Reds place outfielder Fraley on injured list with left calf tenderness
HOUSTON (AP) — The Cincinnati Reds placed outfielder Jake Fraley on the 10-day injured list with left calf tenderness Saturday.
The move, which is retroactive to Wednesday, comes after he tried to return Friday night in the opener of a series against the Houston Astros but was scratched about an hour before the game.
Fraley is hitting .205 with three homers and nine RBIs in 28 games this season.
His is the latest in a string of injuries for the Reds, who placed right-hander Hunter Greene on the injured list with a groin strain Friday.

PHOENIX (AP) — The Phoenix Suns hired Cleveland Cavaliers assistant Jordan Ott as their head coach, opting for a young, emerging leader to rebuild a franchise that has regressed over the past few seasons, a person familiar with the search told The Associated Press on Wednesday. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the hire hasn't officially been announced. Ott will be the team's fourth head coach in four seasons and replaces Mike Budenholzer, who was fired following a miserable 36-46 season that ended without a trip to the playoffs despite the high-priced trio of Devin Booker, Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal. The 40-year-old Ott has worked for the Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, Los Angeles Lakers and the Cavaliers. He also worked as a video coordinator under Tom Izzo at Michigan State, which is where Suns owner Mat Ishbia played as a walk-on from 1999 to 2003. It remains to be seen if Durant or Beal will be on next season's roster — both could be moved in trades. Booker seems like the only player on the roster who is truly untouchable after 10 seasons in the desert, including four All-Star appearances. Ott and fellow Cavs assistant Johnnie Bryant were the two finalists for the job. Both worked under Kenny Atkinson, helping lead Cleveland to a 64-18 record this season, which was the best record in the NBA's Eastern Conference. Ishbia and general manager Brian Gregory led a lengthy, deliberate search that lasted 1 1/2 months and included more than a dozen candidates. Gregory also has Michigan State ties as a former assistant coach. ESPN first reported the hiring. Ott takes over a franchise that's had a quick rise and fall over the past five years. The Suns made the NBA Finals in 2021 with a core that included Booker, Deandre Ayton, Mikal Bridges, Chris Paul, Cameron Johnson and coach Monty Williams, but lost to the Milwaukee Bucks in six games. Phoenix had the best record in the NBA the next season before losing to the Dallas Mavericks in the second round. Ishbia blew up that nucleus shortly after purchasing the team in 2023, trading for superstar Kevin Durant, but the Suns lost again in the postseason's second round, this time to the eventual champion Denver Nuggets. Williams was fired following the season, which started the franchise's sideline shuffle. The Suns traded for three-time All-Star Bradley Beal and hired coach Frank Vogel during the ensuing offseason, but the group never seemed to gel. Phoenix was swept by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the opening round of the playoffs in 2024, leading to Vogel's firing. Budenholzer replaced Vogel before last season, but the Suns didn't even make it to the play-in tournament in 2025.

Cool Jazz back at Yankee Stadium as Chisholm's homer sparks New York to 3-2 win over Cleveland
NEW YORK — The New York Yankees had been missing their cool Jazz. Sidelined since April 29 by a strained right oblique, Jazz Chisholm Jr. drove Tanner Bibee's first pitch of the seventh inning toward the right-center stands. He shuffled up the first-base line, holding his bat, convinced it was a tiebreaking home run. And it was, barely, caught by a fan in the first row, 358 feet from home plate. 'Our hitting coach told me a story about Reggie Jackson,' Chisholm said after the 3-2 win over the Cleveland Guardians. 'He hit a homer that barely went over the fence. And he was like, `Hey, Reggie, how did you know that was gone?' And he's like, `Well, I hit 567 (actually 563) of them.' So I told my coach, my story is that I've hit 1,000 homers in my dreams, so I had to know that one was gone, right?' Chisholm went 2 for 3, also blooping a fifth-inning single for the Yankees' first hit and scoring on DJ LeMahieu's single. Anthony Volpe went deep six pitches after Chisholm, giving New York back-to-back homers for the fifth time this season. 'Honestly, I pictured a 3 for 3, but I'd take a 2 for 3,' Chisholm said. He returned to third base, his position with the Yankees last year, after making 29 starts at second through April 29, when he got hurt at Baltimore. New York manager Aaron Boone decided to leave LeMahieu at second, where he's started since coming back from a spring training calf injury on May 13. Chisholm didn't complain about the position switch and gushed: 'This is my favorite organization I've ever been a part of.' 'I just want to win. I want a ring,' Chisholm said. 'You got (Aaron) Judge. You got Volpe, and they come and talk to you and when you have such a good relationship with the manager, I mean, you don't mind doing anything for a guy that you have a good friendship with.' An All-Star with Miami in 2022, the 27-year-old played middle infield for the Marlins from 2020-22, was moved to center field from 2023-24, then inserted at third when the Yankees acquired him in a trade last July 27. 'Everyone's really pumped for him and happy for us that he's back helping us,' Volpe said. 'He's just so smooth and has such a great arm that you can play wherever you want to play with him over there.' Wearing a baby blue, 11 1/2-inch glove from his own company, Absolutely Ridiculous Innovation for Athletes (ARIA), Chisholm grabbed Ángel Martínez's grounder down the line in the third and made a strong one-hop throw to first from foul territory for an inning-ending out. The glove is intended to be used for Father's Day on June 15 and Chisholm started to break it in during three rehab games at Double-A Somerset. 'Sometimes you catch the ball over there at third base and you look at the first baseman and you're like, wow, he's pretty far,' Chisholm said. He is batting just .194 with eight homers and 18 RBIs. But in addition to his bat and glove, Chisholm adds a vivacious personality. 'Really excited to have him back and good to see him have that kind of impact right away,' Boone said. Devin Williams, back as closer after Luke Weaver strained a hamstring, allowed Carlos Santana's one-out double and pinch-hitter Daniel Schneemann's two-out RBI single in the ninth, then retired Bo Naylor on a flyout for his sixth save as AL East-leading New York won for the 11th time in 14 games. During spring training, Boone and the Yankees talked of Chisholm combining with Volpe, the third-year shortstop, on an exiting double-play combination. 'I really thought I was done at third base,' Chisholm said. 'I thought I left my career over there with a good stamp, but I guess we're back again. We got to shine again. We can't let that reputation go down at third base.'

