Right now you can get Google Fi for 50% off, or as low as $11.50 per line for four users
Edgar Cervantes / Android Authority Google recently revamped its plans by upgrading its data allotments and a few other changes, including adding a new Essential plan to the mix. I already wrote about how the new changes make Google Fi more competitive than ever. While the new plan was already highly affordable at just $35 a month for one line (or less for multi-line accounts), what if you could get Fi for an additional 50% off? For a limited time, Google Fi is offering its service at half price for the next 18 months. As you'd expect, there are a few limitations and qualifications here: You must be a new customer or have been without service for more than 180 days. You must activate the line within 30 days of redeeming the promotion, and it will expire 18 months after redemption. You must sign up for and stay on either the Unlimited Essentials or the Unlimited Standard plan. You must bring your own device, and if you elect to upgrade, you'll have to pay full price for any new devices. While Google previously offered a very similar deal during the holiday 2024 season, this is the first time they've ran this promo in 2025. The offer expires on June 5, so we recommend acting sooner rather than later. Although it's possible Google could offer this promotion again around the holidays, there's certainly no guarantee here. As for how much you'll play exactly with the discount activated? Essentials starts at $17.50 a month for one line, or as low as $11.50 per month for four lines or more. Standard starts at $25 a month for one line, or as low as $12.50 per month for four lines or more. This is exceptionally cheap for a service that has similar priority to T-Mobile's mid-range or higher plans. In fact, Google Fi is my number one recommendation for those looking for service on T-Mobile's network. Yes, I rate it above T-Mobile's postpaid service. There are several reasons why I recommend it over postpaid service, including its high priority access, its excellent international features, its solid phone promotions, and the incredible value on offer. Be sure to hit up Fi Wireless' official website to sign up for 50% off now or to learn more about Google Fi. Got a tip? Talk to us! Email our staff at Email our staff at news@ . Google Fi VPN becomes VPN by Google – what this means for you
Subscribers to Google Fi are getting a VPN rebrand, as Google Fi VPN has become VPN by Google. Google has stated the switch is a simple name change to ensure more consistent branding and will not include any technical or functional changes. VPN by Google was first seen on Pixel devices back in 2024 and we don't consider it one of the best VPNs. First reported by 9to5google on May 6, the change is now in place for all Google Fi users on Android, iOS, and Pixel devices. Owners of Pixel 7 and newer devices, and the Pixel Tablet, will now be able to use the built-in VPN by Google service. It's better integrated with the system and makes for a more seamless experience. The VPN can currently be accessed from the "Privacy & Security" tab within the Google Fi app. However this will be changing on May 22. From then on, all VPN settings will be controlled from your Pixel device settings. After toggling your VPN on/off, users will see a "manage VPN in settings" shortcut. To ensure your device and subscription continues to operate smoothly, click "Update VPN now" when prompted. VPN by Google launched in summer 2024 and was first seen as a Google Pixel 8 exclusive. It replaced Google One VPN and involved some design and functionality changes. It was subsequently extended to a wider range of devices and is currently available in 25 countries – including a range of European countries, Australia, Japan, Canada, and the U.S. But Google's privacy credentials aren't exactly glowing. Along with other big tech companies, it has questionable privacy policies and has handed over your data to western governments. In terms of features and performance, VPN by Google can't match the leading VPN providers. Plus, the provider states that "use of VPN may increase data costs depending on your plan." Despite it being a handy extra feature to your Pixel device and Google plans, we wouldn't recommend it as a reliable VPN. Our best VPN guide breaks down some of our favourite providers and no matter your needs or budget, there'll be a VPN for you. We also have guides detailing the fastest VPNs, the best cheap VPN, the best streaming VPN, the most private VPN, and the best free VPN. We test and review VPN services in the context of legal recreational uses. For example: 1. Accessing a service from another country (subject to the terms and conditions of that service). 2. Protecting your online security and strengthening your online privacy when abroad. We do not support or condone the illegal or malicious use of VPN services. Consuming pirated content that is paid-for is neither endorsed nor approved by Future Publishing.

