Man Utd CEO Berrada sticking to 2028 Premier League title aim
Manchester United chief executive Omar Berrada is sticking to his ambitious target of winning the Premier League in 2028 to mark the club's 150th anniversary despite a historically bad season for Ruben Amorim's team.
The 20-time English champions endured their worst top-flight campaign since they were relegated in 1973/74, finishing 15th, 42 points behind champions Liverpool.
They also lost the Europa League final to Tottenham, meaning they will have no European football next season.
Berrada told staff of his "Project 150" vision in September last year, setting out his aim to win the Premier League and the Women's Super League titles in 2028.
While United's men's team have a mountain to climb, the women's side, who have never won the WSL, will have to dislodge Chelsea, who have won the past six titles.
United finished third in the WSL, 16 points behind champions Chelsea, who also beat them in the FA Cup final.
But Berrada, formerly chief football operations officer at Manchester City, believes a double title success within three years is possible, despite the huge challenges.
"It's establishing a series of targets within a timeframe so we can focus our efforts and energy on that goal," he said in an interview with the United We Stand fanzine, to be published on Wednesday.
"Can the team win the Premier League title by 2028? Of course.
"We've just finished 15th and it seems an impossible task. But why not aim for it? Why not do everything in our power?"
United, in three years' time, will mark 150 years since the club were founded as Newton Heath in 1878.
They have not been crowned English champions since Alex Ferguson's final season in charge in 2012/13 but Berrada remains confident.
"I firmly believe we can do it," he said. "We have two or three summer windows to build a team to start competing to win the Premier League."

Probably the most important thing from the preparation point of view is what happened in Northampton. I'm a huge fan of K L Rahul (he scored a hundred there). I'm also a fan of him opening the batting. In all formats, his best position is right at the top of the order. I understand that he's been used in different roles along the way, but his experience of opening the batting in Test match cricket in England, scoring runs is so crucial. Now, there's just a little bit more opportunity, perhaps, for players to stake their claim in warm-up games. Karun Nair has clearly taken a chance to impress (with a double hundred for India A). Jaiswal has been a little short of his best form, if I'm honest. If I was an Indian player, Indian selector or Indian fan, I would want to see him with a little bit more form, ideally. But does that mean that I'm not going to pick him at the top of the order? No, I would definitely play him to open with K L Rahul. Sai Sudarshan, for me, he slots in at number three, Shubhman Gill at number four, and then you go from there. Sai is a very good player. He plays late. You'll hear that a lot during this series. Players that play the ball underneath their eyeline, by the front pad, not get out in front of you, follow the ball a little bit, play the early line, don't follow the line as it moves laterally… all those sorts of things which are key to being successful in English conditions. Would you have picked K L Rahul as captain, or have India made the right investment in Gill who is yet to prove himself with the bat in SENA countries? It's a pretty wise decision. Shubman is a shrewd cricketer. The question mark, with a decision like that would be, and maybe that's what you're alluding to, with reference to his own form and how he's going to cope with the captaincy based upon him being one of, if not the best player in the side. Do you see any technical issues in Gill's batting? Well, when I've been out in India (for IPL commentary), I always highlight the same thing, really. Sometimes with Shubman, more so when you're sort of a little lacking in confidence and striving for things a little bit for your form, sometimes that front leg just pushes across a little bit too much. And, therefore, the rotation of the body and accessing the ball and playing around that front pad. But of late, I haven't seen that quite so much, if I'm brutally honest. …But it becomes more important when you've got a left-armer coming over the wicket and swinging it back into the pads. That's something that he will probably be always aware of. That line outside off stump, again, will be the challenge for all these top-order players, particularly in England. Do you think India can cover for the loss of Rohit and Kohli in the near future? If there was ever a time for Indian cricket to cope with losing Rohit and Virat, it's now. I'm going to be brutally honest here. Shreyas Iyer should be here. That would have helped this transition a little bit more. But there's still plenty of ability there. We have spoken about the batting, what about India's bowling line-up? Last time India were over here, that bowling attack was phenomenal. And my view is, if India are going to win this series, the focus for me is a little bit more on the ball than the bat. Are India going to be able to get 20 wickets? I want to play Kuldeep as much as possible. If the ball is turning on day three, day four, Kuldeep plays. Mysuru-based biotech company ties up with firms in Italy and Oman for biodiesel production
