Four charged after B.C. police uncover arsenal of guns, 20,000 rounds of ammunition
Police in Victoria say two men and two women have been charged after the seizure of an arsenal of assault-style weapons, thousands of rounds of ammunition and 4.5 kilograms of cocaine.
Police say officers began a covert investigation of a suspected drug trafficker nearly a year ago and obtained a search warrant for a home in Langford, B.C.
A search was conducted in June of last year, and police say one man was arrested as they seized the cocaine and 20 firearms, along with more than 20,000 rounds of ammunition, body armour and $27,000 in cash.
Federal Crown counsel approved charges against the four people earlier this month, including for the man who was arrested last June.
Police say he was charged with possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition, two counts of careless storage of a firearm, one count of unauthorized possession of a prohibited device, and one count of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
The other three face cocaine trafficking charges.

Smith was speaking at the opening of a new provincial drug recovery centre in Calgary. Her remarks came a day after Ford blasted Ontario police for arresting the trespassing victim, lamenting that 'something is broken' in Canada's criminal justice system. The alleged intruder was already wanted by police for multiple unrelated offenses, including breach of probation, when he broke into the man's home in the early hours of Monday morning, according to court filings. Police arrived at the scene to find the intruder with serious, life-threatening injuries arising from an altercation with the resident, who now faces aggravated assault and weapons charges. Smith said the incident reflected a lingering Canada-wide problem with criminal recidivism, touching on every province and territory. 'We all have had instances where somebody has been released on their own recognizance and then been repeat offenders … so we know that this is a problem that needs to be solved through (federal) legislation,' she said. Smith said she hopes tough on crime legislation will be high on the agenda when Parliament resumes next month. The Alberta premier wasn't the only out-of-province politician to speak out on the incident. Man charged in alleged kidnapping in Airdrie has prior child porn convictions
Investigators believe a Calgary man accused of kidnapping a 12-year-old boy picked him up near the Cooper's Crossing neighbourhood in Airdrie on Monday evening. A Calgary man accused of kidnapping a 12-year-old boy in Airdrie had twice been convicted of child pornography-related offences, court documents show. Zain Alnoor Merchant, 37, is facing nine charges after RCMP say a child escaped an abduction when a group of teens arranged to meet the man in a To Catch a Predator-style scheme. ADVERTISEMENT Merchant's most recent charges include kidnapping, forcible confinement, sexual contact with a child and three counts of failing to comply with a prohibition order. According to investigators, the teens and the man exchanged messages over Snapchat before meeting in person near the Coopers Crossing neighbourhood in Airdrie on Monday evening. 'The investigation has revealed that there are numerous youth — ages 12, 13, so quite young — that have been involved in a 'catch the predators' scheme. So apparently this is a new scheme on social media,' said Cpl. Gina Slaney with Alberta RCMP. The boy willingly got into the man's vehicle, police say, and the man drive off with the teen still inside. The boy was able to escape when the vehicle stopped at a red light a short time later. Multiple teens and other witnesses phoned 911 and the man was later arrested in northeast Calgary. In my service time of 23 years, I haven't been involved in a similar investigation where we have somebody setting up To Catch a Predator or anything along those lines,' Cpl. Christopher Hrynyk of the Airdrie RCMP said Wednesday. 'This is a very unique incident,' he added. The Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit confirmed the accused had previously been the subject of multiple of investigations. Previous convictions Court documents obtained by CTV News show Merchant was first charged with possession of child pornography in May of 2021. He was convicted and sentenced to two years in prison in March of 2022. Documents also show Merchant was sentenced to 11 months in jail in September of 2023 for accessing child pornography. Part of his previous sentencing includes orders prohibiting Merchant from communicating with anyone under the age of 16 without parental supervision, which he is accused of breaching. Duty counsel appeared briefly in Airdrie court on Thursday afternoon on Merchant's behalf. He remains in custody.

Amber Alert cancelled after baby found safe in Brampton, suspect still outstanding

A Peel police spokesperson said they were called to the area of Bartley Bull Parkway and Hurontario Street, north of Steeles Avenue, around 3:15 p.m. They added that it's not a case of parental abduction but did not elaborate further than saying it's family-oriented.
