Taco Bell is coming to Ireland this summer.
Applegreen are set to open Ireland's first Taco Bell in the coming months. The Mexican-inspired restaurant, first opened in California in 1962, has been a fast-food staple in the US for decades.
Applegreen say they plan to open Taco Bell outlets at a number of its Irish locations over the next five years. However, while they have confirmed the first one will open this summer, there is no word of a location yet.
Seamus Stapleton, the Managing Director of Applegreen's Republic of Ireland business, said: 'We are really excited to announce this partnership to launch the iconic Taco Bell brand in Ireland. This partnership underscores our commitment to bringing world-class roadside hospitality to our customers, offering them greater choice and quality while they travel.
"We are constantly investing in our locations, and I'm sure Irish consumers will be very excited at the arrival of Taco Bell." New Market Lead for Taco Bell Europe Matthew Johnson added: 'We are thrilled to bring Taco Bell's innovative and flavourful menu to Ireland.
"This expansion is a testament to our commitment to growing our brand globally and delivering exceptional dining experiences to new markets. We believe that our unique offering will resonate with consumers in Ireland, providing a new and exciting dining option that celebrates bold flavours and a fun, vibrant atmosphere."
Applegreen opened its first service station in Ballyfermot in Dublin in 1992 and now operates almost 200 locations in Ireland.

'A life-enhancing prize for me' - Lucky Dublin Lotto player enjoys massive win
One lucky Lotto player has headed to Lotto HQ to claim a dream win of €2,000 a month for the next five years. The Dublin player snapped up the life-changing win after matching six numbers in the EuroDreams draw on Thursday, March 20. The winning Quick Pick ticket was purchased from the Maxol Garage, Turvey, Donabate, Co. Dublin. Speaking on the win, the Dubliner said: "This is a life-enhancing prize for me and I'm really looking forward to being able to plan some of those once in a lifetime bucket list items that I've always wanted to – including travelling to some of the world's wonders and perhaps sky diving!" This latest National Lottery top prize winner joins the growing club of EuroDreams players that have won amazing prizes since the game launched in 2023. So far, there have been 22 winners of the top prize worth €20,000 a month for 30 years, while there have been 95 winners of the Tier Two prize worth €2,000 a month for five years. Darragh O'Dwyer, National Lottery spokesperson, said: "Since the game began in November 2023, there have been 5 Irish winners of the €2,000 a month for five years prize, that included three special events. "Four players in Dublin (Two online and two retail) and one player in Cork have already taken home this life-enhancing prize. It's great to see our latest winner collecting their annuity prize, which will make a huge difference to their lives for the next five years." EuroDreams launched in Ireland in 2023, and unlike other draw-based games, the annuity top prize, which is worth €7.2 million, will be paid in monthly tax-free payments of €20,000 spread over 30 years. Similarly, the Tier Two prize will be paid in monthly tax-free payments of €2,000 spread over five years. The game is played in eight countries, namely Ireland, Austria, Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland, with draws taking place every Monday and Thursday evening at usual National Lottery agents nationwide, online, here or through the National Lottery app. Players dreaming of becoming Ireland's latest EuroDreams winner are reminded that tickets for tonight's EuroDreams draw can be purchased in-store, through the National Lottery app or here ahead of the 7.30pm cut-off time for sales this evening. Nearly 30 cent in every €1 spent on National Lottery games goes back to Good Causes in the areas of sport, youth, health, welfare, education, arts, heritage and the Irish Language. In total, more than €6.5 billion has been raised for Good Causes since the National Lottery was established 37 years ago. In 2024 alone, €239.3 million was raised for local Good Causes in communities across Ireland.

Fáilte Ireland gets green light to create food hall in vacant church near Grafton Street
DUBLIN CITY COUNCIL has given the green light to Fáilte Ireland for its planning application to establish a food hall at the vacant St Andrew's Church near Grafton Street in Dublin 2. The council has granted planning permission after concluding that the planned food hall would comply with the zoning objective of the site and would not detract from the area's civic character. Fáilte Ireland will not be operating the food hall itself but will now instead press ahead with its plans to seek an experienced operator to lease the space out for food hall use. In a letter to Dublin City Council, Laura McCarthy from Fáilte Ireland stated that 'the proposed change of use for the premises has the potential to create a major centrally based asset for the city, with the potential to inject cultural and economic value which would benefit local residents, employees and all visitors, both domestic and foreign'. Manager at Corporate Services at Fáilte Ireland McCarthy pointed out that food tourism generates around €2 billion to the Irish economy each year. Advertisement McCarthy said: 'In order to generate and sustain further economic opportunity and economic development we need to create iconic food and drink experiences – the proposed change of use and redevelopment of St Andrew's would be the embodiment of that vision. She added: 'It is envisaged that the proposed food hall will showcase the best of local and Irish produce within a very high-quality setting which will not only reinvigorate but repurpose part of our capital city's historic building inventory.' Planning documents stated that the new food hall has the potential to generate 30-40 full and part-time jobs. The Swords-based Wright Group secured planning for a food hall at St Andrew's Church in 2019 through its Mink Fusion subsidiary but with the Covid-19 pandemic intervening the firm did not proceed with the five-year planning permission. In a separate planning report lodged with the application by David Mulcahy Planning Consultants, it stated that the proposed new use 'will bring life back to this vacant building which is one of the most prominent buildings in the city'. Mulcahy stated that 'the concept of a food/dining hall, which is essentially a permanent indoor market with associated dining facilities, is well established in most European cities and they are very popular for tourists, city residents and local employees'. He said that the emphasis will be on showcasing local produce, fresh where possible, and all individual vendors will be required to provide a high quality offering.
