Cops seize drugs worth RM16m in raids on 3 Klang Valley syndicates
KUALA LUMPUR: Police crippled three drug syndicates in the Klang Valley and seized various narcotics worth RM16.01 million.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the raids were carried out by the Federal and Kuala Lumpur Narcotics Crime Investigation Departments based on intelligence and public information.
He said in the first raid on April 29, two men including a Filipino were arrested.
"A search of their car uncovered 56 packages of methamphetamine weighing 58.42kg.
"Further investigations led the police to another vehicle that contained 146.76 kg of methamphetamine, bringing the total seizure to 205 kg, valued at RM6.56 million."
He said the syndicate was believed to have received drugs from Kelantan and stored them in vehicles before distribution in the Klang Valley.
"This was believed to be their first operation here, and both suspects have been remanded for 10 days from April 30 to May 9," he said.
He added that urine tests on both suspects were negative for drugs and they had no criminal record.
In the second raid on May 5, Rusdi said a 45-year-old man was arrested with 1.86 grams of methamphetamine, which then led police to a lot in a shopping mall on Jalan Imbi that was used to store drugs.
"Police found 221kg of methamphetamine, estimated to be worth RM7.07 million."
Rusdi added that the suspect had a record of five previous offences and tested positive for methamphetamine. The man has been remanded for six days from May 6 to 11.
In the third raid on May 6, Rusdi said two men aged 33 and 23 were arrested at a condominium in Taman Mastiara.
"Police found various drugs, including ecstasy powder and pills, ketamine and Erimin 5. The total weight of the seizure was 17.72kg, valued at RM2.38 million."
Rusdi said RM320,250 in cash and two vehicles were also confiscated.
"This syndicate was believed to have used the luxury condominium for drug processing and storage since January," he said.
He said the drugs seized in all three cases could supply 3.2 million addicts.
"The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
"We are also tracing the syndicates' networks and the suspects' assets under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988," he said.

Police nab two more suspects in Dataran Merdeka brawl
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested two more men to assist in investigations into a recent brawl at Dataran Merdeka. City police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the suspects, aged 21 and 22, were arrested separately by the Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department Anti-Vice, Secret Societies and Gambling (D7) Unit. Both suspects have been remanded to facilitate further investigations. On June 3, five men were remanded for two days in connection with a viral video of a fight in Dataran Merdeka. Dang Wangi district police chief Assistant Commissioner Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman said the suspects, aged between 17 and 23, were detained following an investigation under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting with weapons.

13 Asian nationals detained over illegal homestay rental syndicate
KUALA LUMPUR: The Immigration Department detained 13 Asian nationals during a raid on a syndicate running unauthorised homestay rentals at two locations in the city, near Jalan Ipoh and Jalan Sultan Ismail. The operation, carried out by the Intelligence and Special Operations Division on Tuesday, followed two weeks of surveillance and public tip-offs regarding suspicious activities involving foreigners. Immigration deputy director-general (management) Ismail Mokhtar said those arrested comprised nine Bangladeshi men and one Bangladeshi woman, an Indonesian man, an Indian woman, and a Filipino woman, aged between 24 and 40. "Investigations revealed they had been running an online homestay rental business for over a year by leasing residential units from local owners and re-renting them to customers via digital platforms. The rental rates offered ranged from RM80 to RM400 per night, depending on the room size and location," he said in a statement yesterday. Six of those detained held Temporary Employment Visit Passes for work in the construction and cleaning sectors, while the rest did not have valid travel documents or passes. Items seized during the raid included copies of rental agreements, passports, 48 building access cards, a laptop, three mobile phones, guest information forms, and cash totalling RM74,000 and US$2,160. All suspects are currently being held at the Immigration Headquarters in Putrajaya for further investigation.