Labland Biodiesel, a biotechnology company based in Mysuru, has announced its tie-up with companies in Italy and Oman to establish large-scale bioenergy crop plantations abroad for biodiesel production. The company has been engaged in bioenergy and plant tissue-culture for more than three decades. 'Backed by extensive research in Jatropha, a non-edible, high-yield biodiesel crop, Labland Biodiesel owns proprietary, high-performing seed varieties recognised globally,' said a statement. The partnership with an Italian firm, formalised in February 2025, has kickstarted with pilot plantations in Italy, Spain and Greece, targeting a total expansion of 10,000 acres in each country. 'The partnership will establish a robust supply chain network and collaborate with oil distribution companies in these countries,' the statement said. The agreement with Oman-based partner signed in September 2024 aims at developing plantations of Jatropha and other biofuel crops across the Middle East. The partnership includes joint research and development efforts to identify high-yield biofuel crops suited to the region, along with improvements in processing technology, waste utilisation, and carbon capture initiatives, the statement said. Emphasising the importance of biodiesel, which presents a cleaner and sustainable alternative to petroleum diesel, founder chairman of the Labland Group of Companies Sudheer Shetty said India imports 88.2% of 95 million tonnes of its projected diesel requirement for 2025-26. 'Our vision is to produce 1.5 million tonnes of biodiesel annually. 'We focus on developing plantations across 100,000 acres under Phase 1 with a projected outlay of ₹6,500 crore with an annual production capacity of 500 tonnes a day,' he said in the statement. Managing director of Labland Biodiesel Meghana Bhat said the project is expected to reduce carbon footprint. 'The company will play a major role in carbon capturing that could reshape the regional clean energy landscape. We are strengthening our clean energy capabilities with deeper technologies and production integration to tap the unlocked potential of carbon revenue,' she said in the statement. 'It focuses on improving the economics of biodiesel production. We have received a Letter of Intent for an investment of €500 million from a leading European firm. Further discussions are under way with government of Bahrain and companies in Kenya, Spain and Greece,' the statement added.

Irish Club Excluded From Conference League Due To Non-Compliance With UEFA's Multi-Club Rules
The Court of Arbitration for Sport dismissed Drogheda United's appeal against their exclusion from the Conference League by UEFA, due to non-compliance with regulations on multi-club ownership. The League of Ireland club, which won the FAI Cup last season, is owned by Trivela Group, a multi-club football organization that also holds a majority stake in Danish side Silkeborg. Both clubs qualified for the upcoming Conference League, creating a conflict with UEFA's regulations. According to the rules, the higher-ranked team, Silkeborg, will stay in the competition. Drogheda received notification of their removal last week and subsequently appealed to CAS but will miss out on European football for the first time since 2013. Drogheda mentioned their significant efforts to collaborate with UEFA to make the necessary ownership and governance changes to allow both clubs to compete. They also pointed out that rule changes, in their view, were inconsistently communicated and enforced. CAS determined that the change in assessment date was properly communicated by UEFA and that the club should have been aware of the change. CAS also rejected Drogheda's claims of unequal treatment by UEFA. In a statement, the club expressed strong disagreement with the decision, stating they had hoped for fairness and common sense to prevail. They described the decision as unjust, asserting that rules should protect opportunity rather than prevent it, while also accepting responsibility and apologising. Last season, UEFA permitted Manchester City and Girona to compete in the Champions League and Manchester United and Nice to participate in the Europa League, noting that investors had made necessary changes to avoid conflicts with the regulations. UEFA's Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) is currently investigating FA Cup winners Crystal Palace's participation in the Europa League, due to majority owner John Textor's involvement with Olympique Lyonnais, who also qualified for the competition. Last month, CAS rejected an appeal by Club Leon after the Mexican club was removed from the Club World Cup by FIFA for failing to comply with multi-club ownership regulations.
