Police receive three reports over anti-graft rally scuffle
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have received three reports following the Himpunan Rakyat Benci Rasuah 2.0 rally, which turned tense after a participant ignited a flare, sparking a scuffle between demonstrators and security personnel. The rally, organised by Sekretariat Rakyat Benci Rasuah and attended by around 100 participants, including student groups, began at Kompleks Sogo before moving towards Dataran Merdeka. Dang Wangi district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman, said a participant lit a flare during the rally, releasing thick smoke that posed a safety risk to others. He said officers quickly intervened to contain the situation, but a brief scuffle ensued, resulting in minor injuries to a policeman. "During the preventive action taken, a minor scuffle broke out between rally participants and personnel from Op Aman, resulting in minor injuries to one policeman. "The situation was quickly brought under control by police," he said in a statement today. Sulizmie said three police reports had been lodged, and investigations are ongoing under Section 353 of the Penal Code for using criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging their duties, as well as Sections 3(5) and 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955. He also urged the public not to speculate on the incident, as this could interfere with ongoing investigations. "Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Kuala Lumpur police hotline at 03-2115 9999, the Dang Wangi district control centre at 03-2600 2222, or the nearest police station," he said.

PETALING JAYA : Sekretariat Rakyat Benci Rasuah submitted a notice to the police today on its plan to hold another anti-corruption rally on June 28 in front of the Sogo shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur. The group's coordinator, Fakrurrazzi Khairur Rijal, said the notice was delivered to Dang Wangi police in accordance with the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012, fulfilling the legal requirements for a public gathering. Describing the rally as a response to public concern over governance and accountability, the group said peaceful assemblies were a legitimate form of democratic expression. 'We welcome all Malaysians who believe in accountability and justice to stand with us on June 28,' it said. The rally follows a similar protest in January. The organisers said no significant action had been taken since a memorandum was submitted to the government in February, which was received by Sungai Petani MP Taufiq Johari along with 15 other government MPs.
