Delhi government cancels all official leaves amid Pakistan conflict; cites emergency preparedness
NEW DELHI: In response to the rapidly escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the Delhi government has taken the precautionary measure of canceling all leaves for its officials with immediate effect.
This directive will remain in force until further notice, as authorities prepare for an emergency situations.
"In view of the prevailing situation and preparedness for emergency response systems, the Competent Authority has directed that no leave shall be granted to any Officer/Official of Govt. of NCT of Delhi, till further orders," an order issued by the services department read.
The decision comes amid a significant escalation in hostilities between India and Pakistan. On the intervening night of May 6-7, the Indian Air Force launched Operation Sindoor in retaliation for a deadly militant attack on April 22 in Pahalgam which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians.
The situation has led to heavy artillery exchanges along the Line of Control (LoC), with civilian casualties reported on both sides.
A day before, a massive mock civil defence exercise was conducted at 55 locations in the city as part of a nationwide emergency preparedness drill.
According to officials, the government's decision to cancel all official leaves is seen as a proactive step to ensure readiness for any emergency given the proximity of Delhi to the conflict zones and its significance as the national capital.
Officials are expected to be on standby to coordinate responses, maintain public order, and provide essential services as needed.

CM Sarma claimed that while Gandhi repeatedly sought details on India's casualties during the operation, he showed no concern about the damage inflicted on Pakistan. 'There's a difference between questioning losses after a military operation and doing so while it's ongoing. Rahul Gandhi chose the latter — and never once asked what losses Pakistan suffered,' the Chief Minister asserted. Operation Sindoor was launched in response to the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, and the resolution in the Assembly marked a unified acknowledgment of the Indian armed forces' role in the counter-offensive. Earlier on Monday, CM Sarma asserted that the government would speed up the process of deporting illegal immigrants from the state to safeguard the indigenous community. While speaking at the Assembly, CM Sarma said: "The state government is set to use the 1950 law to expel the illegal immigrants here. The apex court of the country has also given a nod regarding this. The administrative machinery will work accordingly to make Assam free from illegal immigrants.' The Chief Minister also pressed for safeguarding the interests of Assamese people. He said, 'I am an Assamese first and a Chief Minister later.' The Assam government has decided to invoke a little-known law from 1950 -- the Immigrants (Expulsion from Assam) Order -- to fast-track the deportation of undocumented immigrants, bypassing the usual judicial process.

PM Modi to meet Operation Sindoor multi-party delegations on June 10
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet members of multi-party delegations, who had travelled to world capitals to convey India's stand following Operation Sindoor, on Tuesday evening, sources said. Official sources said the members will be sharing their feedback with the prime minister, whose government has praised the work of the seven delegations comprising over 50 persons, mostly current MPs. Former parliamentarians and ex-diplomats were also part of these delegations that visited 33 foreign capitals and the European Union. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has already met the delegations and praised their efforts in conveying India's strong stand against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. Four delegations were led by MPs of the ruling alliance, including two from the BJP, one JD(U) and one of Shiv Sena, while three were led by opposition MPs, one each of the Congress, DMK and NCP(SP). The government sent the multi-party delegations to portray a message of national unity in the fight against terrorism, with the likes of Congress MP Shashi Tharoor and AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi joining the ruling alliance members in championing the Indian cause abroad. Prominent former parliamentarians in the delegations included ex-Union ministers Ghulam Nabi Azad and Salman Khurshid.
