Google recently revamped its plans by upgrading its data allotments and a few other changes, including adding a new Essential plan to the mix. I already wrote about how the new changes make Google Fi more competitive than ever. While the new plan was already highly affordable at just $35 a month for one line (or less for multi-line accounts), what if you could get Fi for an additional 50% off? For a limited time, Google Fi is offering its service at half price for the next 18 months.
As you'd expect, there are a few limitations and qualifications here: You must be a new customer or have been without service for more than 180 days.
You must activate the line within 30 days of redeeming the promotion, and it will expire 18 months after redemption.
You must sign up for and stay on either the Unlimited Essentials or the Unlimited Standard plan.
You must bring your own device, and if you elect to upgrade, you'll have to pay full price for any new devices.
While Google previously offered a very similar deal during the holiday 2024 season, this is the first time they've ran this promo in 2025. The offer expires on June 5, so we recommend acting sooner rather than later. Although it's possible Google could offer this promotion again around the holidays, there's certainly no guarantee here.
As for how much you'll play exactly with the discount activated? Essentials starts at $17.50 a month for one line, or as low as $11.50 per month for four lines or more.
Standard starts at $25 a month for one line, or as low as $12.50 per month for four lines or more.
This is exceptionally cheap for a service that has similar priority to T-Mobile's mid-range or higher plans. In fact, Google Fi is my number one recommendation for those looking for service on T-Mobile's network. Yes, I rate it above T-Mobile's postpaid service. There are several reasons why I recommend it over postpaid service, including its high priority access, its excellent international features, its solid phone promotions, and the incredible value on offer.

Google Photos Just Got A Huge AI-Powered Upgrade And Easier Sharing
Google Photos has just turned ten years old, and the company is marking the occasion with a raft of powerful new features. New AI-powered editor: Perhaps the most significant upgrade is Google's new editor, which brings together a range of AI-powered functions, some of which were previously available only to Pixel 9-series owners. These include Auto Frame, which presents different ways to crop your photos, automatically using generative fill where necessary to extend the image to fit the required shape, and Reimagine, which lets you add creative new elements to your pictures by describing them with text prompts. Additionally, a new AI Enhance feature provides a one-tap AI-powered edit that deploys multiple tools to generate three new versions of your image, from which you can then select your favorite. The editor's user interface has also undergone a radical redesign, which may take a little getting used to, but is designed to make editing more intuitive by suggesting the best edits for you. Draw around an object to select it, and Google Photos will automatically display the tools most relevant to your selection. The new Google Photos editor will start rolling out in June for Android 8 and higher, with iOS support following later this year. Share albums with QR codes: Google is making it easier to create shared albums by generating shareable QR codes that anyone can scan to join. Google suggests printing them out to share at events, so that anyone present can view or add photos to your group album simply by scanning the QR code. This addition reduces the effort required to share albums, as there is no longer a need to send links or invitations to multiple recipients manually. The new QR code album sharing feature has now started rolling out. I can already see it in my Google Photos Android app, but not so far via on the Web. The feature also works for Google's automatically generated Moments, which can now be shared in precisely the same way. You can see the feature in action in this Android Authority video, where it was discovered last month prior to its release. The origins of Google Photos can be traced back much farther than ten years, starting with Picasa Web Albums in 2006 (the eagle-eyed among you might spot the Picasa logo rolling across the screen in Google's promotional video below). Google then migrated its online photo service to Google+ Photos in 2011 before the birth of Google Photos in 2015, which tempted new users to sign up by offering unlimited free High-Quality photo storage — until Google eventually rescinded this offer in 2021. ‘Fantastic Voyage': David S. Goyer On Hopes He And Guillermo Del Toro Can Complete Remake Of Sci-Fi Classic

