Eagles Super Bowl: Area businesses cash in as watch parties sell out

Yahoo09-02-2025

The Brief
Businesses in Philadelphia are cashing in on the Super Bowl frenzy.
Restaurants and bars are hosting ticketed events Sunday, giving Eagles' fans a place to eat, drink and cheer their hearts out.
Philadelphia Super Bowl watch parties are selling out. Popular venues sold out within minutes of sales opening.
PHILADELPHIA - On the eve of Super Bowl LIX, as the Philadelphia Eagles prepare to take on the Kansas City Chiefs, Philly business owners said advanced ticketing and planning has helped them manage large Super Bowl events.
Meanwhile, Eagles' fans were out crowding into bars and restaurants Saturday celebrating Super Bowl Eve.
What we know
Philadelphia restaurants and bars are hosting ticketed Super Bowl watch parties on Sunday and many of them are selling out.
Chris Mullins, Sr. of McGillin's Old Ale House said their watch party sold out within three minutes of sales opening last week. They were also packed on Saturday for Super Bowl Eve.
By the numbers
"We opened at 11 and by 12 we were full on the first floor and the second floor full by 12:30," said Mullins.
McGillin's Old Ale House will welcome limited walk-ins starting at 1 p.m. but the venue will be closed for the ticketed Super Bowl event.
Yards Brewing Company also sold out their watch party within ten minutes of sales opening last Thursday. The brewery will sell beer to-go starting at 10 a.m. Sunday but General Manager Frank McLaughlin said they're closed for the ticketed event that starts a couple of hours before the big game.
"We have a DJ, we have a raffle, we're giving away a TV," said McLaughlin. "We've got a green seltzer called bird juice, so that's really popular."
Celebrating Eagles
Eagles' fans have been heading to Craftsman Row Saloon to celebrate the Eagles in Mardi Gras style. The restaurant and bar is decked out in New Orleans flavor including their menu items such as the Combo Po'Boy, loaded fries and the Let's Hunt Milkshake.
"It's going to be a big party in here like a New Orleans party, a Philly party blended together, and when we win it's going to be amazing," said owner George Tsiouris of Craftsman Row.
Tables are sold out for the Super Bowl watch party at Craftsman Row, but Tsiouris said to call and check to see if there were any last-minute cancelations. First-come first-serve walk-ins are also available for standing room and bar seating.
Celebrating at home
Many events may be sold out, but plenty of Eagles fans said they'll have front row seats from Super Bowl watch parties at home.
"It's frowned upon if you spray champagne on a public institution ceiling, but at our house it's acceptable," said David Beaver of Wilmington.

Dolphins duo among CBS' top 100 players entering 2025 NFL season

Miami is looking to bounce back from an 8-9 finish a season ago that left the Dolphins outside the NFL playoffs after consecutive trips in the two seasons beforehand. As the Dolphins look to author a bounce-back campaign, Miami needs its stars to be the best versions of themselves. In CBS' annual look at the NFL's top 100 players, the Dolphins boast a duo among that group headed into the 2025 season. There's just one problem for Miami: One of its biggest stars is likely on his way out in short order. Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was ranked as the league's No. 30 player, while cornerback Jalen Ramsey checked in as the No. 99 player in the NFL. Both players suffered significant drops in the rankings as compared to this time last year. Hill fell from No. 4 to No. 30, while Ramsey dipped from No. 43 to No. 99. Here's what CBS had to say about both: No. 30: Tyreek Hill, WR After two dominant seasons with the Dolphins, Hill's numbers were down in 2024. There were a lot of reasons, but he wasn't the same player. He had just 81 catches with six touchdowns. This is a big year for him. No. 99: Jalen Ramsey, CB Ramsey's play has definitely tailed off some from his best years, but he still deserves a spot on this list. Where he plays this season remains a mystery since he will be traded. But he can still help a team with secondary needs. But is he worth salary? - Pete Prisco, CBS. Trade speculation continues to swirl around Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey and it still appears as though it's just a matter of time before Ramsey heads back to the West Coast. Hill recently said publicly that he's going to put the full court press on a Ramsey return to South Florida. Time will tell whether or not that can indeed be effective. In the meantime, CBS' top 100 illustrates the importance of Hill on the Dolphins' 2025 fortunes in particular. Miami needs Hill to recapture the type of playmaking magic he authored during the 2022 and 2023 seasons when he notched back-to-back 1,700-yard receiving seasons. The defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles led the way in CBS' top 100 player rankings with 10, while the Detroit Lions had eight players on the list.

