WeChat used in Johor drug network, RM1.23mil in seizures

JOHOR BARU: A WeChat-based drug trafficking syndicate operating from gated residences in Johor was dismantled following a two-day special operation by the state Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) on May 20 and 21. Johor police chief Datuk M. Kumar said the first raid at 3.30pm led to the arrest of a 32-year-old man and a 29-year-old Vietnamese woman inside a Nissan X-Trail at the lobby of a guarded apartment along Jalan Skudai Lama. Police found packets of drugs, including syabu, ketamine, and Erimin 5 pills, in the vehicle. The male suspect, who has a criminal record, had rented the apartment unit. A follow-up raid at a guarded terrace house in the district resulted in the arrest of five more suspects — four men and a Myanmar woman — aged between 29 and 54. He said the second location was used as a drug storage hub, with police seizing over RM1.23 million worth of narcotics, including 7.08kg of ecstasy powder, 1.37kg of heroin, 139g of ketamine, 123g of syabu, and 127 Erimin 5 pills. Police also confiscated three vehicles, two motorcycles, RM9,320 in cash, and jewellery worth RM32,453.20. "The syndicate, active since January, used WeChat to coordinate transactions with long-time clients. "Buyers and suppliers would use the app to agree on drop-off points, where drugs and cash were exchanged anonymously. The locations changed constantly and were only shared with trusted contacts," Kumar said at a press conference today. All seven suspects have been remanded until June 2. The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. The Myanmar woman is also being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for lacking valid travel documents. In a separate operation in Pontian on May 21, police arrested a 35-year-old man suspected of drug distribution. The man, who tested positive for methamphetamine, was caught at a rented terrace house at 6pm. Police seized 6.4kg of ecstasy powder, 5.66g of ketamine, 20.04g of syabu, 76 ecstasy pills, and eight yaba pills worth RM1.07 million — enough for an estimated 21,559 addicts. Police also seized RM600 from the suspect, who has been remanded until June 2. Investigations are underway to track down other members of the syndicate.

S'porean man and wife nabbed in Malaysia for peddling drug-laced vape liquids to schoolkids

The police have arrested a 41-year-old Singaporean man and his Malaysian wife, 38, at their rented house in Jasin Bestari, Melaka, for allegedly distributing drug-laced vape fluid to schoolchildren. Melaka police chief Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the couple, who tied the knot three months ago, were apprehended at 11am on May 26 by a team from the Jasin district narcotics investigation unit. "Preliminary investigations indicate that the couple had been actively distributing various types of drugs in the form of vape liquids, pills and powders across the state over the past three months," he told a press conference at state police headquarters in Bukit Beruang on May 27. The Deputy Commissioner, Mr Dzulkhairi, said his men seized 127.5ml of ketamine believed to be intended for use in vape devices, 212 ecstasy pills, 212 Erimin 5 pills, 13.7g of methamphetamine, 10g of cannabis and 80g of ketamine powder - enough for 786 drug abusers. "We also confiscated a car and a motorcycle belonging to the couple," he said. "The total value of the seized items and assets is estimated at RM32,650 (S$9,900)," he said, adding that both suspects tested positive for methamphetamine during screening. "The drugs were believed to have been marketed through social media and close personal contacts," Mr Dzulkhairi said. "The couple has been remanded for seven days to assist investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952." THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK

Cops seize drugs worth RM16m in raids on 3 Klang Valley syndicates

KUALA LUMPUR: Police crippled three drug syndicates in the Klang Valley and seized various narcotics worth RM16.01 million. Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the raids were carried out by the Federal and Kuala Lumpur Narcotics Crime Investigation Departments based on intelligence and public information. He said in the first raid on April 29, two men including a Filipino were arrested. "A search of their car uncovered 56 packages of methamphetamine weighing 58.42kg. "Further investigations led the police to another vehicle that contained 146.76 kg of methamphetamine, bringing the total seizure to 205 kg, valued at RM6.56 million." He said the syndicate was believed to have received drugs from Kelantan and stored them in vehicles before distribution in the Klang Valley. "This was believed to be their first operation here, and both suspects have been remanded for 10 days from April 30 to May 9," he said. He added that urine tests on both suspects were negative for drugs and they had no criminal record. In the second raid on May 5, Rusdi said a 45-year-old man was arrested with 1.86 grams of methamphetamine, which then led police to a lot in a shopping mall on Jalan Imbi that was used to store drugs. "Police found 221kg of methamphetamine, estimated to be worth RM7.07 million." Rusdi added that the suspect had a record of five previous offences and tested positive for methamphetamine. The man has been remanded for six days from May 6 to 11. In the third raid on May 6, Rusdi said two men aged 33 and 23 were arrested at a condominium in Taman Mastiara. "Police found various drugs, including ecstasy powder and pills, ketamine and Erimin 5. The total weight of the seizure was 17.72kg, valued at RM2.38 million." Rusdi said RM320,250 in cash and two vehicles were also confiscated. "This syndicate was believed to have used the luxury condominium for drug processing and storage since January," he said. He said the drugs seized in all three cases could supply 3.2 million addicts. "The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act. "We are also tracing the syndicates' networks and the suspects' assets under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988," he said.
