LA Dodgers at Chicago Cubs odds, picks and predictions
The LA Dodgers (16-7) take on the Chicago Cubs (14-10) in the opener of a 2-game set Tuesday. First pitch from Wrigley Field is set for 7:40 p.m. ET. Let's analyze BetMGM Sportsbook's MLB odds around the Dodgers vs. Cubs odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.
Season series: Dodgers lead 3-2
The Dodgers have won 5 of 6 after a 1-0 shutout at the Texas Rangers Sunday. RHP Tyler Glasnow threw 4 shutout frames and fanned 6 before leaving with leg cramps. The Dodgers had just 3 hits, but 1B Freddie Freeman's sac fly in the eighth was enough to make it stick. They took 2 of 3 at Texas but scored just 1, 3 and 3 runs in the games. That's something to monitor.
The Cubs lost the finale against the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-2 Sunday in 11 innings. They managed just 4 hits after scoring 19 runs in the previous 2 days. The Cubs are 5-3 over the last 8 games. OF Kyle Tucker is hitting .302 with 6 homers and 23 RBIs in his showcase for a massive contract in the offseason.
Dodgers at Cubs projected starters
RHP Dustin May vs. LHP Shota Imanaga
May (1-1, 1.06 ERA) makes his fourth start. He has a 0.77 WHIP, 3.2 BB/9 and 7.4 K/9 through 17 innings.
Last start: Win, 6 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 0 BB, 7 K in 5-3 home victory vs. Colorado Rockies last Monday (April 14)
Career vs. Cubs: 1 road start (April 22, 2023), win, 5 1/3 IP, 2 ER, 2 H, 3 BB, 6 K in 9-4 victory
Imanaga (2-1, 2.22 ERA) makes his sixth start. He has a 0.99 WHIP, 3.2 BB/9 and 6.7 K/9 through 28 1/3 innings.
Last start: No-decision, 5 IP, 0 ER, 4 H, 3 BB, 7 K in 2-1 win at San Diego Padres last Tuesday
2025 vs. Dodgers: 1 start (March 18), no-decision, 4 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 4 BB, 2 K in 4-1 defeat during Tokyo Series
Career vs. Dodgers: 1-0, 1.80 ERA (15 IP, 3 ER), 9 H, 4 BB, 9 K in 3 starts

Dodgers at Cubs picks and predictions
Prediction
Dodgers 5, Cubs 3
I like the DODGERS (-120) because May really limits the traffic. It's early, but Imanaga's K-rate is down to 6.7 from 9.0, and his BB/9 is up to 3.2 from 1.5. Is this the depreciation of a pitcher in his second season stateside? Again, it's early, but it could be. I just trust May and the Dodgers more here.
BetMGM is offering a boosted line for 1+ runs scored in the first inning at +100 and 0 runs scored in the first inning at +100. I'm taking NO RUNS SCORED IN FIRST INNING (+100). The Dodgers have scored once in the last 3 games in the first, and the Cubs have done it in 2 of 6. As for May, he hasn't allowed a run in 4 GS this year, and Imanaga has only done it once in 5 GS. With a couple of tough pitchers going today and their propensity to get out of the first unscathed, give me the NRFI.
The wind is expected to blow out at around 10 mph at first pitch on a 65-degree evening. However, I mentioned the Dodgers only posted 7 runs in the last 3 games. They're also 3-7 O/U in their last 10 games, and the Cubs are 4-5-1.
Take the UNDER 8.5 (+100).

Eagles fan Mike Trout wrote Super Bowl LIX score on his bat knob — now it's in a baseball card
NFL fans commemorate their team's Super Bowl victories in all sorts of ways, but Mike Trout might be the first to do it on a bat knob. The South Jersey native who is often seen in his end-zone seats at Lincoln Financial Field through the fall and winter wrote a special inscription on the bottom of one of his game-used bats after his Philadelphia Eagles won Super Bowl LIX: 'Eagles 40 Chiefs 22. Fly Eagles Fly!' That knob has since been cut off the bat and put into a one-of-a-kind baseball card autographed by Trout that will be in Topps' upcoming Tier One set (release date has yet to be announced). FIRST LOOK: Mike Trout wrote the final score on his game-used bat knob 🦅🔥 — Topps (@Topps) June 1, 2025 Bat knob cards always present a rare piece of unique MLB memorabilia, but Trout, himself a baseball card collector, now has one of the more unique ones out there, with MLB-NFL crossover appeal. It's far from the first time the Los Angeles Angels outfielder referenced his Eagles fandom on a card, though. He wrote 'Go Birds!' on his one-of-one autographed MLB logo patch card in 2023 Topps Triple Threads and 'Fly Eagles Fly!' on his 2023 Topps Pristine 1/1 card. But if you're looking for crossover appeal for sports card and trading card game collectors, the recently retired Evan Longoria helped create what could become the most expensive bat knob card in industry history. An autographed bat knob card in this year's Tier One set for the three time All-Star third baseman contains a knob with an image of Charizard from Pokemon fame. When Pokémon and baseball collide 🤝 Evan Longoria posted this on his Instagram, a 1 of 1 bat knob featuring Charizard that will be in Tier One Baseball 👀🔥 — Fanatics Live (@fanaticslive) March 23, 2025 There's already a $100,000 public bounty on the Longoria card made by a Florida sports card shop owner. That would shatter the record for the most expensive bat knob card sold. According to Card Ladder, a 2017 Topps Tier One Honus Wagner card (not autographed) stands as the top selling bat knob card going for $24,600 in August 2022. Advertisement Longoria made it no secret that he'd been an interested buyer of the card as well. However, nothing can compare to Bryce Harper's 'RIP Harambe' bat knob card. Bryce Harper's 1/1 game-used "RIP Harambe" bat knob card… 🦍🔥 — Topps (@Topps) February 19, 2025 Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich and Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Junior Caminero added their own twists to their upcoming Tier One bat knob autographed cards. They each have images of their 2024 Topps Series One cards on the knobs. While collectors wait for Tier One's release, they can also hunt for bat knob cards in the new Topps Sterling set, which went on sale Wednesday. The set bears 81 autographed bat knob cards from a mix of current players like Trout, Mookie Betts, Aaron Judge and Juan Soto as well as former players like Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, David Ortiz and Cal Ripken Jr. They keep getting better… This stack of game-used bat knob cards will be featured in 2025 Sterling.