Say goodbye to Google Fi VPN and hello to VPN by Google
Google Fi offers a variety of perks for being a member, including access to the company's VPN. If you commonly use this VPN, get ready for a few changes to come your way. As you may be aware, the VPN offered by the Google-owned MVNO is called 'Google Fi VPN.' At the same time, the Pixel 7 and up feature a built-in VPN experience known as ' VPN by Google .' According to 9to5Google , Google Fi is renaming its VPN to 'VPN by Google' to make branding more consistent. While the name is changing, it appears the service itself is staying the same, with no technical or functional changes for most Android or iOS users. For Fi subscribers who own a Pixel 7 or newer, you'll now simply use the built-in VPN. This built-in VPN is better integrated with the system, making it a more seamless experience. Meanwhile, subscribers with other handsets will continue with the service they're already using. One change that is coming is how you access VPN controls. Currently, you can go to Privacy & security in the Fi app to toggle the feature on or off. However, these controls will soon move to the Settings app. A message on the Privacy & security page reads: VPN controls are moving: Beginning May 22, VPN controls are moving to Settings. To make sure your online activity is protected, turn on VPN by Google now. If you tap on the 'Update VPN now' button in the message, the controls will be relocated to Settings. In place of the toggle, you'll now see a shortcut that will take you to where you can manage the feature.

Switched to Google Fi Essentials but can't change your Google One plan? You're not alone
Edgar Cervantes / Android Authority TL;DR Some users have noticed that there seems to be no way to change Google One or add a billing method after switching to Google Fi Essentials from an older plan that included Google One for free. The good news is that the problem resolves itself in about a week after Google Fi releases its connection to Google One, and it will be downgraded to a free plan once the process finishes. You'll get an alert that Google One has expired and a grace period to renew without losing your existing stored items. If you recently switched to the new Google Fi Essentials plan, you probably already knew that Google One would no longer be included. For many users, the savings are worth losing the feature, but what if you want to keep Google One and pay for it yourself? Several users on Reddit, including Waitin4Godot, have run into this exact issue. Unfortunately, if you switched from a plan that included Google One for free, you'll notice there's no way to upgrade, add a payment method, or change anything from the included Basic plan. Any attempts result in a 403 error. The good news? This isn't a real problem — it's just part of the switch-over process. While Google could have communicated this more clearly via email or text alerts, it typically takes about a week after switching to Google Fi Essentials for your account to fully downgrade and for Google One to be released. You'll eventually get an email confirming the expiration, at which point you'll be able to resubscribe immediately. If you're worried about losing files due to being over the free storage limit, don't be. I can personally confirm that Google One offers a grace period in these cases, giving you time to renew without losing access to your data. I certainly wouldn't wait around too long, though. Google Fi Launches $35 Unlimited Essentials Plan with More Data Perks
Google Fi is rolling out a new budget-friendly option called the Unlimited Essentials plan, priced at just $35 per month for a single line. This new entry-level plan includes unlimited talk, text, and data, with up to 30GB of high-speed data before speeds are reduced—making it the most affordable unlimited offering in Google Fi's lineup. Alongside this launch, Google Fi is also refreshing its existing plans with more value and new names. The Simply Unlimited plan is now called Unlimited Standard, and while it still costs $50 a month, it now includes up to 50GB of high-speed data—up from the previous 35GB. Hotspot tethering has also received a boost, increasing from 5GB to 25GB of high-speed data. Meanwhile, the top-tier Unlimited Plus plan is being renamed Unlimited Premium. This plan still costs $65 per month for one line, but now offers double the high-speed data—100GB instead of 50GB. However, there's a trade-off: it no longer supports unlimited high-speed hotspot tethering and is now capped at 50GB. Another big upgrade includes better support for secondary devices. Google Fi now allows users to connect tablets or laptops using a data-only eSIM, which many newer devices like Apple's latest iPads already support. Previously, users had to rely on physical SIM cards. You can add a device by visiting tapping Manage plan, then Connect your tablet, and scanning a QR code, 'at no extra cost.' Other improvements include expanded international 5G access, now covering over 92 countries for those on the Unlimited Premium and Flexible plans. Additionally, both iPhone and Android users will soon be able to listen to voicemails directly from the Phone app instead of using the Fi app, with that update rolling out 'in the coming weeks.'
