TV star allegedly visited chopper crash pilot in hospital to 'delete a few things' from his phone: Pilot speaks out in court about Outback Wrangler
Outback Wrangler co-star Chris 'Willow' died in the February 2022 accident, falling to the ground from a sling beneath the chopper while collecting crocodile eggs in remote swampland in the Northern Territory.
The aircraft then crashed, seriously injuring pilot Sebastian Robinson. Now a paraplegic, he gave evidence at the Supreme Court in Darwin by video link from his wheelchair on Wednesday.
Wright is on trial on three charges of attempting to pervert the course of justice, having pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutors allege he was worried crash investigators would discover that flight-time meters were disconnected regularly to extend flying hours beyond official thresholds and that paperwork was falsified.
Mr Robinson told the court Wright visited him in Royal Brisbane Hospital 10 days after the crash when he was still in very bad shape, heavily sedated with 'tubes coming out of me everywhere'.
Crown prosecutor Jason Gullaci SC asked the 32-year-old what Wright had asked of him at his hospital bedside and he replied 'to manipulate hours on my aircraft'.
'He asked if I would consider putting any of his hours, from his helicopter, onto my helicopter.'
The court was told Mr Robinson was being asked to put egg-collecting hours flown on Wright's crashed helicopter onto his own helicopter, which was not fitted with equipment for egg collecting.
Mr Robinson said he told Wright he would think about his request and when he made a return visit the next day told him 'I didn't feel comfortable doing it'.
Wright had also asked to go through his phone and 'delete a few things', Mr Robinson said.
At the time he was 'scared and panicked' and didn't know who to trust, he said.
The crash and his life-changing injuries had been 'the hardest thing I've ever had to deal with in my life'.
The court was told Mr Robinson was asked to fly egg-collecting missions in Arnhem Land, where COVID restrictions were in place, because Wright was an anti-vaxxer so could not enter the Indigenous territory unvaccinated.
Jurors heard that Wright visited Mr Robinson in hospital despite requirements to show a COVID vaccination certificate and having to complete a test for the virus.
The charges against Wright do not relate to the cause of the accident and the prosecution does not allege he is responsible for either the crash, Mr Wilson's death or Mr Robinson's injuries.
The trial continues.

After the woman was spotted at Latham's side at a racing event, she claimed Ms Matthews took to social media to question why a man with a 'beautiful young girlfriend' would choose to 'date an old wrinkly one'. On a separate occasion, she said Ms Matthews discovered a picture of Latham at the races alongside an 'unidentified blonde' and followed up with a post to Instagram with a caption along the lines of '#upgradeblonde'. The woman, who is married, told the Daily Mail that she was stunned to learn Ms Matthews, with whom she had never spoken, held any ill feelings towards her. . Behind the scenes, she was told Ms Matthew's had gone 'absolutely wild', demanding Latham name the mystery woman he had been spotted with at the races. 'Apparently, she went on and on and then he told her and she looked me up on social media and she then had my name in her head,' she said. 'She had it in for me and I don't know why... I was no threat to her, but she obviously thought I was.' Ms Matthews is seeking an AVO against Latham after alleging he inflicted a 'sustained pattern' of psychological, financial and emotional abuse against her. The former federal Labor leader has denied all abuse claims made by Ms Matthews, alleging the pair's relationship was consensual. The woman claimed Ms Matthews' ire only grew when she went through Latham's phone and found some innocent pictures of the pair attending lunch together. 'I think she blew it out of proportion. I don't know if he made it out that I was more of a threat than I was, I don't know,' she said. The unnamed woman recalled meeting Latham at a racing event in August last year and, after learning who he was, became 'star-struck'. She said the politician was 'quite persistent' in getting her number and she soon began attending regular lunches with him over the next few months. 'Look, I did go to the Fullerton (hotel) but it wasn't what it seems... And there was certainly no defecating either,' she added. Among the accusations levelled against Latham in her AVO application to the NSW Local Court, Ms Matthews alleged he defecated on her before sex and refused to let her wash. In his affidavit, Latham accepted he did perform the vile sex act on Ms Matthews on one occasion but said he only did it 'because it turned her on'. The second woman said her relationship with Latham was a 'confidante kind of companionship', adding the pair would often discuss Latham's frustrations with Ms Matthews, whose work often took her abroad. 'I could see there were a lot of problems in that relationship,' she said, adding Latham would tell her 'everything'. 'He longed for a normal relationship… he said that they had an open arrangement because she had people in Dubai, and that she came and went as she pleased and he wasn't happy with that,' she said. The woman decided to cut ties with Latham a few months into their relationship after sensing she had become a pawn in a 'toxic game'. How kind-hearted locals tried to take care of man accused of gruesome double murder who allegedly killed a mum-to-be and beheaded her lover before going for a burger with his dogs
