Lions' special teams coordinator Dave Fipp lives his dream in Blue Angels ride-along
"There's no way this will ever happen," Fipp said about the possibility of ever going up with the famous U.S. Navy squadron. Turns out, there was a way.
Fipp is a pilot himself and, through a few flying community connections, found himself in the cockpit of a fighter jet.
The Lions posted a video on July 4 showing Fipp's ride-along with the Blue Angels in March. Fipp, the son of a Navy pilot, said he grew up watching the Angels perform at air shows in his hometown of San Diego.
Fipp suited up and went up for a 45-minute flight in an F-18 Super Hornet at the El Centro naval air facility.
"I can't even express in words how grateful I am for the opportunity to fly there... and really just be around those people... totally helped me understand my dad's love for it," Fipp said.
Fipp joined the Lions in 2021 as special teams coordinator after spending eight seasons in the same role with the Philadelphia Eagles. Under his leadership, the unit has been a key contributor to the team's historic success in recent seasons.

WATCH: Dolphins rookie puts preseason game on ice with ridiculous interception vs. Lions
Undrafted rookie cornerback Ethan Robinson's chances at making the Miami Dolphins' 53-man roster are pretty minimal, but he has a decent shot at earning a spot on SportsCenter's "Top 10" on Saturday night. With the Detroit Lions driving down the field in the final minutes of a preseason game, the Dolphins needed a red zone stop to preserve their 24-17 lead. That's when Robinson abruptly put the game to bed with a ridiculously athletic interception on a blitz off the edge. Robinson, 22, spent three seasons with the Bucknell Bison before finishing his collegiate career with the Minnesota Golden Gophers. While his only season in the Big Ten wasn't enough to earn him a spot at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine or have his name called at the 2025 NFL draft, he received a contract due to his abundance of athleticism. At the Minnesota Pro Day, Robinson recorded an outrageous 42-inch vertical jump that would've finished second among all combine participants behind only Seattle Seahawks second-round pick Nick Emmanwori. Robinson's pretty buried on the Dolphins depth chart, but the raw ability showcased in his game-sealing interception makes a pretty strong case for developing the rookie on the practice squad. 3 overreactions from Dolphins' preseason win vs. Lions
The Miami Dolphins completed their second 2025 preseason contest, topping the Detroit Lions, 24-17, at Ford Field. With it being a preseason contest, the Dolphins rested a number of key starters. That group included quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, all four of the Dolphins' top receivers, left tackle Patrick Paul, and center Aaron Brewer. But, that opened the door for Dolphins fans to get a longer look at some different faces. Coming out of Miami's second preseason contest, here are three rapid overreactions: Willie Gay Jr. is going to be a difference-maker for the Dolphins The Dolphins signed Willie Gay Jr. to a one-year, $1.33 million contract this past March. That's looking like more and more of a bargain signing for Miami. For the second preseason game in a row, Gay was running around making plays early and often. On the game's first possession, the 27-year-old diagnosed a 3rd-and-15 screen pass and quickly dumped Lions running back Sione Vaki for a six-yard loss. Gay finished his day with three tackles and a tackle for loss. The 6'1, 246-pound linebacker brings 55 career starts to Miami and he is absolutely going to help the Dolphins at linebacker. Dee Eskridge is making the 53-man roster Dee Eskridge will be on the 53-man roster with the Dolphins in 2025. A practice squad player in 2024, Eskridge was signed to Miami's active roster in October of last year where he played in six games. The 5'9, 190-pound receiver returned five kicks for 146 yards and caught three passes for 44 yards in 2024. Eskridge is among the group at wide receiver jockeying to make the Dolphins' 53-man roster. Though it got off to a rocky start on Saturday with Eskridge fumbling on his opening punt return, his next punt return went for 28 yards before a penalty wiped a lot of that yardage out. But, it was what Eskridge did in the receiving game that helped make his case on Saturday. Eskridge caught three passes for 53 yards, including his 11-yard touchdown grab where he danced his way into the end zone down the sideline. Theo Wease will stick around as one of the Dolphins' practice squad members The Dolphins' top four receivers are established with Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Malik Washington and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine. Dolphins Wire's most recent projection also included Tahj Washington and Dee Eskridge making Miami's 53-man roster coming out of the preseason contest against the Bears. Theo Wease Jr., an undrafted free agent out of Missouri, is among the group battling to make the Dolphins' 53-man roster. On Saturday, Miami fans got a nice glimpse of what Wease can do. The 6'2, 210-pound receiver reeled in six catches for 80 yards and two touchdowns. Wease misses out on the 53-man roster, but he sticks around as one of Miami's practice squad players. Rams Star Talks About How Much Longer He Will Play in NFL
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Plenty of folks are picking the Los Angeles Rams to finish first in the NFC West this season. The team won the division last year with a 10-7 record, and an argument could be made that they have improved a bit. They have essentially replaced oft-injured wide receiver Cooper Kupp with six-time Pro Bowler Davante Adams, and they have a cadre of studs such as wideout Puka Nacua, running back Kyren Williams, defensive ends Kobie Turner and Braden Fiske and linebacker Jared Verse. Adams will turn 32 years of age on Christmas Eve, and while it seems he has plenty left in his tank, others feel he's on a downward trajectory. He recently made an appearance on "The Pivot Podcast" and explained when he'll know it's time for him to retire from the NFL. "The moment that I cannot go out there and decide when I'm gonna impose my will on somebody, I won't be playing anymore," Adams said. "My pride, I've got too much of it to get out there and just have somebody putting their hands on me. ... If that's what's happening to me, then just tell me 'Hey, Te.' Go and tap my shoulder and get (me) up out of there." Read more: 49ers' Brock Purdy Gets Honest About Christian McCaffrey Retirement is a major shift in people's lives, whether they're pro athletes or not. One must find something meaningful to fill his or her time with afterward, and if one isn't able to do so, the result could be trying to return to one's former career or simply going through life forlorn and feeling empty. Dylan Buell/Getty When Adams was younger, he was Aaron Rodgers' No. 1 target on the Green Bay Packers. He exceeded the 1,300-yard mark four times and the 1,500-yard mark twice, and he led the league in touchdown receptions twice, which resulted in six straight Pro Bowl nods. Adams was shockingly traded to the Las Vegas Raiders three years ago, and midway through 2024, he reunited with Rodgers following a trade to the New York Jets. Both the Raiders and Jets finished under .500 with Adams, and he's finally back in a winning situation in L.A. Read more: ESPN Offers Shocking Future Prediction for Cardinals QB Kyler Murray One key Rams player who is likely closer to retirement than Adams is quarterback Matthew Stafford. Stafford led the Rams to the Super Bowl championship during the 2021 season, and while he has missed just three games over the last two years, the 37-year-old has been banged up since getting his ring. Despite all the wear and tear he has, L.A. decided to give him a two-year contract extension this offseason. But he's currently dealing with an aggravated disk in his back, and he hasn't been practicing, let alone playing in preseason games.
