.The men's team clinched the Division One Central title with a 1-0 home win over Kings Langley on Saturday, courtesy of Joe Evans' first-half penalty.The game was watched by cryptocurrency investor twins Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, who have invested about £3.6m in the club.And on Sunday, the women's team secured promotion from WNL Division One South East with an emphatic 11-1 win over London Seaward as Sofia Stovold and Abbie Bensted both scored hat-tricks.
Owner Peter McCormack bought the former Bedford FC in 2021 and changed the name to Real Bedford at the end of that season.He wants the town to have a club in the English Football League, and ultimately the Premier League.The men's team have now won three successive promotions under boss Rob Sinclair, but which league they will play in next season is still up in the air as talks about a possible merger with Bedford Town continue.Town, who were originally founded in 1908, are currently three points clear, external at the top of Southern League Premier Central, the division Real would most likely be in next season if they did not become a single entity.McCormack told BBC Sport on Monday that there was nothing new on the merger situation.But following Saturday's win, he said: "You create a project, you say you want to get a team in the Football League, and you know you've got to do six promotions - that was the goal."To do three back to back is incredible, quite overwhelming. But then it's 'OK, how do we do a fourth?'" The bitcoin podcaster told the club's social media channels he was delighted to have the Winkelvoss twins among the 1,426 crowd at the Eyrie."For them to see us win a championship, see what it means for the town, for the people and be part of the moment, it helps them understand it," he said."When they're in America and I'm explaining it, they kind of get it but when you're here and experience it, you know what it's about. It's going to help getting them more embedded in the project."It was announced last week that the first Universal theme park in the UK is to be built on the site of a former brickworks near Bedford and McCormack believes it has the chance to be the fastest growing town in the country."It's just a very cool time to be a Bedfordian," he added.

Club legend Colin Cameron ousted as Raith Rovers appoint Andy Kirk as Barry Robson's new assistant
Assistant-manager Colin Cameron has left Raith Rovers to be replaced by Andy Kirk. Cameron has been ousted as part of a changes to Barry Robson's backroom staff at Stark's Park this summer. The 52-year-old started his playing career at Raith before leaving his hometown team in 1996 for a move to Hearts. The midfielder had subsequent spells with Wolves, Coventry City and Dundee before moving into management at Cowdenbeath. And he then returned to his first club in 2022 as number two to Ian Murray, who he had worked with for a short spell at Airdrie. He survived a change in manager at Rovers last season when Murray was sacked and replaced by Neill Collins. With Collins then being replaced by Barry Robson in December, Cameron saw out the season as part of the ex-Aberdeen manager's backroom team. A hall of fame member from his playing career, he has been a popular figure with the first-team squad through all the changes. However, it has been decided to shake up Robson's staff for next term and the former Scotland internationalist has fallen victim to the changes. A statement read: 'After three seasons as assistant manager, Rovers legend 'Micky' Cameron is now set to move on. 'We'd like to say a huge thank you to Micky for his contributions during his time in the dugout and wish him all the best in his next chapter.' As revealed by Courier Sport, Andy Kirk is the man Raith have turned to as replacement for Cameron. Kirk has been been removed from his role as St Johnstone assistant-manager, with boss Simo Valakari keen to move in a different direction and get his own men in following relegation from the Premiership. Kirk was taken to McDiarmid Park as Craig Levein's number two following a spell coaching at Hearts and stints as manager of Hearts Women and Brechin City. The former Northern Ireland internationalist spent five years as a player with rivals Dunfermline but has built a growing reputation as a coach since hanging up his boots in 2014. A Raith statement said: 'Raith Rovers Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Andy Kirk as the club's new assistant-manager. 'As Barry Robson continues to build his squad, Andy was identified as a key figure he wanted to add to his backroom staff.'

The Rotherham club aiming to 'make football fun again'

The 37-year-old said the inspiration for starting the project came when he moved to Staffordshire three years ago."I was determined to find somewhere to play," he said."But everywhere I looked, the options seemed impossible."I either had to know loads of people to form a team or be good enough to join an existing one."I didn't tick either box, so once again I found myself on the sidelines."Honestly, it felt pretty rubbish and over time it really affected my physical and mental health."Over the years, I tried joining teams but I wasn't fit enough or good enough to keep up, and eventually, I stopped trying."After taking matters into his own hands and initially organising his own causal kick-about in 2022, All About Football has grown considerably over the last three years with more than 200 members signed up to sessions in Burton, Derby and said he was "always determined" to start sessions in his home town. The new 4G facilities for the Rotherham sessions are managed by the Rotherham United Community manager Johnny Allen said getting involved was a "no brainer"."We want everyone in Rotherham to be healthy and successful and unite the community," he said."I think you get to a certain age and have other priorities."You don't want time off work when someone's put a horrible two-footed tackle on you on a Monday night." More than 20 players signed up for the first hour-long session in said they had felt "uncomfortable" in other competitive Meakin admitted he had not stepped onto any sort of football pitch for 10 years."I did training as a kid and I loved it, but my head and feet had two different ideas," he said."I was never good enough to get into a team so there didn't seem many options but this is perfect for me." Dan Fox has a young son who plays football, but thought his "playing days were over"."It was a really good atmosphere, none of us had played together before so to have 20 lads with a range of abilities playing together was fantastic," Dan now has ambitious plans to expand the network into other areas of North Derbyshire and South Yorkshire, before setting his sights on Maltby and Chesterfield. The Exiles will travel to Sixways Stadium on Saturday, July 12 (kick-off 3pm) to take on opponents from Southern League Premier Central. The game in the West Midlands, at a ground more associated with the reborn rugby union side Worcester Warriors, is another on a plastic pitch. Cymru South Pontypridd United have announced they will host David Hughes' County at USW Sports Park on Tuesday, July 1 shortly after the first team squad return for pre-season training under the new-look management team. The trip to Worcester takes place before an away game at National League South Weston-super-Mare, who several members of the squad will be pleased to know have a grass pitch. That encounter in Somerset is on Tuesday, July 15 (kick-off 7.15pm) as new boss Hughes works towards the start of League Two on the first weekend of August.
