Australian Olympic swimming champion Cam McEvoy shares baby news, name revealed
Australian Olympic champion Cam McEvoy has announced the birth of his first child, much to the delight of the sporting world. Sharing the wonderful news on Monday, the 31-year-old swimmer said Maddi gave birth to their son, Hartley, last week. 'We walked into the hospital at 4pm, not knowing we were just hours away from meeting our son,' McEvoy said in a post on Instagram. 'Maddi was so calm that everyone in the room was shocked when they found out she was 8cm dilated. We had a well-thought-out birthing plan because of Maddi's heart which basically involved as little pain as possible to keep her heart rate down. 'But Hartley seemed to have different plans. Before we knew it, he was earth side in our hands before 7pm.' Maddi was born with a pulmonary valve defect which required four open-heart surgeries and she had a replacement pulmonary valve put in when she was still a teenager. But McEvoy confirmed that the delivery went well and both mum and bub are well. 'Words do so little for how much we love this little guy already,' he posted. 'Mum and baby are both doing exceptionally well.' The post was quickly flooded with well-wishes for the family from fellow Aussie champions. 'He's beautiful Cam! Congratulations to you both,' eight-time medallist Cate Campbell commented. 'What a beautiful boy, we will have the cutest fan club,' three-time champion Sarah Sjostrom said. 'He's already a stud,' Australian swimming legend Grant Hackett said. While McEvoy is in the middle of preparing for the World Championships later this month, he put his training on pause to be by his wife's side for their big moment. When he takes to the pool in Singapore he will set a new men's record for most appearances by a member of the Australian team. McEvoy will compete in the 50m freestyle – the event he won gold in at the Paris Olympics. During the Australian Trials in June, McEvoy finished first in the final with a time of 21.30. It remains the world-leading time this year and he will like his chances of claiming another gold later this month.

NRL 2025: Lachlan Galvin set to play halfback for the Bulldogs
The Bulldogs are confident Lachlan Galvin has enough time to forge a potent halves combination with Matt Burton following confirmation that the mid-season recruit will make his first start at halfback for the club on Saturday night. The intrigue around Galvin's role in the team and how that's affected other players in the spine has been a major talking point ever since he arrived at Belmore. It hasn't helped that he's started two games at five-eighth and two on the bench, while Galvin – who turned 20 this week – was dropped from the 17 last week after initially being named on the bench for the match against the Cowboys. But the No.7 jersey is now his with Toby Sexton dropped from the halves for the game against the Dragons. It'll give Galvin two months to build his combination with Burton, who came up with some big plays in attack to help them sneak past the Cowboys. The Bulldogs haven't been at their clinical best in attack since Galvin arrived, but the end of the State of Origin period should help as they spend the next eight weeks ensuring they're in the best position to contend for a title. 'Ever since he got here, we've been doing work. And we work all different halves,' Preston said. 'If we've ever had to change sides as well, we're making sure we get that done as well. Sammy Conquers All aims for Sydney success with a strategic inside barrier
A string of wide draws has cost Sammy Conquers All a couple of city wins but he can amend that when he heads back to Sydney this week. Coffs Harbour trainer Noel Mayfield-Smith ventured to Randwick with the three-year-old back in February for a TAB Highway where he charged home to finish a close third behind Lisztomania and Exit Fee. After a sixth to Tribecca Star in the NRRA Country Championship Qualifier at Lismore, Sammy Conquers All had three runs in Queensland where he finished fifth at the Gold Coast in the QTIS Jewel and two fourths at Eagle Farm. 'He is racing really well without a lot of luck with barrier draws,' said Mayfield-Smith. 'He drew wide in the Highway and had to go back which didn't suit but he got home quite strong to run third. 'He is a QTIS horses so he ran in a few of those in Brisbane and he kept drawing near the outside and going back on tracks where you had to be up there near the speed. 'He ran very good races but was quite unlucky.' After a short break, Sammy Conquers All drew well and raced outside the leader to score a smart win from Aye Aye Skipper with Brock Ryan in the saddle. The draw has again favoured the gelding when he came up with gate 1 in the Asahi Super Dry Handicap (1400m) with Ryan to again ride. 'He's a better chaser and doesn't like to get to the front too soon as he tends to wander,' he said. 'The longer he is looking at backsides, the better he will chase. 'From the inside draw, he should be just behind the speed and have a last crack at them.' Closer to home, Mayfield-Smith will saddle up Monte Tiana in the Winning Edge Presentations Benchmark 58 Handicap (1400m) at Grafton where she has drawn barrier 11. The four-year-old mare appreciated a better track when fourth at Coffs Harbour last start and Mayfield-Smith expects her to make her presence felt again. 'She drew wide the other day and probably got back a bit too far but she motored to the line on a track that was playing to horses on the inside,' he said. 'Forget her two runs before that because she is just hopeless on wet ground. 'The gate doesn't worry me that much. She should settle about midfield and she likes to come into it down the outside. 'Her work has been extremely good and I expect her to run well.'
