Micron Eyes High-Teen DRAM Demand Growth: Is It Sustainable?
Micron Technology, Inc. MU forecasts industry DRAM bit demand to grow in the high-teen percentage range in 2025, mainly driven by the rising demand for AI-driven applications. The memory chip maker's DRAM revenues climbed 51% year over year and 15% sequentially to $7.1 billion and represented 76% of total sales in the third quarter of fiscal 2025. Record sales in the data center end market and accelerating High Bandwidth Memory ('HBM') adoption mainly drove DRAM revenues higher. The growing adoption of AI servers is reshaping the DRAM market as these systems require significantly more memory than traditional servers. This is boosting demand for both high-capacity DIMMs (Dual In-line Memory Module) and low-power server DRAM. Micron is capitalizing on this trend with its leadership in DRAM technology and a strong product roadmap that includes HBM4, slated for volume production in 2026. Tight supply conditions are another factor supporting the optimistic outlook for Micron's DRAM products. The company intends to keep non-HBM DRAM bit supply growth below industry demand to maintain pricing discipline and profitability. With AI adoption expanding across data center, mobile and automotive markets, Micron appears well-positioned to benefit from robust DRAM demand in the near term. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for fiscal 2025 indicates that DRAM revenues will soar approximately 59% year over year to $27.95 billion. How Do Micron's Rivals Stack Up in the Memory Chip Race? Although there are no U.S. stock exchange-listed direct competitors for MU in the memory chip space, Intel Corporation INTC and Broadcom Inc. AVGO play key roles in the HBM supply chain and AI hardware ecosystem. Intel is developing its AI accelerators that rely on high-performance memory like HBM. Although Intel doesn't manufacture HBM chips, its Gaudi AI chips will require a robust HBM supply, and any shift in memory partnerships could impact Micron's position. Meanwhile, Broadcom designs custom application-specific integrated circuits used in AI infrastructure that often include integrated HBM. As demand for Broadcom's AI chips grows, it could influence how HBM suppliers like Micron allocate their future supply. Micron's Price Performance, Valuation and Estimates Shares of Micron Technology have risen around 51.8% year to date compared with the Zacks Computer – Integrated Systems industry's gain of 27.4%. Image Source: Zacks Investment Research From a valuation standpoint, MU trades at a forward price-to-sales ratio of 3, lower than the industry's average of 3.72. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for Micron Technology's fiscal 2025 and 2026 earnings implies a year-over-year increase of approximately 497.7% and 57.9%, respectively. Estimates for fiscal 2025 and 2026 have been revised upward in the past 60 days. Image Source: Zacks Investment Research Micron Technology currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Buffalo Bills running back James Cook ends contract standoff, agrees to four-year deal
Bills running back James Cook has ended his contract standoff by signing a four-year deal, Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane said Wednesday. Article content Cook's deal will pay him $48 million over the four years, two people with knowledge of the agreement confirmed to The Associated Press. Article content Article content The contract includes $30 million in guaranteed money, one of the people said. They spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because financial details of the contract have not been announced. Article content Article content The Athletic first reported the agreement. Article content The new deal comes a day after the fourth-year player ended his weeklong standoff by returning to practice. Cook skipped four straight sessions and although he took part in warmups, he declined to play in Buffalo's preseason-opener against the New York Giants on Saturday. Article content 'I think there was good faith on both parts,' Beane said, noting an emphasis was placed on getting a deal done once Cook returned to practice Tuesday. Article content Cook was the NFL's co-leader with 16 touchdowns rushing last season. Article content Cook was selected by Buffalo in the second round of the 2022 draft out of Georgia. His older brother is Dalvin Cook, best known for his six seasons in Minnesota and who spent last year appearing in two games with Dallas. Article content Cook's 18 touchdowns, including two receiving, doubled his combined production in his first two seasons (four TDs rushing, five receiving). And he was part of an offense that finished second in the league in averaging more than 30 points per outing. Article content Article content Until Wednesday, Cook proved to be the odd-man out in general manager Brandon Beane's offseason binge of signing core players to multiyear contract extensions. The group was made up of quarterback Josh Allen, receiver Khalil Shakir, edge rusher Greg Rousseau, linebacker Terrel Bernard and cornerback Christian Benford. Article content In June, Cook said he didn't begrudge his teammates for getting extensions. Article content 'I love those guys. Whatever they got paid, they got paid. That's not my problem,' Cook said. 'In the meantime, I'm here to work and be where my feet are at.' Article content After practicing fully during the Bills' first eight sessions of training camp this year, Cook began his 'hold-in' on Aug. 3 by watching practice wearing a white sweatsuit along the sideline.