Goyer is hoping he and Guillermo del Toro can still find a way to embark on their long-gestating remake of the 1966 sci-fi classic Fantastic Voyage. Goyer, of course, collaborated with director Christopher Nolan as a screenwriter on The Dark Knight Trilogy and is currently executive producing Apple TV+'s Murderbot. Goyer first teamed with del Toro in 2002 on the Wesley Snipes Marvel movie Blade II, which he co-wrote and del Toro directed. Starring Raquel Welch, Stephen Boyd, Edmund O'Brien and Donald Pleasence, Fantastic Voyage follows a crew of five scientists who are miniaturized in a submarine and injected into the bloodstream of an ailing colleague in a desperate bid to prevent his death. The Fantastic Voyage remake was to be directed by del Toro from a script by Goyer and produced in collaboration with James Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment. 'Guillermo's a good friend. We've worked on about five or six projects together,' Goyer said in a recent Zoom conversation. 'We were in prep on Fantastic Voyage and it was very close. A production designer was on and all of the above. "While we were in prep for that, Guillermo said, 'I've got this deal with Searchlight' and 'Do you have any scripts that could be made for $20 million?' and I gave him a script called Antlers that we produced together,' Goyer added. Caulfield/WireImage) While Antlers — a horror thriller directed by Scott Cooper that starred Keri Russell and Jesse Plemons — was released in 2021, Fantastic Voyage remained in development. The film was put on pause in 2017, Deadline reported. 'Fantastic Voyage got derailed with the-then regime at Fox, but God, it was a good one,' Goyer added. 'It was such a great experience working with Guillermo and James Cameron on that, and then my experience working on that led to my working on Terminator: Dark Fate with Cameron and we got along great.' While it has been eight years since Fantastic Voyage began treading water, Goyer said he isn't giving up hope on the film just yet. 'I've known Guillermo forever. I hope one day we can figure out [how to get Fantastic Four made],' Goyer said. 'In fact, now, my friend Steve Asbell is running [20th Century Studios], so it occurs to me that I should call him up and say, 'Hey, maybe we should try to resurrect this.' "I also have a Star Wars script I wrote with Guillermo that hasn't been made, so there are definitely a few ones that have gotten away,' Goyer added. While David S. Goyer has yet to complete Fantastic Voyage with Guillermo del Toro, the duo has had the good fortune to collaborate on other projects including the 2022 Netflix horror anthology series Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities. When the series — which was initially known as Guillermo del Toro's 10 After Midnight (via Deadline) — got the green light at Netflix, the director reached out to Goyer to write a script for one of the eight short stories he was going to produce for the series. 'He said I'm doing this 10 After Midnight thing at Netflix and I've optioned X amount of short stories and I had read them all,' Goyer recalled. 'Guillermo said, 'You get first pick if you want to do one. Since I had always loved The Autopsy and the author [Michael Shea], I wrote that.' Then, Goyer, added, he experienced something that's never happened to him in all of his years as a writer. 'I adapted the story and sent Guillermo the script and he said, 'I love it. No notes.' It went into Netflix, and no notes,' Goyer enthused. 'It was the first time in my life that it ever happened. It was just like, 'Boom!' It was just a completely painless experience.' Goyer is currently executive producing the new Apple TV+ sci-fi action comedy Murderbot, which is based on Martha Wells' best-selling The Murderbot Diaries book series. In addition, Season 3 of Goyer's sci-fi series Foundation debuts on Apple TV+ on July 11, while his Netflix fantasy series The Sandman returns for its second and final film season with six episodes on July 3 and six episodes on July 24. Meanwhile, del Toro is readying his version of the Mary Shelley horror classic, Frankenstein, for release on Netflix sometime in November.

Google quietly released an app that lets you download and run AI models locally
Last week, Google quietly released an app that lets users run a range of openly available AI models from the AI dev platform Hugging Face on their phones. Called Google AI Edge Gallery, the app is available for Android and will soon come to iOS. It allows users to find, download, and run compatible models that generate images, answer questions, write and edit code, and more. The models run offline, without needing an internet connection, tapping into supported phones' processors. AI models running in the cloud are often more powerful than their local counterparts, but they also have their downsides. Some users might be wary of sending personal or sensitive data to a remote data center, or want to have models available without needing to find a Wi-Fi or cellular connection. Google AI Edge Gallery, which Google is calling an "experimental Alpha release," can be downloaded from GitHub by following these instructions. The home screen shows shortcuts to AI tasks and capabilities like "Ask Image" and "AI Chat." Tapping on a capability pulls up a list of models suited for the task, such as Google's Gemma 3n. Google AI Edge Gallery also provides a "Prompt Lab" users can use to kick off "single-turn" tasks powered by models, like summarizing and rewriting text. The Prompt Lab comes with several task templates and configurable settings to fine-tune the models' behaviors. Your mileage may vary in terms of performance, Google warns. Modern devices with more powerful hardware will predictably run models faster, but the model size also matters. Larger models will take more time to complete a task — say, answering a question about an image — than smaller models. Google's inviting members of the developer community to give feedback on the Google AI Edge Gallery experience.
