Soccer fan dies after fall during Nations League final between Spain and Portugal
MUNICH (AP) — A soccer fan died during the Nations League final between Spain and Portugal on Sunday after falling from an overhead level onto a media area below.
A UEFA official, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to give details, confirmed a person sustained fatal injuries from a fall.
The incident occured while Portugal and Spain were playing the first period of extra time at the Munich stadium. Medical personnel, stewards and police cordoned off the area.
Portugal went on to win the game on penalties.
Spain coach Luis de la Fuente addressed the incident at the start of his post-game news conference.
'Before we begin with the questions, I would like to express my condolences because a fan died in the stands today,' de la Fuente said. 'My condolences to the family.'

Speculation has been rife that one of three free agent goalkeepers - Tim Krul, Fraser Forster or Freddie Woodman - could be re-signed by Newcastle to help comply with these UEFA regulations. With suitors expected to make their moves for Longstaff in the coming months, decisions must be taken by both the club and the player as to where his future lies. Eddie Howe admires the player a lot, despite his limited game time of late, while Longstaff himself appears relaxed over his situation given he has just over one year left to run on his current deal. 'Yeah, if it's here [Newcastle] it's great. If it's not, it's not,' he said earlier this season. 'I want to be valued as a player, I want to be appreciated as a player and whether it's here great. Denis Bouanga's 1 goal, 2 assists help LAFC beat Sporting KC 3-1
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Denis Bouanga had a goal and two assists, Eddie Segura scored his first goal since 2020 and Los Angeles FC extended its unbeaten streak to nine games with a 2-1 win over Sporting Kansas City on Sunday night. Bouanga converted from the penalty spot in the 59th to give LAFC (7-4-5), which had 56% possession and outshot Kansas City 21-5, a 2-1 lead. Dejan Joveljic scored a goal for the fourth consecutive game when he ran onto a through ball played ahead by Manu García, exploded into the area and scored from near the penalty spot to make it 1-0 in the 39th minute.