Is Costco Stock Worth Buying Now or Too Pricey to Touch?
Costco Wholesale Corporation COST, a prominent player in the membership-based retail sector, is currently trading at a forward 12-month price-to-earnings (P/E) multiple of 50, which positions it at a premium compared to the industry's average of 33.02 and the S&P 500's 22.62. However, the stock is trading marginally below its 12-month median P/E of 50.74. This suggests that although Costco is slightly cheaper than its recent historical average, it remains an expensive stock in a broader market context. This premium positioning is particularly noticeable when compared to peers like Ross Stores, Inc. ROST, Dollar General Corporation DG and Target Corporation TGT. While Ross Stores trades at a forward 12-month P/E multiple of 22.72, Dollar General and Target trade at 18.92 and 13.50, respectively. COST Valuation Picture Has Costco's Price Run Already Capped Its Upside? Despite the elevated valuation, investors have shown strong confidence in Costco, supported by its resilient business model, robust membership renewal rates and consistent traffic growth. The company's ability to deliver steady same-store sales gains and earnings resilience, even in a challenging retail environment, has helped sustain buying interest. As a result, the stock has jumped 8.2% so far this year, outperforming the industry's rise of 6.9%. During the same period, Costco has outperformed Ross Stores and Target but trailed Dollar General. Shares of Dollar General have surged 52%, while Ross Stores and Target have posted declines of 2.1% and 21.3%, respectively. COST, ROST, DG & TGT YTD Stock Performance Costco's Fundamentals Remain Robust — Yet Fully Valued Costco's resilient, membership-based business model remains a key engine of growth, underpinned by exceptionally high renewal rates and operational efficiency. In the third quarter of fiscal 2025, renewal rates stayed robust — 92.7% in the United States and Canada and 90.2% globally — reflecting strong customer loyalty. This, combined with Costco's bulk purchasing power and efficient supply chain, enables the company to maintain competitive pricing and withstand economic pressures better than many peers. Membership trends continue to support Costco's momentum. The company ended the third quarter with 79.6 million paid household members, marking a 6.8% increase year over year. Executive memberships, a more profitable category for Costco, grew 9% to reach 37.6 million, accounting for 47.3% of all paid members and driving 73.1% of global sales. Membership fee income climbed 10.4%, aided by a recent fee hike, which added approximately 4.6% growth in the quarter. By steadily enhancing its e-commerce capabilities and investing in fulfillment infrastructure, Costco is creating a more integrated omnichannel shopping experience. Its e-commerce comparable sales rose 14.8% in the third quarter. Costco Logistics deliveries surged 31%, driven by increasing volumes of large and bulky items. The launch of a Buy Now Pay Later program, in partnership with Affirm, has offered members greater purchasing flexibility, especially for higher-priced items. Meanwhile, Costco's disciplined focus on cost control, product mix optimization and growing penetration of its private-label brand, Kirkland Signature, continues to support margin expansion. Kirkland Signature sales outpaced overall company growth in the third quarter, with penetration rising 50 basis points year over year. The company continues to shift more Kirkland Signature sourcing to the regions where items are sold, helping reduce costs and mitigate tariff impacts. Competitive Landscape: Can Costco Stay Ahead? Costco's impressive sales figures are part of a larger retail picture where competition is intensifying. Rivals like Ross Stores, Dollar General and Target are investing in expanding their capabilities and enhancing customer experience. Moreover, margins remain a critical area to monitor, with potential concerns stemming from any deleverage in the selling, general and administrative rate. Additionally, foreign exchange volatility and tariffs on key imports create uncertainty. Meanwhile, consumer spending is shifting toward essentials, with discretionary spending seeing weaker demand. How Consensus Estimates Stack Up for Costco Over the past seven days, the Zacks Consensus Estimate for the current fiscal year has been stable at $17.97. However, for the next fiscal year, the consensus estimate has decreased by a penny to $19.92. These estimates indicate expected year-over-year growth rates of 11.6% and 10.9%, respectively. COST: A Quality Stock but a Hold for Now Costco's strong fundamentals, including a growing membership base, solid e-commerce sales and strategic investments, continue to support its market leadership. While the stock's premium valuation warrants caution, its resilient business model offers a compelling case for long-term investors. The prudent move for investors may be to hold existing positions rather than chase the stock at its current highs. Waiting for a better entry point could offer a more favorable risk-reward balance. Costco currently has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). You can see the complete list of today's Zacks #1 Rank (Strong Buy) stocks here.
