Minnesota softball sensation racking up unreal strikeout totals

Minnesota softball sensation racking up unreal strikeout totals originally appeared on Bring Me The News. There's a softball pitcher in Minnesota who is putting up jaw-dropping numbers, and there's a very high likelihood that she'll shatter the state record for career strikeouts by the time she graduates from United South Central High School in 2026. Mariah Anderson is a 5-foot-3 superstar who has led her team to the Class A state championship game, and she'll be on the mound for Friday's 6:30 p.m. title tilt against Badger/Greenbush-Middle River. Anderson is 24-1 this season with 388 strikeouts in 170 innings, according to MNSoftballHub. She has 20 shutouts and seven no-hitters, including three perfect games. A stunning 76% of the outs recorded when she's on the mound have come via strikeout. Anderson pitched a five-inning perfect game against Blackduck in the first game of the state tournament, and she followed later that night in the semifinals with a 20-strikeout, two-hit shutout against Braham. According to MNSoftballHub, Anderson struck out 403 batters as a sophomore last season. How accurate are those stats? It's not really clear because the Mankato Free Press reported on May 19 that she had 293 strikeouts over 124 innings, and she's struck out 109 batters in 47 innings since. If that's accurate, she's up to 402 for the season. Either way, it certainly appears to be a state record. The single season record, per the Minnesota State High School League, was 341 by Aubrey Quern of Dassel-Cokato in 2024. Anderson is also sprinting towards the career strikeouts record in Minnesota. In the May 19 athlete of the week story from the Mankato Free Press, Anderson was believed to have had 1,264 strikeouts in her career. The 109 she's piled up since then would put her at an unconfirmed total of 1,373, good for second all time. 1,642 Maddie Damon, Kasson-Mantorville, 2010-2015 1,373* Mariah Anderson, United South Central, 2021-2025 1,309 Carlie Brandt, LeSueur-Henderson, 2011-2016 1,178 Lindsey Predovich, Virginia, 1998-2003 1,158 Danielle Schmidt, New Life Academy, 2004-2009 With another year of high school left, Anderson is on pace to shatter the record. As dominant as she is, Anderson hasn't committed to play softball in college just yet. It's an option, but she's also an incredible gymnast and could go that route. Victor wins fourth straight sectional title, Penfield takes home first in seven years

Class A Final: (1) Penfield 16, (3) Rush-Henrietta 9 Rush-Henrietta was able to keep it close throughout the first quarter, but a Penfield explosion in the second quarter would be too much for the Royal Comets to handle. Avery Fordham and Whitney Reynolds contributed two goals each in the second quarter to help push the Patriots to a 10-3 lead at the half. The two teams tied in the second half, but the early lead would help Penfield win the Class A Sectional title. Kate DeWald led the way with four goals and two assists for Rush-Henrietta. Penfield wins their first sectional title since 2018. They will now head to Clarence for the Class A state qualifier quarterfinals against Orchard Park. That game is scheduled for Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Rush-Henrietta finishes their season 12-6. Class B Finals: (1) Victor 11, (2) Pittsford 9 Julia Bruno scored three goals, including the one to stop a fourth quarter Pittsford comeback. Late in the third quarter, Allie Pisano whipped in a free position shot to give Victor a 10-5 lead. Pittsford rallied with four straight goals to cut the lead to 10-9. Two minutes later, Maia Pronti set up Bruno for the goal that would help the Blue Devils put the game away. With the win, Victor takes home their fourth straight Class B Sectional championship. Victor's Morgan Livingston contributed two goals and two assists. Allie Pisano added two goals of her own. Pronti dished out three assists. Victor will now play Clarence, the Section VI Class B champion. That game will be held in Clarence this Saturday at 2 p.m. Pittsford's season ends at 14-5. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Adelphi gets big break to repeat as Division II men's lacrosse champs

It was the timeout that made time stand still. Adelphi men's lacrosse captured its second straight D2 national championship in a 9-8 overtime thriller that only happened after the University of Tampa called a timeout with 12 seconds left — nullifying what would have been the Florida team's game-winner. 'Everyone's hearts just dropped,' junior midfielder Kyle Lewis, who scored the golden goal — his first in OT — told The Post. 'Right after the timeout, we got our emotions back and knew we had a game to play.' Getty Images Head coach Gordon Purdie drew up a special play to get Lewis the ball with 2:41 left in OT because he is 'maybe the hardest working player on my team,' who earned the immaculate opportunity. 'If you look back at the video, I had to see if everything that was going on was real. It felt like just a dream,' Lewis, of Franklin Square, said also praising the four-goal performance by fellow junior middie Vincent McDermott. Advertisement 'Going into next year, we're not going to look back at what we did this year,' Lewis added. 'When September starts, so does the goal to win another national championship.' Adelphi fans celebrate after their team's win in the Division II championship. Getty Images Twice as nice These Frogs are leaping for joy. Advertisement Carle Place is the place to be as the school's baseball and softball teams each just won Nassau County titles and will each play Babylon for the LI title. 'It's been 20 years since the last title for baseball,' senior shortstop Patrick McCarthy, who will play at Manhattanville next year, told The Post. 'It's going to continue this way. We have a lot of young guys that are brought into the program.' Senior softball pitcher Marissa Nosovitch, who will throw for Kutztown University, said that winning counties brought her already close squad closer than ever before. Advertisement 'We've been playing together since kindergarten,' she said. 'This would mean the world to all of us.' Top-seeded Wantagh takes on No. 3 Seaford on Friday at Farmingdale State at 1 p.m. for Game 2 of the Class A baseball title series. In softball, No. 1 MacArthur faces No. 2 Glen Cove at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Game 2 of the AA Class final at FSU.
