
Egypt adds automotive feeder, non-local industries to list of 28 promising sectors
Opening the meeting, Al-Wazir noted that the gathering was part of a series of consultations with industrial sector partners, which have included a broad meeting with steel manufacturers to explore mechanisms for localising automotive sheet metal production, as well as visits to multiple factories. The aim, he said, is to align national production capabilities with the technical requirements of automotive manufacturers and enhance integration within supply chains.
The meeting reviewed available capabilities and the current challenges in localising automotive components. Al-Wazir listened to the views of automotive manufacturers on their needs and priorities, which included the establishment of plastic injection moulding factories for car parts, stainless steel plants, tyre production facilities, and other feeder industries.
He instructed the Ministry of Industry to begin immediately compiling a comprehensive database identifying key demands, challenges, and opportunities for localising the automotive industry, while strengthening links between car manufacturers and potential suppliers of components not currently produced locally. He further directed that these feeder industries be added to the list of 28 promising sectors eligible for additional investment incentives.
The outcomes will be presented at the Reverse Exhibition during the Industry and Transport for Sustainable Development Expo in November 2025 — a platform designed to match import needs with local manufacturing capabilities, boost industrial integration, reduce imports, save foreign currency, and enhance competitiveness, particularly in the automotive sector.
Al-Wazir stressed the importance of coordinating the efforts of all relevant entities to achieve the goal of localising the automotive industry. This includes cooperation with the petrochemicals sector to increase the added value of locally produced plastic injection products used in vehicles, and alignment with the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality and the Industrial Control Authority to ensure compliance with the highest technical standards.
He also announced plans for field visits to automotive feeder industry producers to examine production lines, assess technical capabilities, and identify practical challenges. These visits, he said, will help devise effective solutions to support localisation plans and improve the efficiency of local supply chains.
The minister emphasised that the localisation strategy is built on sustainable legislation, incentives, and implementation plans — creating a stable and attractive climate for long-term industrial investment. The strategy includes a clear, time-bound roadmap to track progress and deliver tangible results.
Al-Wazir urged manufacturers to take immediate, practical steps to help meet localisation targets, noting that past experience has shown that those who took early initiative in local manufacturing achieved significant success and entered new markets. He underlined Egypt's substantial production capacity and industrial infrastructure, stressing that leveraging these strengths now would contribute meaningfully to the national economy and position Egypt as a regional hub for automotive manufacturing and components.
For their part, automotive manufacturers and feeder industry producers expressed appreciation for the government's efforts to localise the industry and confirmed their readiness to cooperate in achieving industrial development goals. They acknowledged ongoing challenges in certain production stages, particularly in sourcing raw materials and components not currently produced locally, and called for maintaining incentives and streamlining procedures to enable a qualitative leap in the local industry and boost competitiveness in both regional and international markets.

Egypt's real-estate developers are reporting satisfactory demand for coastal projects, while market experts say there is an abundant supply of luxury housing across the board The outlook for the real-estate sector this summer remains unclear, even as the summer season marks the annual peak in sales due to increased demand from expats who return to the country for their summer holidays. Interest typically grows in properties on the North Coast and the Red Sea during the holiday season. Ahmed Shalaby, CEO of Tatweer Misr, a real-estate developer, said that market indicators at the start of the season are positive. He pointed to the company's LE12 billion in contracted sales during the first half of 2025, generated through the sale of some 700 units, including 280 in Mostakbal City, 190 in Ain Sokhna, 160 towards the beginning of the North Coast Road, 40 in a project between Ras Al-Hekma and Marsa Matrouh, and 30 in two other North Coast projects. The company delivered 700 units during the first half of the year, out of a planned total of 2,000 units for 2025, he added. Real-estate development expert Tarek Bahaa said there are positive indicators in the market, noting that several companies have recorded strong sales on the North Coast and in New Mansoura. He pointed to challenges, however, stressing the importance of distinguishing between the primary market, dominated by developers and major real-estate companies, and the secondary market, which involves the resale of units. The primary market currently benefits from extended installment plans, whereas the secondary market is much slower, primarily due to high prices, now estimated in the tens of millions. As a result, buyers with available liquidity, unless compelled to purchase for immediate personal use, tend to prefer the primary market, turning to large developers who offer attractive terms such as down payments as low as 2.5 per cent and installment periods ranging from 10 to 15 years, he explained. This reflects a shift in the culture of real-estate demand in Egypt. Today, buyers are increasingly focused on the installment amounts and their capacity to afford them, rather than on the unit's total price or cost per square metre, Bahaa said. He added that during the summer season, comparing sales on the North Coast and the Red Sea to those in other cities such as New Cairo, 6 October, Sheikh Zayed, or the New Administrative Capital is not relevant, since the dynamics of demand in coastal areas differ significantly from those in other areas. Mohamed Magdi, director of investment research at Al-Ahly Sabbour, a developer, said that preliminary indicators from the first half of the year suggest that 2025 sales will closely mirror those of 2024, with marginal increases. While some may interpret this as a negative sign, Magdi views it as a positive indication of market stability. Such steadiness, he added, allows for more predictable returns and risk assessment, enabling rational, measured investment and purchasing decisions. He