Former
featherweight champion
Ilia Topuria
is gearing up well for his second title conquest within the lightweight division against
Charles Oliveira
at
UFC 317
. Since the time he vacated the featherweight title, the fighter is quite confident about achieving his next target, which is the
lightweight title
. While the preparation accordingly goes on, Topuria recently made a shocking move that has shocked the entire community and generated significant reaction from some of the prominent figures of the sport, including
Daniel Cormier
.
Daniel Cormier credits the Climent team with being the backbone of Ilia Topuria's successful UFC journey till now
With an undefeated record of 16-0, the Georgian fighter initially called out the then-lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev, for a title bout. However, there was no concrete response from the latter's team, even though time and again, Makhachev's coach and training partners stated that the Dagestani fighter is not interested in the bout. Later, Makhachev expressed his interest in moving up the weight category but was hesitant to do so because his long-time training partner, Belal Muhammad, was the then-welterweight champion.
UFC 315 changed all the dynamics after Muhammad lost to Jack Della Maddalena in the main event. With Muhammad no longer being the welterweight champion, it was convenient for Makhachev to move up the weight category, following which Ilia Topuria got his long-awaited title shot at the vacant lightweight championship against Charles Oliveira.
While this is a crucial phase of Topuria's career, as he plans to bring his pro-MMA record to 17-0, the fighter made a shocking change ahead of his bout at UFC 317. In the process of preparing for his clash against Oliveira, Topuria parted ways with his previous coaches, Jorge and
Augustin Climent

The decision has been a major shock for the community as well as the fans of the sport. A veteran figure from the sport, UFC Hall of Famer and current color commentator Daniel Cormier, also resorted to his YouTube channel while expressing his concerns for the fighter.
'Ilia Topuria wants to fight Islam Makhachev but needs to get through Charles Oliveira first, especially when we're hearing that he and his team are kind of going in separate directions.
Just because of the schedule, they said there's no bad blood.' Cormier went on to express his concern.
'I really don't know how at this point, a month before what will be your opportunity to win a second title, how much effect that will have on Team Topuria. If I'm Ilia, I'm still just using those guys,' Cormier continued. 'Because even if I have to do my training camp with someone else, I know that those guys know me so well, that if they can get with me for a week, two weeks, we're still so aligned, especially if there's no bad blood.
'
Daniel Cormier REACTS to Islam Makhachev NOT DUCKING Ilia Topuria, Tom Aspinall fed up w/ Jon Jones
Cormier credits the former team of Topuria for enabling him to receive numerous accolades 'This is the team that got Ilia from a young, young man, to being undefeated and a UFC champion. Beating the two greatest featherweights of all time! So to have that familiarity, is very important to an athlete…to me, that's a little bit odd.'

The rationale behind Topuria's sudden change in his strategy has not been explained yet. While members of the
MMA community
and fans are eagerly waiting to see how the results yield out, only time will tell who between Topuria and Oliveira shall claim the vacant lightweight title.

Aaron Judge just ended 2017 Andrew Benintendi debate with one legendary statline
Aaron Judge just ended 2017 Andrew Benintendi debate with one legendary statline (Image via Getty) Back in 2017, a comparison was made between two of the best rookie players in baseball- Andrew Benintendi of the Boston Red Sox and Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees. At that time, one well-known columnist chose Benintendi over Judge for the future. Eight years later, the numbers and career paths show a very different picture. Aaron Judge proves 2017 critics wrong with historic rise over Andrew Benintendi On August 21, 2017, a column published in The Boston Globe favored Andrew Benintendi over Aaron Judge as the better long-term pick. The writer pointed to their head-to-head matchups that season. In their first 15 games against each other, Benintendi had better results: 4 home runs and 12 RBIs, while Judge hit just .155 with 1 home run and 2 RBIs against the Red Sox. Benintendi was thought to be a powerful all-round performer at the time. During the 2018 ALCS versus the Houston Astros, he had already made a significant contribution by making a critical catch that enabled the Red Sox to win the series and afterward the World Series. Boston had Aaron Judge five seasons before he was dealt to the Kansas City Royals in February 2021. In 2022, he was subsequently chosen to be an All-Star. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Memperdagangkan CFD Emas dengan salah satu spread terendah? Alcaraz reaches French Open final, Sinner to face Djokovic
Reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz reached the French Open final as Lorenzo Musetti retired injured from their last-four tie on Friday, ahead of world number one Jannik Sinner's clash with 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic. World number two Alcaraz was leading 4-6, 7-6 (7/3), 6-0, 2-0 in the fourth set under the Court Philippe Chatrier roof when Italian Musetti called it quits due to an apparent thigh injury. "It's never great to go through or win a match when it's like this," said the 22-year-old, who has never lost a Grand Slam final. I wish him all the best, a quick recovery and that he'll be back soon." Alcaraz will aim to win his fifth Grand Slam title against either Sinner or Djokovic, who meet in the second semi-final, on Sunday. Live Events He beat Sinner in five sets in last year's semi-finals, but has lost both of his meetings with Djokovic at Roland Garros -- in the 2023 semis and last year's Paris Olympics final. "It's been three intense weeks and now I have one step to make," he said. "I'll give everything on Sunday, I've been playing great tennis this tournament." Musetti saved break points in the first and seventh games before grabbing a one-set lead with a break in the 10th game. The duo traded breaks early in the second set, before Alcaraz secured a chance to serve it out and level the match. Instead, he was broken to 15 as Musetti produced some inspired shot-making to force a tie-break. The Spaniard raced through the breaker, though, taking his third set point when Musetti fired an attempted passing shot into the net. Alcaraz continued that momentum into the third, striking quickly to open up a 2-0 lead. Musetti could not deal with the power coming from the other side of the net and briefly received treatment on his left thigh. Alcaraz went on to romp through the set, in which eighth seed Musetti mustered only five points, in just 22 minutes. Musetti surrendered another break early in the fourth set as Alcaraz thumped a forehand return into the corner, and the 23-year-old immediately headed to the net to shake his opponent's hand. - Djokovic faces Sinner test - Djokovic continues his bid for a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam title in the second semi-final against Sinner, who is looking to reach his first French Open final. Sinner has stormed into the last four without dropping a set while Djokovic impressed in a four-set win over last year's runner-up Alexander Zverev in the quarter-finals. Top seed and three-time Grand Slam winner Sinner takes on the most successful man ever to play the sport in a rivalry that connects one generation to the next. Sinner, 23, and Djokovic, 38, have split their eight meetings, but the Italian has won four of the last five matches to signal the undeniable power shift in men's tennis. Sinner is riding a 19-match winning run at Grand Slams as he chases a third successive major title, looking to go a step further at Roland Garros than last year's semi-final loss to Alcaraz in five sets. "(Djokovic) has shown now in the last period that he is back to the level," said Sinner. "It's going to be... very, very difficult. He's such an experienced player, 24 Grand Slams. I think that says everything." A week before Roland Garros, Djokovic had not won a single match on clay this year. But after capturing his 100th ATP title in Geneva and arriving at the French Open battle-tested, the Serbian has steadily hit his stride. The three-time Roland Garros champion is two wins away from a record-breaking 25th major to move him out in front of Margaret Court, but he is aware of the magnitude of the task ahead. "Jannik is in tremendous form, and he has been the best player for the last couple of years," said Djokovic. "There is no bigger occasion for me... I just hope that I will be able to physically keep up." Djokovic could become the first man to beat the world's top three players en route to a Grand Slam title after defeating third-ranked Zverev in the last eight.
