iOS 26 beta just teased the highly anticipated HomePod with a screen
The HomePod data was discovered by MacRumors, who found the foreshadowing phrase: "Your HomePod won't be able to show you the local weather, time, or respond to Siri requests about your area."
The suggestive word is "show", since right now the HomePod can't show you anything like the weather or time since there is no screen of any kind to display that information. But that could change with the upcoming Apple HomePod 3.
Beyond the slightly sketchy phrasing, there doesn't appear to be more in the code, but what's there is believed to be another hint at the long-rumored next-generation HomePod speaker.
Up to this point, only leaks and rumors have painted a picture of an updated Apple speaker that features an OLED iPad-like display that's supposed to be powered with a more AI-forward Siri 2.0, but no solid evidence has yet to appear.
At one point, the new HomePod was supposed to launch in March of this year, but recent rumors have pushed the device into the third quarter of 2025.
Part of the problem, reportedly, is that Siri integration. Many of the rumors claim that Apple wants to turn the HomePod into a home hub that utilizes AI and voice directives to control your smart home via the speaker, but that has caused a delay in development.

In addition to advanced Siri support, the HomePod 3 is supposed to control HomeKit and Matter devices, run Apple apps and work in a similar fashion to an Amazon Echo Show.
It's no secret that Apple is struggling with the building its own AI features. Recently the company was dealt a major blow to its Apple Intelligence strategy, largely because Apple keeps getting in its own way when it comes to AI.
It's gotten so bad that there are even reports that Apple may hand off AI upgrades to other companies like OpenAI or Anthropic.
Apple's Craig Federighi and Greg Joswiak spoke with Tom's Guide during WWDC 2025 and discussed Apple's approach to AI and how the company is working to improve Apple Intelligence going forward.
"We will announce the date when we're ready to seed it, and you're all ready to be able to experience it,' said Federighi said of an updated Siri 2.0. Since then, though, nothing has been announced.
Despite rumors that the HomePod 3 is still coming in 2025, it's not clear when Apple will finally release it, as the company continues to grapple with its AI problem.

Based on information from German mobile providers, iPhone Ticker reports the iPhone 17 event will take place on Tuesday, September 9. It fits with Apple's usual September schedule. This might be the last time Apple releases those four models together. We've seen rumors that Apple might split the iPhone 18 launch in two with the vanilla model and the budget-friendly iPhone 17e launching in the spring of 2027. In addition to the phones, we could also see the new Apple Watch Series 11, and potentially a new Apple Watch Ultra 3 and SE 3. We're hoping for some big upgrades. A leaked Apple timeline indicated the Apple Watch 11 and Ultra 3 are coming this year, but it didn't have information about any SE models. Both the Ultra 3 and Series 11 could be the first Apple Watches to get blood pressure monitoring, though the Masimo lawsuit is still ongoing as of this writing. We also might see the third-generation AirPods Pro. Though that same timeline suggested we won't see those until 2026. However, the headphones have been teased in iOS 26 code hinting at a sooner release. GPT-5 Is Coming. Here's What OpenAI Has Said So Far
Close followers of OpenAI's model releases are probably tired of hearing about GPT-5, the next big step in the company's line of flagship large language models. It's been expected seemingly all year. But the hints are getting stronger. Already this week, the ChatGPT maker has unveiled its open-weights models -- gpt-oss -- that have also been teased for months. These models, unlike the GPT models and other popular LLMs like Google's Gemini, offer transparency into how they work and think. Just before that release, however, CEO Sam Altman hinted that something bigger was coming too: "something big-but-small today," he posted on X, "and then a big upgrade later this week." (Disclosure: Ziff Davis, CNET's parent company, in April filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, alleging it infringed Ziff Davis copyrights in training and operating its AI systems.) The work on GPT-5 hasn't been a secret, and the hype has been intense. In a July interview with the podcaster Theo Von, Altman said he was testing the new model and asked it to interpret and write an email he had trouble understanding. "I felt useless relative to the AI in this thing that I felt like I should've been able to do and I couldn't," Altman said. (It must have been a very impressive email.) It's been a long time coming. GPT-4, current generation of the complex program behind ChatGPT and many other tools, came out in March 2023, an eternity ago in the world of large language models. There have been a lot of iterations since: GPT-4.5 rolled out in February of this year. Reasoning models have also emerged in the gap, including o3 and o4 families. GPT-5 was originally expected to happen in the early part of the year, but Altman said in April that it would be delayed a few more months. Developers found it harder than expected to integrate all of the elements they wanted, and Altman said they also wanted to be sure they had the capacity to support "what we expect to be unprecedented demand." That May Not Be Enough to Snap a Bad Habit On Sunday, he doubled down on the capacity worries, posting on X that "although it may be slightly choppy, we think you'll really love what we've created for you!" OpenAI's rivals haven't been sitting around twiddling their thumbs. Google's Gemini 2.5 models, released in March, incorporate reasoning while also being able to handle huge prompts. Anthropic's Claude 4 models, which debuted in May, include one designed specifically for coding and complicated tasks. But it's ChatGPT that fronts the pack as the most popular default tool for users, and a new version could extend that lead. It also might not be perfect. OpenAI had to pull an update to its GPT-4o model earlier this year because it was way too nice -- like, codependent nice, like it might not push back even if you're asking about something harmful to yourself or others.

The iOS 26 Beta Just Unveiled New Details About the Apple Watch Ultra 3
Apple may have accidentally tipped its hand with the latest iOS 26 beta: Imagery found within the build display pictures of an Apple Watch Ultra that doesn't match any existing products. The Apple Watch Ultra 3 imagery was discovered by MacRumors , and the resolution of the new Apple Watch's display doesn't match any other product. That might confirm that this model is Apple's new wearable, which is set to release this fall. A representative from Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The new Apple Watch could have a slightly larger display size than its predecessor, according to the discovered images. Whereas the Apple Watch Ultra 2 has a 410x512 display resolution, the Apple Watch Ultra 3 could have a 422x514 resolution. This is a nice bump over one of the best (and most expensive) smart watches on the market right now. While we don't know exactly when Apple will officially unveil the Apple Watch Ultra 3, it will likely be shown off alongside the Series 11 Apple Watch models and the iPhone 17 in September. While we haven't been able to officially pencil in a date for the iPhone event, it's likely that it will take place around Sept. 9. The Ultra 3 has already been rumored to be on the receiving end of several upgrades, including satellite connectivity and 5G support. The confirmation of a larger display size may lend credence to some of the other rumors circulating now.
