Iowa Football Lands ACC Quarterback Transfer, Former Georgia Player of the Year

Yahoo26-04-2025
The Iowa Hawkeyes' passing game struggles have been well documented in recent years culminating in a tough season in that department last year.
The team's search for consistency and a strong performance at the quarterback position has led to a revolving door at the QB position in recent years with well known players Cade McNamara and Deacon Hill among those experiencing limited success before leaving town.

"Wake Forest transfer QB Jeremy Hecklinski has Committed to Iowa, he tells on3sports," reporter Hayes Fawcett said.
"The 6'0 190 (pound) QB will have 4 years of eligibility remaining 2023 MaxPreps Georgia POTY, MaxPreps National POTY Finalist, & was an Adidas All-American."
Hecklinski did not play a snap with the Demon Deacons last season and was ranked as a three-star prospect with an undisclosed NIL value.

The Marietta, Georgia native did not record a statistic with the Deacons last season in Wake Forest, North Carolin and will join offensive coordinator Tim Lester's team this coming season in the Big Ten.

Celtics legend gives honest opinion of WNBA star Caitlin Clark

Celtics legend gives honest opinion of WNBA star Caitlin Clark originally appeared on The Sporting News Boston Celtics point guard and NBA Hall of Famer Bob Cousy may have just turned 97 years old, but you can bet your last dollar he's still very invested in what's going on in the game that he loves. One of those instances being the superstardom of Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark, and how the popularity for women's basketball has seen a drastic increase since her collegiate days with the Iowa Hawkeyes, a phenomenon commonly called the "Caitlin Clark effect." Despite her talents, she has been seen as a polarizing figure in the sport, many of the other players seemingly jealous of the influence she has given the sport over the past couple years. And Cousy just simply doesn't understand why. 'She's had a tremendous impact on that league and their earning potential. They should be kissing the ground she walks on, not trying to foul her and get her out of the game," the Celtics legend said in an interview with Boston Globe's Dan Shaughnessy. 'It's a saleable product and she's done a really good job selling it. It's enjoyable. My son-in-law is from Indiana and he's a Clark fan. She's exceptional.' Though the Fever point guard has only played 13 games this year in an injury-plagued season, her rookie season in 2024 certainly proved that her first overall draft selection was no fluke, averaging 19.2 points per game and a WNBA-leading 8.4 assists per game.

2025 Iowa Football Predictions: Hawkeyes Ranked 29th in RJ Young's Ultimate 136

College Football 2025 Iowa Football Predictions: Hawkeyes Ranked 29th in RJ Young's Ultimate 136 Published Aug. 10, 2025 9:56 p.m. ET share facebook x reddit link This isn't your average college football ranking. My Ultimate 136 is a set of rankings that is fluid, but it's my job to look ahead and make a claim for all FBS teams based on what I know and why I know it. Here are the three pressing questions I started by asking when putting together this list: Who do I think is good? Why do I think they're good? What are the chances they will finish above or below my expectations? Here is a look at where Iowa lands in my Ultimate 136. Iowa ranking: 29 Last year's ranking: 24 Top player: DL Aaron Graves: Named to the Lott Trophy preseason award watch list, started all 13 games last season and finished with 6 sacks, 8 tackles for loss and 3 forced fumbles. [Iowa's 2025 schedule] RJ's take: The addition of former South Dakota State All-American quarterback and national championship QB Mark Gronowski is the best recruit Kirk Ferentz has ever had at the position. Gronowski has passed for over 10,000 yards, won the Walter Payton Award — best offensive player in the FCS — and is 49-6 as a starter. ADVERTISEMENT Hawkeyes fans have ached for a functional passing offense for nearly a decade, and they got a taste of that last year before Cade McNamara went down with injury. This year they'll get a QB who is not just a capable passer but a runner to pair with Phil Parker's annually tough defense. [ Check out RJ Young's Ultimate 136 College Football Rankings here ] Iowa Win Total Odds: Over 7.5 (+136) Under 7.5 (-168) Have an issue with my rankings? 2025 Wake Forest Football Predictions: Demon Deacons Ranked 77th in RJ Young's Ultimate 136

College Football 2025 Wake Forest Football Predictions: Demon Deacons Ranked 77th in RJ Young's Ultimate 136 Published Aug. 10, 2025 8:44 p.m. ET share facebook x reddit link This isn't your average college football ranking. Here are the three pressing questions I started by asking when putting together this list: Who do I think is good? Why do I think they're good? What are the chances they will finish above or below my expectations? Here is a look at where Wake Forest lands in my Ultimate 136. Team ranking: 77 Last year's ranking: 86 Top player: RB Demond Claiborne: Finished sixth in the ACC in rushing yards with 1,049 and tied for fifth in rush TDs with 11; selected to All-ACC Third Team last season as an RB and all-purpose player. [Wake Forest's 2025 schedule] RJ's take: Not even former coach Dave Clawson can finish 4-8 in back-to-back seasons and feel good about his future in the sport, especially when his success was predicated on slowly developing redshirt upperclassmen into damn good ball players. With the portal, NIL funding necessities and immediate eligibility now part of the sport, his system for success became as obsolete as the floppy disk. But incoming coach Jake Dickert cut his teeth as a change agent at Washington State at a desperate time for the folks in Pullman. He aims to do the same for a Demon Deacons program that might get left behind in a bloated ACC. ADVERTISEMENT I'm not at all sure what kind of juice journeyman QB Robby Ashford has left, but Karate Brenson and Reginald Vick are a couple of HBCU gems who will get open for him. Get to six wins someway, and call that a winning season. Wake Forest Win Total Odds: Over 4.5 (+118) Under 4.5 (-144) Have an issue with my rankings?
