The Victorian Joint Counter Terrorism Team has charged a man over the theft of a car connected to the Adass Israel Synagogue firebombing in Melbourne in December 2024.
Early morning worshippers told police they saw masked men throw fuel inside the Ripponlea synagogue around 4am on December 6.
The fire quickly spread, forcing several people to flee to safety through a back door.
One person was said to have been burned.
In May, the Joint Counter Terrorism Team released CCTV footage of three people getting out of an alleged stolen VW Golf sedan, with two seen pouring the contents of several jerry cans into the synagogue and setting the liquid alight.
The car - which investigators at the time came to refer to as an alleged "communal crime car" - then drove off towards the western suburbs.
Police said the car had cloned number plates.
A 20-year-old Williamstown man was arrested on Wednesday and charged with theft of a motor vehicle.
He appeared in court yesterday and was granted bail to reappear in October.
A Melton South home was also raided.

Northland man charged with injuring police dog, drug-related offences
File image. Photo: RNZ / Richard Tindiller A Northland man has appeared in court charged with injuring a police dog and a raft of drug-related offences. Marshall James Dennis Joyce was arrested after a traffic stop in Whangārei early on Sunday morning escalated into what police described as a violent assault. The 47-year-old Ruakākā man was charged with assaulting police, injuring a police dog, possession for supply of methamphetamine and cannabis, possession of cocaine and LSD, and unlawful possession of ammunition. He was remanded in custody after Monday's appearance in the Whangārei District Court. He is due back for a list hearing by audio-visual link on 13 August. Police said the dog suffered an eye injury and underwent urgent veterinary treatment. Its current condition is not known. Earlier, Northland's top cop, Superintendent Matt Srhoj, said a police dog handler stopped a car on Kahiwi Street, in the suburb of Raumanga, just before 4.30am on 20 July. The dog handler spotted drug paraphernalia inside the car but the driver became aggressive before a search could be carried out. Srhoj said extra officers were sent to the scene as his aggression escalated, with pepper spray, a taser and the police dog all deployed. As well as methamphetamine, LSD tabs, cannabis and cocaine, police seized more than $5000 in cash. Srhoj said it was fortunate the police officer was not seriously injured, but the dog suffered a scratch to one eye and required urgent treatment. The 47-year-old man sustained minor injuries and was taken to Whangārei Hospital. Srhoj praised the officers who rushed to the scene to support their colleague. "We have no tolerance for unprovoked violence, especially directed to our staff who are just doing their jobs," he said.

Australian escort Madison Ashton wants to give evidence at inquest into death of Pauline Hanna
Sex worker Madison Ashton had a relationship with Pauline Hanna's husband, Philip Polkinghorne. Photo: supplied Australian sex worker Madison Ashton, has asked to give evidence at the inquest into the death of Auckland health manager Pauline Hanna . Hanna, who managed the roll-out of the Covid-19 vaccine as an executive director at Counties Manukau Health, died in her Remuera home on 5 April, 2021. Her husband, former Auckland eye surgeon Philip Polkinghorne, was found not guilty of murdering her after an eight-week trial last year. The Crown argued Polkinghorne killed his wife after a possible violent struggle, while he may have been under the influence of methamphetamine. The defence maintained Hanna died by suicide after many years of struggling with depression, compounded by work-related stress. A photograph of Pauline Hanna is framed on the wall of the Manukau Super Clinic. Photo: Melanie Earley Ashton - Polkinghorne's former lover - was called as a witness for the Crown but did not turn up during the trial. She told other media she decided not to give evidence at the trial due to being unhappy with the police's treatment of her. Ashton had since approached Coroner Tania Tetitaha's office, indicating she had evidence relevant to the circumstances of Hanna's death. This could now be revealed as the Coroner lifted a previous non-publication order. The next pre-Inquest conference is set down for August. I struggle to comprehend 'social media poison', says Lions captain Owen Farrell

Photo: ©INPHO/Dan Sheridan, ©INPHO/Dan Sheridan / PHOTOSPORT Former England captain Owen Farrell says he does not understand the social media "poison" that often surrounds top level sport and that contributed to him walking away from international rugby after the 2023 World Cup. The 33-year-old was named by his father, British & Irish Lions coach Andy Farrell, as captain for Tuesday's match against a First Nations & Pasifika XV in Melbourne, after joining the tour as replacement for the injured Elliot Daly. He has not played a test since stepping back from national duty in November 2023 to prioritise his mental health, before joining French side Racing 92, returning to Saracens in June. "I understand times are different and things catch fire quicker. Things grow legs, take a life of their own, go wherever they go and there's momentum behind them. But no, I don't always understand it," Farrell told reporters on Monday, when asked about the online discourse. "Both are a poison... the good and the bad. Not to say that it's all bad, but the things that should matter to me and should matter to us as players are the people that matter to us." Racist abuse online forced England women's footballer Jess Carter to step away from social media on Sunday, with the defender saying she had been a target since Euro 2025 began. Farrell previously spoke out against social media abuse when he condemned the online vitriol faced by England flanker Tom Curry during the 2023 World Cup after he accused a South African opponent of abusing him during a match. "I guess the people I think we should listen to are the proper rugby people, your mates. Not that those people will just pat you on the back," Farrell said. "You have people who will tell you where it is at the same time, but they will give you a real answer. If you do that and you are in a good place yourself, then you can deal with it." -Reuters