Derrick Henry Shows How Eagles' Saquon Barkley Can Break 'The 2,000-Yard Curse'

Derrick Henry Shows How Eagles' Saquon Barkley Can Break 'The 2,000-Yard Curse' originally appeared on Athlon Sports. History is not on Saquon Barkley's side this season. Barkley became the ninth player in NFL history to rush for over 2,000 yards last year. He was rewarded with the AP Offensive Player of the Year award and a Super Bowl LIX championship with the Philadelphia Eagles. Advertisement Now, Barkley is trying to do something few running backs have done before: build off that 2,000-yard season with another dominant year. Of the eight previous players who have rushed for over 2,000 yards, each suffered a significant decline in production the following year. Many of those backs even struggled to return to that elite level of play later in their careers. Since the turn of the century, four running backs outside Barkley recorded over 2,000 yards in a year. Only one has recorded over 1,500 yards in any year afterward. Derrick Henry, the former All-Pro and Offensive Player of the Year, recorded over 1,500 yards two years after his historic season. Just last year, Henry got the closest any running back has ever been to recording a second 2,000-yard season. Advertisement The 31-year-old ran for 1,921 in his first year with the Baltimore Ravens in 2024. Henry's ability to accomplish that feat is remarkable, all things considered. Few running backs over 30 are given a shot to compete in the NFL anymore. It's a good reminder of what Barkley could do for the Eagles. Like Henry, Barkley has battled some injuries through the years. Unlike Henry, Philadelphia's All-Pro is running behind the best offensive line in football. That is a huge difference that can help prolong Barkley's career. It's unlikely that Barkley will be able to record another 2,000-yard season in 2025. If he can get close to Henry's production in Baltimore, though, it could set him on a very similar path. Advertisement One that leads directly to the Hall of Fame. ... while also breaking the curse. Rookie Linebacker Already Earning Comparisons to Eagles Legends

Rookie Linebacker Already Earning Comparisons to Eagles Legends originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Philadelphia Eagles have a rich tradition of producing defensive legends, and rookie linebacker Jihaad Campbell is already being mentioned alongside some of the franchise's greatest players before even stepping foot on an NFL field. When you're getting compared to Eagles icons before your first practice, that's when you know expectations are sky-high. Advertisement FOX Sports NFL Draft analyst Rob Rang drew a compelling comparison between Campbell and former Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Trotter, noting that until Zack Baun's breakout season, Trotter was the last Eagles off-ball linebacker to earn Pro Bowl honors. The comparison makes perfect sense when you consider Campbell's versatility and athleticism. What makes this comparison particularly fitting is how both players bring that multi-dimensional skill set that defensive coordinators love. Trotter accumulated 12.5 sacks, 50 pass deflections, and nine interceptions during his 11-season career, showcasing exactly the type of well-rounded production the Eagles hope to see from Campbell. General manager Howie Roseman clearly fell in love with Campbell's ability to impact the game in multiple ways. The Alabama product can stop the run, rush the passer, and cover tight ends—making him an ideal fit for Vic Fangio's defensive scheme. It's reminiscent of how former defensive coordinator Jim Johnson utilized Trotter in his aggressive, blitz-heavy system. Campbell has also drawn comparisons to former Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier from other analysts, with both players sharing similar athleticism and playmaking ability. At 6-foot-3 and 235 pounds, Campbell posted impressive combine numbers, finishing in the 89th percentile or better among linebackers in key athletic categories. Advertisement The personal connection Campbell has to the Eagles franchise adds another layer to this story. Growing up in South Jersey as an Eagles fan, Campbell idolized Brian Dawkins and appreciates the intensity and aggression the Hall of Fame safety brought to the game. Campbell has said he tries to bring that same "tenacity" and "competitive nature" to his own play. There's even some family irony in the Trotter comparison. Jeremiah Trotter Jr., the son of the Eagles legend, is also on the roster as an inside linebacker and has been getting first-team reps while Campbell recovers from shoulder surgery. The two could end up competing for playing time or potentially playing together in certain packages. Campbell was rated as a top-10 player on the Eagles' draft board, which explains why they were willing to trade up with Kansas City to secure him at pick 31. The organization clearly sees him as a cornerstone piece for their defense moving forward. The real test will come when the pads go on, but having analysts already drawing parallels to franchise legends before Campbell has played a single snap speaks volumes about the impact he's expected to make in Philadelphia.
