Cheapest shops to buy festival and camping essentials this week and prices start at just £2.50

The Sun16-06-2025
IF you're taking advantage of the good weather by heading to a festival or camping this week, you'll need to make sure you have the essentials.
But costs can add up when it comes to camping - especially if you've already forked out for a pricey festival ticket.
Luckily there's currently some great deals around to help you save on your shop.
The Sun has rounded them up for you...
Argos Pro Action 2 Person 1 Room Dome Tent
Price: £18.50
Of course, the first thing you'll need is a tent.
Argos is selling this two-person tent for just £18.50 currently (it's in the sale, down from £25).
The description on the website says it can be put up in about 10 minutes.
It has air vents to provide ventilation, a window and a lantern hanging point.
Reviewers say it is "brilliant", with one person saying: "Bought for camping, easy to use and kept us dry."
However another person said it was a little bit small for two adults.
Lidl Crivit Blanket Style Lightweight Sleeping Bag
Price: £14.99, or £9.99 with Lidl Plus
6
This one is a steal at under a tenner if you have a Lidl Plus card.
The sleeping bag has been temperature tested and can be used even at lows of -4C.
It comes in a blanket style for "better freedom of movement and a comfortable sleeping position", Lidl's website says.
Plus, it can be used as a blanket when unzipped.
The product is in store now but it's one of the supermarket's middle aisle buys so you'll need to get it before it's gone.
Argos Pro Action Folding Camping Chair
Price: £6.50
This one is another Argos bargain buy.
The camping chair comes in a carry bag so can be folded away for easy storage.
There is a strap on the carry bag that makes it easier to transport too.
The chair comes with a built-in drinks holder so it's perfect for either the beach, garden or camping.
Reviewers have raved about it, with one saying: "This is a very comfortable chair and ideal for keeping in the car for whenever you need it.
"Great value at £10 each and we bought two for the bargain price of £14."
Another simply said: "Comfortable, fairly light and good value."
Bar-Be-Quick Instant Barbecue
Price: £2.50
6
Are you really camping if you don't have a BBQ?
Of course there are plenty of options for portable BBQs, but if you're looking to save the most cash then you could pick up one of these.
The Bar-Be-Quick Instant Barbecue is cheapest in Morrisons at £2.50 but you can also pick it up in Asda for £3.
It's only one use so it's a good option if you're not planning to BBQ much in the future.
However if you are wanting to cook on the BBQ grill more regularly it might work out more cost-effective to buy a small portable BBQ.
This one is beach safe and already comes with charcoal.
It burns for up to one hour and can feed between two to four people.
Aldi Premium Camping Storage Box
Price: £6.99
Campers wanting to keep their belongings organised might want to try this one from Aldi.
The handy cases come in camouflage-friendly green or grey.
The product description reads: "A camping must have to keep everything neat and tidy.
"Use the boxes to transport your belongings, then fold down and store away easy when not in use."
The design folds down completely flat when it's not in use and has two pockets for smaller items.
Three camping tips from an expert
David Scotland owns camping equipment retailer Outdoor World Direct and knows all about how to make a camping trip run smoothly.
When visiting any campsite this summer it's important to make sure you're not making simple mistakes that could ruin your holiday.
Check your tent
David recommends putting your tent up a couple of weeks before you're due to travel to give you enough time to repair or replace any damaged parts.
He told Sun Online Travel: 'You'd be surprised how many people turn up with broken tents."
Test the ground
Picking a good spot to pitch your tent is difficult, with lots of things to consider.
One of those should be the condition of the ground you're putting your tent on top of, according to David.
He said: 'Once you've found the perfect spot, test the ground with your pegs before you commit to camping there to make sure the ground is soft enough."
Don't nap in your tent
It may seem the perfect place for it, but a nap in a tent could end badly, if it's done at the wrong time of the day.
David explained: "If the sun's shining and it's hot inside your tent - don't do it!
"One of our friends nodded off in his tent during a heatwave at Glastonbury and ended up at the medical tent with heatstroke."
Instead, he recommends finding some shade outside or somewhere well ventilated.

The pretty seafront campsite on the English Riviera with heated swimming pools that still has summer pitches from £12

