Udaipur Files: Kanhaiya Lal's Son Yash Sahu Urges Citizens To Watch Film, Empty Seat Reserved As Tribute
On Friday, August 8, Udaipur Files, a film inspired by the brutal 2022 murder of tailor Kanhaiya Lal in Rajasthan, released in cinemas across the country. For Kanhaiya Lal's family, especially his son Yash Sahu, the film is not just another cinematic release — it is an emotional chapter in their ongoing fight for justice.

'This is not just a movie, it's a message to the people of our country… about what happened to my father on June 28 and how terrorism is taking root in our nation," he said, his voice carrying both grief and determination.
'Not Against Any Religion' – Just the Truth
Yash stressed that the film's intention is not to target any faith or inflame communal sentiments, but to shed light on the dangers of radicalisation. Its purpose is to create awareness and expose the dangerous face of terrorism," he explained.

An Empty Seat for a Fallen Father
The emotional weight of the film was palpable at a special screening, where the auditorium was packed with supporters. Yash also expressed gratitude to Hindu organisations and the Central Government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for supporting the making and release of the film. 'This backing has given us strength to continue our fight for justice," he said.
A Murder That Shocked the Nation
On June 28, 2022, Kanhaiya Lal was attacked in his shop in Udaipur by two men, who later admitted to killing him over a social media post he allegedly shared in support of BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma's controversial remarks about Prophet Muhammad. The incident was later linked to a larger terrorist conspiracy, and multiple arrests were made.
The killing sparked nationwide outrage and condemnation, highlighting the growing threat of extremist ideologies.
About the Film
Udaipur Files, directed by Bharat S Shrinate and produced by Amit Jani, stars Vijay Raaz and Preeti Jhangiani. The film seeks to portray the sequence of events leading to Kanhaiya Lal's murder, while also exploring how extremist mindsets take root and impact communities. It is as much a cinematic narrative as it is a call for unity against terrorism.
For Yash Sahu, the release of Udaipur Files is a way to keep his father's memory alive and ensure that the tragedy sparks awareness across India. 'This film is part of my father's fight for justice. Every citizen must know what happened to him and understand how big a threat terrorism is for any country," he said.
