Forget about law school entrance exams. One actress proved she has the Elle Woods savvy.
Lexi Minetree has been cast as a younger version of the sorority girl turned law student for Prime Video's upcoming "Legally Blonde" prequel series "Elle." Reese Witherspoon, who portrayed Woods in the original 2001 comedy, announced Minetree's casting in an Instagram post Thursday.
"Allow me to introduce you to the new Elle Woods!" Witherspoon wrote. "After watching so many incredible auditions for the new Elle prequel series on @PrimeVideo, we finally found our Elle."
Witherspoon's post also included a sweet video of the actress breaking the good news to her successor in person. Witherspoon, wearing a hot pink cardigan reminiscent of Woods' signature attire, greeted Minetree with a hug before telling her, "We had to make a really hard decision the other day."
"We wanted to tell you in person because you've just worked really hard," Witherspoon continued. "And we just wanted to tell you that you don't have to audition anymore because you got the part. You're Elle Woods."
Upon hearing the news, a visibly emotional Minetree asked Witherspoon if she could hug her in celebration. The pair then took a moment to call Minetree's mother, who remarked that the actresses' voices sounded "exactly alike." "When I saw her tape I was like, 'Are we the same person?' This is so weird," Witherspoon added.
Minetree, who has appeared in various short films since 2016, starred in the 2023 Tubi film "The Murdaugh Murders" and scored a guest-starring role on "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" in 2024.
Background: Reese Witherspoon to revive 'Legally Blonde' in Amazon Prime Video series
Last spring, Amazon Prime Video confirmed to USA TODAY that a "Legally Blonde" series was in development with Witherspoon and her Hello Sunshine company (under Candle Media) producing the show alongside "Gossip Girl" creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage's production company Fake Empire and Amazon MGM Studios.
Prime Video shared more details about the spin-off in May 2024, revealing the show would be a prequel series titled "Elle." The streaming title will follow Woods in high school "as we learn about the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love" in the original movie, Prime Video said.
Laura Kittrell ("Insecure") is the creator and showrunner for "Elle," with Witherspoon serving as an executive producer. The series currently does not have a release date, according to the show's IMDb page.
More 'Legally Blonde' news: Elle Woods to return in Reese Witherspoon-produced prequel on Amazon
In "Legally Blonde," based on the Amanda Brown novel of the same name, Witherspoon's Elle Woods enrolls at Harvard Law School to win her boyfriend back. The Golden Globe-nominated film, which starred Selma Blair and Luke Wilson, grossed $141.8 million worldwide.
Witherspoon reprised the role in 2003's "Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde," which also grossed over $100 million at the box office. A spin-off, "Legally Blondes," was released in 2009 but did not star Witherspoon, and a "Legally Blonde" stage musical opened in 2007.
In recent years, Witherspoon expressed a desire to return in a third "Legally Blonde" film. "Legally Blonde 3" was even announced in 2018 for a planned 2020 release that never happened.

Suge Knight Addresses Diddy's Sex Trafficking Trial: 'Tell The Real Truth, And Bring Everybody Accountable'
Source: Kevork Djansezian / Getty As we enter the fourth week of Diddy's sex trafficking and racketeering case, many of Diddy's former acquaintances have been put on the stand, and now one of his biggest enemies is speaking out. Suge Knight spoke to ABC News, and despite the two being on opposite sides and catalysts behind the decades-old East Coast-West Coast beef, he's not putting all the blame on Diddy for his sexual behaviors, claiming others were involved but falling short of naming anyone. 'If you're going to make Puffy answer, make everyone answer,' Knight began. 'Change the theme of the culture of the problems in Hip-Hop. I think it'd be a great thing to let Puffy tell his truth. Tell the real truth, and bring everybody accountable.' Knight adds that Diddy's freak offs may have become public knowledge in 2023 due to Cassie's lawsuit, but they had been happening long before and were an open secret in the Hip-Hop world. 'Everybody knew that,' Knight said. 'Puffy didn't just pop in the industry and say, 'hey, I want to have sex with everybody.' I mean, we don't have enough time to name all the names.' Suge Knight speaks out about Sean 'Diddy' Combs sex trafficking case. — ABC News (@ABC) June 2, 2025 Knight, who's currently serving a 28-year sentence for a fatal hit and run in 2015, has been mentioned 50 times in Diddy's trial. Most recently, he was a topic of discussion when Diddy's former assistant Capricorn Clark took the stand. She revealed that once Diddy found out that she used to work for Knight, her new boss told her he'd kill her if anything sketchy happened. Diddy's lawyer Marc Agnifilo pressed Clark on why she'd continue to work for someone who was allegedly so dangerous, but Knight points out that it's because of how much power Diddy had. Knight said he felt bad for Clark and applauded her for her ambition and desire to succeed in the entertainment industry. 'A lot of people might say, well, Capricorn could have did anything else she wanted to do. She did try,' Knight said. 'If you go get a job at Universal and Puffy makes a phone call, you're not getting that job. If you go get a job at a counter agency or in the movie business and Puff make that call, your career is over.' Even with their long-standing beef, Knight doesn't think prosecutors should take 'Puffy and lock him up and throw away the key,' because he thinks he can 'do so much good right now.' Knight advises that he take the stand to tell the truth and take a plea deal, which he already turned down ahead of the trial. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Akademiks TV (@djakademikstv) Knight also turned heads recently during another phone interview with Piers Morgan, where he claimed Diddy and Ray J were romantically involved. 'Ray J and Puffy was definitely lovers,' Knight claimed. 'Puffy allegedly gave him $10 million dollars to put out an album about the two brothers loving each other.' Using his favorite soapbox, Instagram, in a series of now-deleted posts, 50 Cent is letting his followers know that he's not playing regarding his hate for Diddy and that he will do whatever it takes to keep Diddy from securing a pardon from Felon 47. 'He said some really bad things about Trump, it's not ok. Im gonna reach out so he knows how I feel about this guy,' the G-Unit general said in one Instagram post. In another, he added, 'Donald doesn't take well to disrespect, and doesn't forget who chooses to go against him. while working tirelessly to make America great again there is no room for distraction. He would consider pardoning anyone who was being mistreated not Puffy Daddy.' Is Trump Seriously Considering Pardoning Diddy? Now, it's unlikely that Trump will grant the disgraced rapper/mogul a pardon, but he was asked about it during a Friday press conference, telling reporters, 'People have been very close to asking' regarding a pardon for Diddy. However, he claims that no one has reached out to him yet. 'I would certainly look at the facts. If I think somebody is mistreated, whether they like me or don't like me, it wouldn't have any impact on me.' 🔥🚨BREAKING: Trump just floated the idea of pardoning Diddy. Not because of the evidence.
