Hollywood couple shattered after learning they can't move to Ireland permanently

Metro2 days ago

A famous Hollywood couple have had their dreams of living in the Republic of Ireland dashed after finding out they can't move there permanently.
Sarah Jessica Parker, 60, and her husband Matthew Broderick, 63, tied the knot in 1997 – Ferris Bueller star Matthew has Irish heritage on his father's side.
The couple have a holiday home in Kilcar, which is a cosy coastal village situated just a few miles away from the north west town of Donegal.
Sarah and Matthew had apparently been hoping to move there after spending numerous summers and Christmases on the west Irish coast.
However, the pair have sadly discovered that they won't get their dream move after all, since they don't qualify for permanent residency status in Ireland.
Speaking about working with Rosie O'Donnell – whose father was Irish and has recently moved to Ireland – Sarah said she was 'not in the same position' as the 63-year-old talk show host.
'[Me and Rosie] are not in the same position,' she told Irish publication the Sunday Independent, admitting that their hopes of moving over the Atlantic hadn't worked out.
'We do feel enormously privileged to be able to visit the country as much as possible. Our kids' school schedule and our own work schedule has allowed us to be in Ireland a lot.
'So we've given up on the idea of being able to call ourselves Irish citizens. But it doesn't matter because it doesn't affect our love of the country and our time spent there.'
Rosie moved to Ireland earlier in 2025 with her 12-year-old child Clay after Donald Trump was elected as US President for the second time.
Speaking to Variety, she said: 'Never, for one moment since I arrived here, did I regret my choice. People have been so welcoming, so accepting, and they have a different view of celebrity in the culture here.
'People are much more friendly and intimate with each other in a real way. Every time I go into the pharmacy I fall in love, because the pharmacist talks to you. Have you ever spoken to a pharmacist at CVS?'
While Sarah and Matthew have spent a considerable amount of time in Ireland as a couple, Matthew spent many summers there as a child. More Trending
In 2015, the Sex and the City actress told The Irish Independent that Ireland 'feels like home' to the couple whenever they take a break from their West Village house in New York City.
'It always feels like it's a place that is perhaps foolishly more private to us, and there's a simplicity to the time that we spend there, and the people are so lovely.
'At this point it feels a little bit like home, in some way. We would be delighted to decamp to Ireland. Move the children, put them in school there, have tea every day, a proper fry.'
The couple revealed that their three children – James, 22, and twins Marion and Tabitha, 15 – have always asked to return to Ireland whenever they're at home in the United States.

Chris Pratt and Nick Offerman mourn death of 'Parks and Recreation' castmate Jonathan Joss

Chris Pratt and Nick Offerman paid tribute to their "Parks and Recreation" castmate Jonathan Joss following the actor's death this week. Joss was fatally shot in front of his San Antonio, Texas, home on Sunday by one of his neighbors, police said. He was 59. The actor had a recurring role as Chief Ken Hotate in the hit NBC sitcom. "Damn. RIP Jonathan. Always such a kind dude," Pratt, who had his breakthrough role as Andy Dwyer in the series, wrote on his Instagram story on Monday. "Sad to see. Prayers up. Hug your loved ones." Offerman, who starred in "Parks and Recreation" as Ron Swanson, told People magazine on Tuesday that he and other co-stars have been in contact since Joss' death. "The cast has been texting together about it all day and we're just heartbroken," Offerman said. "Jonathan was such a sweet guy and we loved having him as our Chief Ken Hotate. A terrible tragedy." "Sex and the City" star Cynthia Nixon, who was not on the sitcom, also paid her respects to Joss. She shared an image of the late actor on Instagram on Tuesday. "Was devastated to learn of the killing last night of the wonderfully talented actor and musician Jonathan Joss, who my family and I enjoyed so much in Parks and Recreation," she wrote. Nixon also repeated claims by Joss' husband that the actor was targeted because of his sexuality. "We will not let this stand," she said. The San Antonio Police Department said in a statement on Monday there was "no evidence" that Joss' killing was motivated by hate, but said the suspect would be charged accordingly "should any new evidence come to light." Conversations with Joss' neighbors and several police reports of prior incidents between Joss and the man arrested for his killing — Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja — paint a complicated picture of what led to the fatal shooting. Joss and Ceja were in a heated back and forth for years that was being mediated by a police crime prevention unit, according to police records and statements shared with NBC News. Ceja could not be reached for comment. The 56-year-old does not have a lawyer, according to the Bexar County District Clerk's Office. In addition to his role on "Parks and Recreation," Joss was also known for his role as John Redcorn in Fox's animated sitcom 'King of the Hill.' The animated series was rebooted and will premiere on Hulu in August, with Joss returning as Redcorn

Sabrina Carpenter fans convinced she's taking aim at ex Barry Keoghan in new song

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Fans are certain that Sabrina Carpenter wrote a Taylor Swift-level savage song about her ex Barry Keoghan. The pop diva, 26, announced her new single – titled Manchild – on Tuesday evening via an Instagram post. Highly anticipated by fans of Sabrina Carpenter and messy situationships alike, the song is set to drop on Thursday. The singer shared a vintage-looking teaser video – in which she can be seen wearing daisy dukes, platform shoes, and a tied-up white shirt – hinting at the new song. She captioned the post: 'This one's about you!!' along with details about the song's release. Fans were quick to speculate that the new song is about Barry Keoghan, who Sabrina started dating in December 2023 before breaking up around a year later. Rumours of infidelity and hard partying swirled around the Irish actor in the wake of the split, though nothing was ever confirmed. One fan commented on the post: 'And we know who you are talking about diva'. The official account for the dating app grindr wrote: 'We all thought of him didn't we'. Another added: 'DRAG HIM BABE WE CAN'T WAIT.' One fan chimed in: 'You better clock that Barry!' The pair's much-discussed relationship included music videos, countless break-up rumours, and several social media interactions – and it seems fans are still getting new content even nearly a year later. The pair broke the internet when Barry starred in Sabrina's music video for Please Please Please as the love interest, something she later used against him in an on-stage dig. Performing in Barry's hometown of Dublin, Ireland, back in March, Sabrina spoke to the crowd at Dublin's 3Arena, saying that Irish boys are 'hard work,' drawing a knowing laugh from the crowd. More Trending The dig came before the pop star launched into Please Please Please, which is also widely believed to have been written about her relationship with Barry. One source previously claimed to The Sun that Sabrina and Barry broke up because she was 'fed up' with Barry's behaviour when drunk. Later, unconfirmed rumours that Barry may have been unfaithful to Sabrina were rampant, with the actor going online in December 2024 to plead with disgruntled fans to stop 'showing up at his Granny's door.' Now, it seems – much to the delight of fans – that the drama is still not over, and Sabrina will make sure she gets the last word. Got a story?