Bryson DeChambeau is back to competing, preparing for US Open title defense after 'fun side quests'
GAINESVILLE, Va. (AP) — As much as Bryson DeChambeau loves to practice and compete, the U.S. Open champion also appreciates the limited LIV Golf schedule that gives him time to pursue other interests. DeChambeau arrived at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club for LIV Golf Virginia after a characteristically busy few days that included a round of golf with President Donald Trump and some short-game practice on the South Lawn of the White House. Now the big-hitting YouTube star turns his attention to the 54-hole LIV event that starts Friday at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club. He said the thick rough and fast greens at RTJ would help prepare him for Oakmont, where he will try next week to win his third U.S. Open after triumphs last year at Pinehurst No. 2 and in 2020 at Winged Foot. 'I think LIV afforded me the opportunity to spend more time thinking, strategizing, getting my body healthy, ready for majors in a pretty unique way,' DeChambeau said Wednesday. 'For me, it was a great thing. I thought there was an opportunity to do other things in life, and look, do I want to win every single tournament I show up to? 100%.' The RTJ event is the eighth of 14 tournaments this year for the globetrotting, Saudi-funded LIV Golf League. Although PGA Tour players have more freedom to set their own schedules, they typically play more often. For top-ranked Scottie Scheffler, the U.S. Open will be the fourth of five events in a seven-week stretch. DeChambeau hasn't competed since last month's PGA Championship, won by Scheffler. While DeChambeau was enjoying a friendly round with Trump and posting a YouTube short in which he hit golf balls from the top of a mountain and the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, Scheffler was finishing off his third win of the past month at the Memorial. 'I've been doing some fun side quests, yes, there's no doubt,' DeChambeau said. When he does compete, nobody practices harder than DeChambeau. He hit 1,029 range balls — more than anyone else in the field — at the Masters, where he finished in a tie for fifth. The 31-year-old DeChambeau said he developed his practice habits as a teenager, when other junior golfers in California were beating him even though they didn't appear to try as hard. 'It stemmed from me not being as good as others and then realizing I can only be as good as how hard I work,' DeChambeau said. 'So I just became obsessed with hitting crazy amounts of golf balls.' Known for trying to optimize his swing and his equipment to produce a consistent ball flight — a long, high draw — DeChambeau also spends time practicing the unusual shots he needs to finish off tournaments. 'As much as I am a robot, and try to swing it as straight as possible and just stable as possible, I still do have to hit cuts and draws and hit weird shots every once in a while,' he said. 'Giving myself those opportunities in the bunker, in the bush, whatever, has only aided in my golf career.' Mickelson nears the end After he shocked the golf world four years ago by winning the PGA Championship at age 50, Phil Mickelson had a moment of honest self-assessment. 'It's very possible that this is the last tournament I ever win. Like if I'm being realistic,' Mickelson said on that triumphant Sunday at Kiawah Island. Mickelson hasn't won since, and while he wasn't eager to reflect Wednesday on a career that includes six major titles and just as many famous near-misses, he indicated his competitive future is limited. He said he wants to help his teammates on LIV's HyFlyers squad and would step away if he's no longer doing that. 'I'm also going to be 55 in a couple weeks, so I want to be realistic there, too. I want this team to succeed. I don't want to hold it back,' Mickelson said. 'If I'm holding it back, then it's time for me to move on and get somebody else in here.' Mickelson also acknowledged the possibility that Oakmont will be his last U.S. Open. He has a record six runner-up finishes at the national championship, the only major he hasn't won. 'There's a high likelihood that it will be,' Mickelson said, 'but I haven't really thought about it too much.' The USGA gave Mickelson a special exemption to the 2021 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines, which he ultimately didn't need because he won at Kiawah a month earlier. Nonetheless, the U.S. Open historically does not grant more than one special exemption to any player, and Mickelson has missed the past three U.S. Open cuts. He remains exempt for the other three majors as a past champion. ___