CAMPING can be a great way to holiday, and it's even better when your pitch looks over the English Riviera. Think incredible Devon beach views, as well as swimming pools, a sauna, on-site bar, restaurants and plenty of entertainment. 6 6 You'll get all that and more at Beverley Park in Paignton, Devon, where there are plenty of caravan and tent pitches still available for summer stays. And one of the highlights of this holiday park is the views across the incredible Broadsands Beach in Torbay. There's also plenty to do for both adults and kids, including splashing about in the two heated outdoor swimming pools. For those who fancy a little pampering, the on-site spa has a sauna, steam room and hot tub, you can also catch a show at the Starlight Bar. Other activities include the outdoor adventure playgrounds, kids' clubs, paddling pools, soft play, family amusements and an indoor playroom. There's also a Jetty Restaurant, the Catch Takeaway, Saltwater Kitchen and Terrace and Boulevard Café, where visitors can enjoy the seaside staple, fish and chips, and have a drink. You'll find the campsite overlooking the incredible Broadsands Beach in Torbay, which is a favourite spot of Travel Reporter Cyann Fielding. She said: "I might be biased as this beach was a huge part of my childhood, but Broadsands Beach is a hidden gem. "At both ends of the beach, there are numerous rocks to explore and then the beach itself is made of the typical red sand found in Devon - due to the soil in the area." English beach town to get new £14million seafront 6 6 Cyann continued: "A long stretching promenade runs alongside the beach and there are a few places to grab a bite to eat or a coffee. "Whilst on occasions a lot of seaweed does wash up on the beach, Broadsands does have a blue flag." The campsite is unsurprisingly a popular spot, one visitor wrote in their review: "The views are absolutely stunning, friendly staff, brilliant heated pool, entertainment also really good! Such a lovely friendly family place!" Another added: "Plenty of things to do enjoyed bingo and family entertainment. "The food at the jetty was excellent including the carvery. And the view across the bay is amazing." There's still space this summer for a tent pitch, a family of four can stay for two nights between 26-28 August 2025. With two infants (children under four) this will cost £12 per person per night. With children over four this works out at £14.50 per person per night. 6 Along the coast, and just seven minutes away in the car, is the town of Paignton. It's best known for having a pink sand beach, which is caused by iron minerals in the sand oxidising in the air. Nearby, there's also Splashdown Quay West, which is the UK's largest outdoor water park. Soon, Paignton will have a new look as plans are underway to transform the seafront. As part of a £14million scheme two seafronts in the Devonshire beach town, Paignton and Preston Sands will be upgraded to improve sea defences. The seafront at Paignton will get new seating terraces, and the shelters, kiosks and cafes will be relocated as part of the overhaul. A new entrance on South Green will give vehicles access to the seafront, although no traffic will be allowed onto the promenade. Check out the ultimate staycation destination in Devon which has two beach-fringed coasts, stargazing parks and picturesque seaside villages. Virgin signs ‘exclusive' train deal in bid to rival Eurostar

Virgin Trains has signed a deal with a train manufacturer for 12 high speed trains in a bid to challenge Eurostar's cross-Channel dominance. In a submission to the UK's Office of Rail and Road (ORR), Virgin has requested the ability to run services on HS1, the high speed line that runs from London's St Pancras International and through the Channel tunnel. The submission has revealed that Virgin has 'secured binding exclusivity' with French train manufacturer Alstom for a dozen Avelia Stream trains. The trains, currently used in Sweden and Italy, travel at speeds of 125 to 185mph, and offer configurations such as flexible boarding heights, winter weather protection and 'active tilting' for reduced journey time. An Alstom spokesperson told The Independent:"With over 2,900 high-speed Avelia trains delivered globally and a proven track record in Channel Tunnel operations, Alstom is thrilled to support Virgin's submission to the Office of Rail and Road. 'We eagerly await the ORR decision and look forward to finalising our contract with Virgin." Virgin wrote in its submission to the ORR that it wants to launch services in 2030 with trains running from London to Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam. There are further ambitions to expand across France, Germany and Switzerland. If approved, this would put Virgin in direct competition with Eurostar, which connects the UK to France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Switzerland with a high speed network. Mr Branson wrote in the submission that he hopes to 'end a 30 year monopoly' and bring competition to cross-Channel rail. 'Just as Virgin has successfully challenged incumbents in air, cruise and, of course, rail, we're ready to do it again,' he wrote. 'We will shake up the cross-Channel market with our signature approach, delivering a service that is innovative, bold and unmistakably Virgin.' Virgin Trains previously ran domestic services on the West Coast Main Line from 1997 until 2012. The franchise recently had a separate application rejected by the ORR for Virgin rail services to once again run on the route. The office rejected the application, citing concerns over delays and cancelled journeys. Bids from Lumo and Wrexham, Shropshire & Midlands Railway were also denied. The majority of existing services on Britain's busiest rail line, which runs between London, Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow, are operated by Avanti West Coast. This time around, Virgin is hoping for better news. A Virgin Group spokesperson told The Independent: 'Virgin's recent submission to the Office of Rail and Road demonstrates that Virgin is confident, committed and capable of delivering for consumers on the cross-Channel route. We look forward to the ORR decision in October.'

When the trip of a lifetime ends in a medical emergency. From bleeding eyes following a mosquito bite to the stomach bug that has lasted three years - these holidaymakers tell their cautionary stories

The idea of a holiday in a far-flung corner of the world sounds appealing but it can come with risks and for some unlucky travellers that means the experience of developing a tropical disease. Just this week, for example, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) warned cases of the mosquito-borne infection, chikungunya, which causes fever and joint pain – and can in some cases be fatal – had more than doubled between January and June compared with the previous year in people coming back from Indian Ocean holidays.
