Hindu activists subjected to human rights violation: Forum

Time of Indiaa day ago

Mangaluru: A delegation of the United Forum of All Hindu Organisations met the deputy commissioner and the IGP of Western Range, seeking action against police in Dakshina Kannada for allegedly summoning Hindu activists, conducting searches, and taking photos at their houses at midnight.
Sri Vidyasaraswati Swamiji, president of Bharat Sant Samiti (Karnataka region), said that recent incidents in Dakshina Kannada created an alarming atmosphere of fear among citizens, undermining their right to privacy and personal dignity. "Over the past week, under the pretext of maintaining communal harmony, police targeted Hindu activists, engaging in actions that amounted to serious violations of human rights.
As per reports, local police stations called Hindu activists for questioning late at night, without serving official notices. Officials visited their homes at odd hours, photographed them without consent, and collected GPS data of their residences. Even elderly daily-wage workers with no history of activism faced late-night calls and intimidation," he said.
"Posts made by Hindus on social media are allegedly being met with FIRs, arrests, and suppression of their freedom of expression.

Such actions violate Articles 14, 19, and 21 of the Constitution, and constitute serious offences under BNS sections 105, 107, 182, 352, and 128. The govt must initiate a high-level investigation into these human rights violations by senior police officers in Dakshina Kannada," the forum urged.
"Elderly citizens who were harassed must be given appropriate compensation, and written apologies must be obtained from those responsible.
An immediate investigation should be conducted into death threats to Hindu functionaries, and necessary legal protection must be provided to them," the forum stated in a memorandum.
"Legal action must be taken against those responsible for the violence, media attacks, and stone-pelting incidents during Abdul Rehman's funeral procession. There is strong suspicion that members of the banned PFI continue to operate under different banners, and were involved in the murder of Suhas Shetty. A stricter ban on PFI must be enforced, and harsh legal measures taken against its active members," they demanded.

The commission filed the complaints at the additional chief magistrate of Ajmer under Section 217 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Jaswant Garasiya of Banswara is a Bachelor of Arts (BA), but he filed an application for the assistant director (Science and IT department) exam 2024, even though the essential qualification for this exam was a first-class degree in natural and agricultural science or a first-class Master's degree in engineering or technology, or a first-class MSc or MTech with a graduate degree in science and engineering, along with two years of specialised experience in IT and science technology organisation. UP CM adviser holds talks with Goswami community over Banke Bihari Corridor

Agra: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath's adviser Awanish Kumar Awasthi on Friday, chaired a meeting at the tourist facilitation centre in Vrindavan, to discuss issues related to the proposed Banke Bihari Corridor with members of the Goswami community involved in the management of the temple, local shopkeepers and residents. Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Awasthi said the proposed project aims to enhance facilities for pilgrims, and efficiently manage the increasing pilgrim footfall in the Mathura-Vrindavan area. "The number of pilgrims visiting the area is rising exponentially. Today's meeting focused on how to effectively cater to this surge while ensuring public confidence and participation in the planning process. This was the first round of discussions, and it was very productive," he said. On concerns raised by the Goswami community regarding the project, Awasthi said several suggestions had been put forth during the meeting. "The district magistrate and other officials will carefully evaluate these inputs. The state govt aims to proceed with the most inclusive and best possible option to take the project forward," Awasthi said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Established in 1862 in the heart of Vrindavan, the Shri Banke Bihari temple is administered by Shebaits — a hereditary priesthood responsible for daily rituals and temple management. It remains one of North India's most visited pilgrimage sites. The Supreme Court's May 15 verdict came amid ongoing protests by members of the Goswami community and local residents, who have opposed both the corridor project and the formation of Banke Bihari Temple Trust. The court's decision, delivered by a bench of Justices Bela M Trivedi and SC Sharma, cleared the way for the govt to move ahead with its Rs 500 crore redevelopment plan, which includes acquiring nearly five acres of land near the shrine, using temple funds. Calls for redevelopment intensified after a stampede-like incident during Janmashtami celebrations in 2022, left two dead. In Sept 2023, the Allahabad high court directed the state govt to implement a corridor plan for improved crowd management and safety. While officials claim stakeholders were consulted, Shebaits and local residents have alleged they were excluded from the planning process. Five Coimbatore cops placed under suspension for taking bribe, misconduct

Coimbatore: City police commissioner A Saravana Sundar on Thursday evening placed five police personnel under suspension for various misconduct. A traffic police inspector facing corruption charges was, meanwhile, transferred to the police control room on Friday. An official source identified the suspended cops as Manikandan, a head constable with the Vadavalli police station; Vadivelu, a constable attached to the Selvapuram police station; Maharajan, a constable with the Variety Hall Road police station; and head constable Kapoor and constable Vinoth, both attached to the Podanur police station. He said head constable Manikandan had threatened a motorist named Senthil Kumar, who was caught with a beer bottle on his motorcycle during a vehicle check on the night of June 3, to pay the cash he had with him for not registering a drunk driving case against him. "The head constable told the motorist that he had to shell out Rs10,000 in fine for drunk driving. The motorist paid him Rs700 and his friend, who came to know about the incident, approached police. Subsequently, a probe was initiated against Manikandan, who was placed under suspension on Thursday." According to the source, constables Vadivelu and Maharajan were placed under suspension for obtaining call detail report for a mobile phone number without the knowledge of senior police officers. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is USDJPY on the Upward Move?
