As the nation gears up to celebrate the 79th Independence Day on Friday, security forces have been deployed at four areas, including Doda, Bhaderwah, to ensure that "no one with ill intent disturb the peaceful atmosphere," a police officer said.Senior Superintendent of Police Doda, Sandeep Mehta, told ANI, "From a security point of view, we have four main venues, namely Doda, Bhaderwah, Thathri, and Gandoh. The Tricolour is hoisted at around 142 locations... We have made deployments under a well-designed Standard Operating Procedures to ensure that no one with ill intent will be allowed to disturb the peaceful atmosphere...Without mentioning Pakistan, the officer said that, "Our neighbouring country always tries to disrupt peace and communal harmony ... I urge that if you notice any suspicious movement, inform the police immediately. The Jammu & Kashmir Police and Indian Army stand united to protect you."Visuals accessed by showed special checkpoints being established at key entry and exit routes, where vehicles are being thoroughly checked, and the identity of passengers is being verified in Bhaderwah . Army patrols have also been intensified in sensitive areas.Meanwhile, the Indian Army has deployed a three-tiered robotic counter-infiltration grid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Tangdhar village of Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district, ahead of the 79th Independence Day celebrations.Speaking to ANI on Thursday, an Indian Army officer said that the troops are tasked with ensuring zero infiltration along the LoC."Our task as the troops deployed on the ground is to establish, maintain and ensure zero infiltration and establish a zero infiltration grid in this area... We do that in three layers," the Army officer said.Describing the three-tier grid, he said that the first layer of defence is the surveillance equipment, including radars, thermal imaging sites, weapon and helmet-mounted sites, and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs).He said, "We use the plethora of surveillance equipment which has been given to us by the government of India, including radars, various thermal imaging sites, weapon and helmet-mounted sites, and UAVs."The Army official added that the second layer is the obstacle system, which includes mines."Number two is the obstacle system, which we have incorporated into our defences. We have placed various types of mines and optical systems throughout the entire area of responsibility," he told ANI.The third layer is the army personnel on the ground involved in routine ambushes and patrolling.He said, "Number three is us, the men on the ground... We ensure that we send out routine ambushes and patrols to dominate the entire area either physically, by observation, or by fire."

Cultural programs have been organised at about 162 places across the state. It is our resolve that we will develop all the places associated with Lord Krishna as pilgrimage sites in the state," the CM said in a post on X. Janmashtami is celebrated as the day when Lord Krishna was born. Lord Krishna's birthday falls on the Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha in the month of Bhadrapad. Although the celebration takes place in different parts of the country, Mathura and Vrindavan hold a special significance. One being his birthplace, and one where he spent his childhood and did his baal leela. At midnight, a special ritual is performed when the idol of Lord Krishna is bathed in milk, yoghurt, honey, ghee, and water. During the Krishna Abhishek, bells are rung, conch shells are blown, and Vedic hymns are performed. (ANI)

"No agreements that would go against the farmers": Shivraj Singh Chouhan on US's demand amid tariff talks
Live Events New Delhi: Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday firmly stated that India will not enter into any agreements that could harm the interests of its farmers, emphasising the paramount importance of safeguarding their rights amidst ongoing trade talks with the US, especially regarding the tariff issues in the country's agricultural and dairy a gathering of farmers in the national capital, the Union Minister noted that there were global voices that had shown concern about India's rapid progress, especially in the context of trade agreements and acknowledged that while India seeks to maintain friendly relations and create fair trade agreements with countries across the world, the spirit of these agreements must be grounded in fairness and equality."In our country, the right of the farmer is paramount, and the right of the citizen is paramount. You know, there are many people in the world who are jealous of our progress. 'What if India makes great progress? Make an agreement with them.' We do make agreements because we see the world as one family. But the spirit of agreement is based on fairness, on equality," he highlighted the agreement made with the UK, where Indian agricultural products would be allowed to enter the UK without tariffs, benefiting Indian farmers . However, he was cautious about any potential trade deals that could jeopardise Indian agriculture."We made an agreement with the UK on equal terms so that the produce of our farmers can go to England without any tax. Many agricultural products will now reach England without tax. But if someone suggests an agreement that allows another country's goods to flood our markets, we cannot compete with them," he Union Minister pointed out the disparity in the scale of farming between India and many foreign countries, stating, "Their farms are massive--10,000, 15,000, or even 20,000 hectares--while our farmers often have just one or two acres, or maybe up to five acres, which is rare. There is no comparison."He also warned that an agreement that allows foreign agricultural products to flood Indian markets could severely harm domestic farmers, driving down prices and depriving them of fair returns."If such an agreement happens, it would kill Indian farmers. Cheap foreign produce will flood the market. If we sell our produce at lower prices, farmers will not get a fair return," he a strong reaffirmation of India's stance, Chouhan echoed the words of Prime Minister Narendra Modi , asserting that no agreement would be signed at the expense of Indian farmers."But PM Modi said there will be no agreements that would go against the farmers. Their rights will be paramount," he Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing the nation on the 79th Independence Day, reaffirmed his support to protect farmers, saying that he is "standing tall like a wall against policies which are against farmer interest.""If any policy is against India's farmers, fishermen, cattle rearers, Modi is standing like a wall," PM Modi about standing his ground in the era of 'economic selfishness,' he added, "I say this with great experience. Delhi Police bust cyber-extortion racket, arrests three including LSE graduate
New Delhi [India], August 17 (ANI): In a major bust of cyber-extortion, a joint team of PS DBG Road and PS Cyber, Central District, Delhi Police arrested three men, including a London School of Economics graduate, for allegedly trying to extort money through international WhatsApp calls and cryptocurrency payments, officials said on Saturday. The accused, who allegedly posed as associates of a notorious gangster to instil fear, were traced to Thailand before being apprehended on their return to India, they said. According to police, the case came to light after a complainant approached PS DBG Road, reporting that he had received a threatening WhatsApp call from an international number. The caller identified himself as a well-known gangster, demanded money, and even sent a cryptocurrency QR code for payment. The threat escalated when the complainant was warned that his children would be shot if the demand was not met. Based on the complaint, a case under Section 308(4) BNS was registered at PS DBG Road, and a joint investigation was launched by PS DBG Road and PS Cyber of the Central technical team swung into action using advanced & paid cyber tools, traced the suspected International WhatsApp call & the origin of the QR Code sent to the complainant, for the receipt of extortion money to Thailand. The previous crypto-transaction was analysed using advanced cyber tools in coordination with i4C, MHA, and the suspects were successfully tracked down in Thailand, they said. Meanwhile, surveillance teams in India monitored the suspects' local addresses. As soon as the suspects returned from Thailand, they were immediately apprehended. The accused have been identified as (1) Sumit, resident of West Punjabi Bagh, Delhi; (2) Prince, resident of Roshanara Road, near Pulbangash, Delhi; and (3) Nitish, resident of DLF Capital Green, Moti Nagar, Delhi – a master's graduate from the London School of Economics (LSE), police said. Two mobile phones used for generating crypto QR codes and making international WhatsApp calls were also recovered from their possession. During interrogation, the accused revealed that they were all heavily debt-ridden and sought an 'easy way" out of their financial troubles. Sumit, who works in the jewellery business and was acquainted with the complainant's family, allegedly orchestrated the plan. To create fear, the trio used the name of a well-known gangster. The accused conspired in India, travelled to Thailand to evade detection, purchased an international SIM card, and used it to place WhatsApp calls, police added. (ANI)