noted, however, that prices remain high and that there is an abundant supply of luxury housing across all the new cities and along the North Coast. This oversupply may contribute to a slower pace of purchasing by customers. But he considers this variety to be a positive development, offering buyers a wider range of options suited to their financial abilities. Osama Saadeddin, a consultant to the Real Estate Development Chamber, pointed to changes in the real-estate market and the nature of demand, which had led developers to offer extended installment plans designed to lower monthly payments in line with customers' financial abilities. He said that developers cannot afford to halt construction across multiple projects because a slowdown in the sector would have severe consequences for overall investment and both direct and indirect employment. As a result, the major developers are compelled to maintain the momentum, launch new projects, and ensure continued cash flow in the sector. According to Saadeddin, the solution lies in prolonging payment terms and reducing installment values, even if this proves difficult in the short term. Saadeddin noted that it is misleading to compare sales volumes in Sheikh Zayed and New Cairo with those on the North Coast, as the demand for primary residences differs fundamentally from that for second homes, particularly amid growing interest from foreign clients and Egyptians living abroad. He added that current circumstances call for an intervention from the Ministry of Housing to negotiate appropriate support mechanisms, much as it has done in the past through constructive dialogue with developers. Mohamed Fouad, a member of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian-British Businessmen's Association, said that some major developers are pricing their units at the equivalent of $7 million. As a result, the targeted clientele for such properties is not aligned with the realities of the domestic market. He added that these developers may feel compelled to maintain their high prices to preserve their market position. Egyptian, Jordanian ministers talk cooperation at 33rd Joint Higher Committee session
Egypt's planning minister and her Jordanian counterpart have discussed joint efforts to achieve economic development and enhance growth and employment policies during the 33rd session of the Egyptian-Jordanian Joint Higher Committee in Amman. Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, Rania Al-Mashat, met with Zeina Toukan, Jordan's Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, to discuss strengthening the partnership between their ministries, the Egyptian ministry said in a statement. Al-Mashat affirmed the Egyptian state's keenness to continue developing relations between the two countries, which she said enjoy direct support from their respective political leaderships to achieve economic integration. The ministers discussed activating an executive programme signed between Egypt's Institute of National Planning (INP) and the Jordanian Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation. Al-Mashat highlighted the pivotal role of the Joint Higher Committee, the oldest of all Arab bilateral higher committees, in supporting and strengthening joint economic, trade, investment, and cultural relations. She welcomed the cooperation and exchange of expertise in development planning and sustainable development, noting that a Memorandum of Understanding signed in August 2023 covers areas such as strategic planning, governance, and competitiveness. The two ministers also discussed the possibility of exchanging expertise on their efforts to implement the recommendations of the 'Public Governance Review,' which was launched by both countries in cooperation with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Additionally, they discussed joint coordination in international forums to advance global efforts to implement the outcomes of the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development, especially regarding reforms of the global financial architecture and the United Nations system.

Egypt, China ink $1bn agreement for Sailun tire plant in SCZONE
Egypt's Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on Wednesday witnessed the signing of an agreement between China's Sailun Group and TEDA Egypt to establish a major tire manufacturing plant in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE). The ceremony, held at the government headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, was attended by Kamel Al-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, and Walid Gamal El-Din, Chairperson of SCZONE. The contract was signed by Cao Hui, CEO of TEDA Egypt, and Shi Shaohong, Chairperson of Sailun Tire Group. The $1bn (around EGP 50bn) project will be developed in three phases over a 350,000 sqm site within the Sokhna Integrated Zone of SCZONE, managed by TEDA Egypt. Construction is scheduled to be completed within three years. The first phase—set for completion in 2026—will produce 3 million passenger car tires and 600,000 truck and bus tires annually. Once fully operational, the plant's total annual capacity is expected to exceed 10 million tires, serving both domestic demand and export markets. Madbouly said the project reflects Egypt's commitment to localising the automotive industry and its related supply chains, underscoring the role of public-private partnerships in achieving regional leadership within a short timeframe. He highlighted national infrastructure projects—such as roads, tunnels, and ports—that enhance SCZONE's readiness to attract foreign direct investment and connect production hubs to global markets. Gamal El-Din stressed that tire manufacturing is a key pillar of SCZONE's automotive localisation strategy. He noted that the Authority is working to establish fully integrated industrial clusters, in line with Egypt's national automotive manufacturing strategy launched from the Integrated East Port Said Zone. The SCZONE Chairperson also said the project follows a recent promotional tour to China, which included site visits and meetings with leading automotive and component manufacturers—particularly in electric vehicles and batteries. These engagements aimed to exchange knowledge on advanced technologies and assess investment requirements such as energy, utilities, land, and workforce needs. Sailun Group is among China's largest tire manufacturers, producing a wide range of products for different vehicle types. The company operates factories in China and Vietnam, with an annual capacity of over 26.6 million TBR (Truck and Bus Radial) tires, 88 million PCR (Passenger Car Radial) tires, and 310,000 tonnes of OTR (Off-The-Road) tires. Its sales and logistics network spans more than 180 countries. The planned SCZONE facility will serve as a central regional hub, supplying both the Egyptian market and neighbouring markets.
