Turkish Airlines seals landmark A350 finance deal with DIB

Zawya6 days ago
Turkish Airlines, the national flag carrier of Türkiye, said it has successfully executed an innovative financing transaction for an Airbus A350 aircraft with Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB).
The transaction marks Turkish Airlines' first-ever Islamic finance-backed aircraft financing, introducing shariah-compliant structures into its funding portfolio as part of its broader diversification strategy.
DIB acted as financier for the acquisition and induction of a new Airbus A350-941 into the Turkish Airlines fleet, with the transaction structured through a 12-year Islamic finance lease (Ijarah).
The deal represents a significant milestone in DIB's ongoing efforts to advance the global influence of Islamic finance.
By enabling one of the world's leading airlines to adopt a fully shariah-compliant financing structure, DIB said it reaffirms the strength, credibility, and adaptability of Islamic finance in delivering complex cross-border funding structures.
The agreement was sealed at a key ceremony held in Istanbul, in the presence of Dr Adnan Chilwan, Group Chief Executive Officer of DIB, Turkish Airlines Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee Prof. Ahmet Bolat, and Turkish Airlines Chief Financial Officer and Member of the Board and the Executive Committee, Assoc. Prof. Murat Şeker, alongside other senior executives from both organisations.
Dr Chilwan said: "At a time when global markets are rethinking the foundations of sustainable finance, this transaction sends a clear signal that Islamic finance is no longer a niche; it is a resilient and globally relevant financial structure for the future."
"For Turkish Airlines to embrace Shariah-compliant financing for the first time and to choose DIB as their Islamic finance provider reflects both the strength of our principles and the confidence they have placed in our capabilities," he stated.
"We value this collaboration deeply. It not only supports the airline's strategic growth but also reinforces the strengthening of economic ties between the UAE and Türkiye. This relationship continues to thrive on a vision rooted in mutual respect, shared ambition, and enduring cooperation," he added.
On the milestone transaction, Bolat stated: "This transaction demonstrates our commitment to financial innovation and strengthening our fleet while also marking a new chapter in our cooperation with leading institutions in the UAE and the broader Gulf region."
"We are pleased to have completed this landmark financing in collaboration with DIB and look forward to building on this partnership in the future, he added.

Turkey inflation falls to 33.52% in July, below forecast

ISTANBUL - Turkish annual consumer price inflation dipped more than expected to 33.52% in July, official data showed on Monday, sustaining a downward trend despite strong rises in housing and education sector prices. Month-on-month, inflation was 2.06%, the Turkish Statistical Institute said, below forecasts. In June, CPI inflation was 1.37% monthly and 35.05% annually. In a Reuters poll, the monthly inflation rate was expected to be 2.4% in July, with the annual rate seen at 34.05%. On July 24, the central bank cut its policy rate by 300 basis points and relaunched an easing cycle, while saying that leading indicators suggest a temporary rise in monthly inflation in July due to month-specific factors. A mid-year hike in fuel and tobacco prices as well as a rise in natural gas prices had been expected to drive monthly inflation. Transport prices rose 2.89% month-on-month and alcoholic drinks and tobacco prices rose 5.69%. Housing prices were up 5.78%. The domestic producer price index rose 1.73% month-on-month in July for an annual rise of 24.19%, the data showed. Inflation is seen dropping to 29.75% at the end of this year according to the poll median, higher than the central bank forecast of 24%. Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek said that the disinflation is in line with targets and that year-end inflation will be within the central bank's forecast range. "We will continue to resolutely implement our program to achieve lasting price stability, our primary priority," Simsek also said in a post on X.

ALEC achieves LEED Platinum Certification for HQ and Gold for ALEMCO Offices

Dubai, United Arab Emirates – Following extensive renovation works, ALEC has been awarded the prestigious LEED Platinum certification for its headquarters in Dubai, while its MEP subsidiary, ALEMCO, has secured a LEED Gold certification for its corporate office and adjoining yard in Dubai Industrial City. These certifications, awarded by the US Green Building Council for Commercial Interiors, reflect the company's deep-rooted commitment to quality, sustainability and employee well-being. LEED for Interior Design and Construction (LEED ID+C), is a green building rating system focused on the design and construction of interior spaces within commercial buildings. The upgrades mark a significant milestone for ALEC as it continues to invest in creating healthier, more efficient workspaces. By achieving the highest level of LEED certification, ALEC demonstrates both its capabilities in delivering world-class green building solutions and its determination to hold its own operations to the highest standards. 'Our priority was to enhance the overall workplace experience for our people, while embedding sustainability at every stage of the renovation,' said Barry Lewis, CEO at ALEC. 'With improvements ranging from low-flow water fittings to LED lighting and advanced energy metering, we've not only reduced our footprint. but reaffirmed our commitment to creating better buildings. These upgrades echo the same principles we bring to client projects, helping them meet and exceed their green building targets.' To earn the LEED certifications, ALEC implemented a wide range of sustainability measures across both facilities. Water consumption has been reduced by 55% from baseline through the use of low-flow fixtures equipped with sensors. Lighting energy was cut by 25% compared to ASHRAE 90.1-2010 standards, thanks to the installation of energy-efficient LED fixtures, occupancy sensors, and enhanced commissioning protocols. Indoor environmental quality was enhanced through the use of low-VOC paints, adhesives, and materials, while design features maximised daylight use and improved acoustics. Significant attention was given to responsible sourcing and material reuse. Structural materials included steel with 25% post-consumer recycled content, 100% bio-based wall boards for phone booths, and high-recycled content in insulation and ceiling components. Similar practices were adopted at ALEMCO's facility, reinforcing the company's circular approach to design and construction. Almost 100% of workstation tables, wooden wall panels, reception desks, joinery, storage units, and various meeting room elements from ALEC HQ offices, were diverted and reused at the company's new design office in Dubai, reducing refurbishment-related waste. This latest achievement extends ALEC's proven track record in helping clients realise their own green building ambitions. Notable successes include LEED Platinum certifications for the Saudi Arabia and UAE Pavilions at EXPO 2020, and LEED Gold ratings for projects such as ADNOC's new headquarters, the Mobility Pavilion at EXPO 2020, City Centre Mirdif, and One Za'abeel. In addition, ALEC has supported several Abu Dhabi-based developments in securing Estidama Pearl Ratings, including Pearl 2 for SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, the ADIA Carpark, and Abu Dhabi Airport's Arrivals Hall and Transfer Baggage Facility, as well as Pearl 1 for Yas Waterworld. 'As we continue to drive the sustainability agenda forward across the region, our own renovations stand as proof that you don't need to choose between sustainability and design,' said Lewis. 'With careful planning, extensive reuse and responsible material selection, organisations can elevate their interiors while delivering on environmental performance. We're proud of what we've achieved and look forward to supporting more partners across the region in their own green building journeys.'
