This is a 12.5 per cent increase from the number of exhibitors at the earlier Natas fair this year. Two travel fairs are organised each year by the National Association of Travel Agents Singapore (Natas). They are typically held in February to March and August to September. Among the online travel agencies (OTAs) at Natas are Klook and OTAs gained popularity in the early 2000s, with global names such as Expedia and experiencing a surge in market share. Their growth has been fuelled by demand for one-stop platforms for flights, hotels and online discounts. Along with an attractive range of deals from established travel agencies such as Chan Brothers and CTC Travel, OTAs are launching limited-time deals to woo travellers this weekend. For instance, Klook is offering flash deals, tiered spend rewards, and destination-specific offers tailored for multi-generational or family travellers to countries such as Japan, South Korea and China. Ms Sarah Wan, general manager for Klook Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia, says bookings for multi-generational trips on the platform has grown since 2024, a clear signal that travellers are seeking meaningful, stress-free travel experiences. Scoot launching new flights to Japan, including Okinawa, and Thailand from December; tickets from $128, Lifestyle News
You'll soon be able to fly directly to Okinawa again as Scoot will launch three new flight routes, including one to the Japanese prefecture. The other two new flight services are to Chiang Rai and Tokyo's Haneda Airport, the low-cost airline announced in a press release yesterday (Aug 12). Scoot said the new routes will be rolled out progressively between December 2025 and March 2026, starting with three weekly flights to Okinawa from Dec 15, followed by five weekly flights to Chiang Rai from Jan 1, 2026, and daily flights to Tokyo-Haneda from March 1, 2026. The aircraft used for these services will be the Airbus A320 family aircraft, Embraer E190-E2 and Boeing 787 Dreamliners respectively. The new route to Okinawa will also be the only direct flight between Singapore and the prefecture, following Jetstar Asia's exit last month. Prices for a one-way economy ticket for Okinawa and Tokyo-Haneda will begin from S$190, and S$128 for Chiang Rai, inclusive of taxes. As of Aug 12, the new flights are already available for booking on Scoot's website and mobile app. They will also be progressively available on other platforms. In addition to the new routes, Scoot will be increasing their flight frequencies to several other destinations to support air travel during the upcoming holiday season. Some destinations include Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Ipoh, Jeju, Taipei, Tokyo-Narita and Sapporo. Beyond Asia, flight frequencies to Vienna, Austria, will also increase from three to four weekly flights from March 2026. Scoot said that the upcoming increase in services to some cities "will support stronger demand for air travel during the year-end and new year holiday periods". More Singaporeans shunning US travel over safety, discrimination concerns: Survey
Singaporean travellers are increasingly avoiding the United States this year - far more so than their Southeast Asian neighbours - citing concerns over safety, discrimination, gun violence and the political climate. A survey commissioned by CNBC Travel of 6,000 travellers from Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines and Malaysia found that 55 per cent of Singaporeans said their interest in visiting the US had declined this year - in sharp contrast to the 18 per cent in the region who felt that way. Only 7 per cent of travellers from Singapore said their interest in the US had increased, much less than the 44 per cent of Southeast Asian respondents. The survey, conducted between May 22 and June 10, also found that Singaporeans were more likely to cite personal safety, poor treatment or discrimination, gun violence, actions by the Trump administration, and border detentions as reasons for avoiding the US. The CNBC report was shared on Reddit and sparked mixed reactions. While some users shared positive recent travel experiences, others pointed to rising unease and suggested alternative destinations such as Canada, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China and Europe. "Lol we are the only country with visa exemption to the US in the region (excluding Brunei) and we have the least interest in going there, ironically," said Redditor Mozartonmoon. "Just went to the US in June and it was smooth for me (ig it depends on the officers but Singaporeans in general shouldn't have a hard time passing through)." they added. "Anecdotal, but I just came back from a couple weeks road trip in the US. Went to the Grand Canyon, Zion, Yellowstone and Grand Teton. All were staffed, maintained and amazing, no different from the previous time I was there," said another Redditor, lzx1. But not all the comments were so upbeat. "It's bad. My relatives who live in the US tell us not to come, lol. It's pretty wild since they used to invite us or always asked when we would be coming over," said Redditor kingsky123. Shibiwan, a Singaporean living and working in the US, recommended staying away for now. "There's just too much crazy over here right now. Guns are really not a big worry though. Hopefully we'll see a regime change at the next election. Re-evaluate then. I work in the tourism sector over here and we are currently down about 25% year-on-year."