Just months before a homeless man allegedly killed a pregnant woman and decapitated her partner, he turned up at a stranger's door with one shoe on and begged for help. Ross Judd, 34, surprised the resident at a home in Oakleigh, in Melbourne 's south-east, when he asked the woman to care for his two dogs while he went into hospital last December. She said at the time that she thought the whole thing was 'very strange' and had contacted police before posting in a local Facebook group. Judd is accused of killing pregnant Athena Georgopoulos, 39, and decapitating her partner Andrew Gunn, 50, before placing his head on a spike at Gunn's home in Melbourne's Mount Waverley. However, her well-meaning post sparked a fierce online debate, with many defending Judd, saying he was deeply devoted to his dogs and needed their support. One woman said she even invited him in for a hot chocolate. 'His dogs are gentle and harmless,' she wrote. 'Is he still in the area? I will look after his dogs.' Others vowed to help in the lead up to Christmas by 'dropping supplies off for him', while a local dog groomer offered to wash and clip both German shepherds for free. 'The gentleman's name is Ross and he has been living rough for about a year and a half,' said one woman, in a now-deleted post. 'He has schizophrenia which is currently trying to be managed, he has a prescription to fill when he gets his payment on Thursday. 'I asked if perhaps we could go together and get it tomorrow instead but he didn't want to. 'He is working with the Salvos trying to find accommodation which is obviously difficult with the two dogs.' She said Judd got the dogs when he had a job and a home, and urged locals to 'be kind and supportive'. She suggested her neighbours should introduce themselves to him 'and have a cuddle with the dogs'. 'It will make them all feel seen,' she added. The bodies of Ms Georgopoulos and Mr Gunn were discovered by a neighbour at the home on Adrienne Crescent just before 10pm on Monday. Judd was arrested on in the early hours of Tuesday morning at Westall train station with his two German shepherds by his side. Just a few hours earlier, shortly after 11pm, diners claimed to have seen a man matching his description walk into a McDonald's on Dandenong Rd in Clayton with the dogs, who waited patiently at the door. Police are investigating if Judd and Mr Gunn had been involved in a dispute over the ownership and sale of the dogs in the lead up to the alleged murders. Friends of Mr Gunn said he was often seen with his own beloved German shepherd, Dragon. A neighbour of the couple, who claimed to have heard arguing and barking dogs on the night of the alleged murders, spoke out on Wednesday. 'No one should have to come across what I saw down there,' said Ben Scott-Sandvik, who lives at the front unit in the block where the alleged double murders took place. He told the Daily Mail: 'I'm doing ok, but I think Athena's family is doing a lot worse. 'Nobody needs to live knowing that this sort of thing has happened to their families.' Judd appeared at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, winking after he tripped as he walked to the dock. He then smiled throughout the brief filing hearing over the two counts of murder. The prosecution asked the court for a ten-week extension because 'it's a complex crime scene with significant amounts of DNA evidence'. The prosecutor also said autopsies were expected to be delayed, as alleged murder victim Ms Georgopoulos was five months pregnant when she died. Daily Mail has previously revealed Ms Georgopoulos was set to face a plea hearing at Ringwood Magistrates' Court on September 1 for car theft and burglary charges. The alleged killer's legal aid lawyer did not oppose the unusually lengthy period to serve the brief, but told the court it was her client's first time in custody. Judd also faces charges regarding previous allegations of making threats. The lawyer also said Judd needed to see the custody nurse for 'follow-up medication and physical health issues'. On Wednesday, Ms Georgopoulos' mother Petty paid tribute to her daughter. 'My little heart, you left life so unfairly that I still cannot believe it,' she said in the touching Facebook post. 'In recent days you were so happy - we made dreams together for our little granddaughter that you were going to bring into your life. 'And suddenly, everything was erased in one night, when an [alleged] murderer cut the thread of your life and of my little granddaughter's life that you were going to bring into the world in four months. 'No matter how much they separated us, I will never stop loving you. Forever. Until we meet again, my little girl, in the light of the angels.' Ms Georgopoulos worked as a customer service representative for several electricity and insurance companies, and had been Mr Gunn's partner for three years. The couple were found dead after police received calls from neighbours on Monday night about yelling coming from the property, and heavily armed police swarmed the Adrienne Crescent home at 9.55pm. Inside the small unit, officers allegedly found Mr Gunn's mutilated body next to the body of Ms Georgopoulos.
