Qi Card and Turkish Airlines Partner on Co-Branded Debit Card for Iraq
Qi Card, Iraq's largest digital payments provider, and Turkish Airlines have signed an agreement in Istanbul to launch a co-branded Mastercard debit card for Iraqi consumers. The initiative will connect 11 million Qi Card users in Iraq to Turkish Airlines' Miles&Smiles rewards programme, allowing them to integrate their daily spending with travel benefits. Miles&Smiles, which has more than 20 million members and 31 bank partnerships in over 50 countries, offers rewards that can be redeemed across 353 destinations in 131 countries via Turkish Airlines and its Star Alliance partners. The new card will enable Iraqi consumers to earn rewards through everyday transactions, with benefits including seat upgrades, access to business lounges, fast-track services, and bonus mile offers. Bahaa Abdul Hadi, Chairman of International Smart Card (Qi Card), said: 'This partnership reflects our shared vision of enriching everyday experiences through smarter financial tools and aspirational travel rewards. We are excited to offer Iraqis a globally accepted, loyalty-driven product that rewards them for how they spend.' The card will be fully integrated with Qi Card's national infrastructure and mobile platform, and can be used worldwide where Mastercard is accepted. Kuwait Allows Visa-on-Arrival for GCC Residents
Foreign residents in GCC member states can now receive a visa on arrival when entering Kuwait, according to the Ministry of Interior. This new policy applies to holders of valid residency permits from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Oman, Qatar, and Bahrain. Previously, these travelers were required to secure an e-visa before departure. Kuwait International Airport confirmed that eligible GCC residents — except Iraqi nationals — may obtain a three-month tourist visa at the airport's visa counter. To qualify, travelers must work in approved professions such as doctors, engineers, journalists, pilots, managers, business owners, and other specified roles. They must also hold a valid passport, a GCC residency permit with more than six months' validity, a return ticket, and must not be on Kuwait's blacklist. Applicants are also required to register their address in Kuwait during the visa application process at the airport. The change takes immediate effect. In July 2025, Kuwait launched a nationwide e-visa platform covering various visa types, and a unified GCC tourist visa — allowing travel to all six member countries — is expected to be introduced soon.

Iraq, Syria discuss revival of Banias pipeline for oil exports
12 Aug 2025 23:08 BAGHDAD (AGENCIES)Iraq and Syria have agreed to study the possibility of reactivating the Banias pipeline to export Iraqi oil through Syrian agreement was reached during talks held Tuesday in Baghdad between Hayan Abdul-Ghani Al-Sawad, Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil of Iraq, and Mohammed Bashir, Minister of Energy of discussions resulted in a decision to form a joint committee to examine the condition of the pipeline and assess the feasibility of resuming exports through it, with a proposal to engage an international consultant to determine the pipeline's operational readiness, pumping systems, and the viability of to a statement by the Ministry of Oil, carried by the Iraqi News Agency, Al Sawad said that Iraq has achieved significant progress in gas investment and oil refining, and aims to increase export capacities from its southern outlets, resume exports through the Turkish pipeline via the port of Ceyhan, and study proposals for exports via the Syrian Banias pipeline and Lebanon's Tripoli Iraqi minister also referred to the Basra–Haditha pipeline project, stating that it will have a capacity of 2.25 million barrels, and will secure export volumes through the Syrian pipeline. Iraq earlier dispatched a high-level delegation to Damascus in April to assess the feasibility of reviving the Iraq-Syria oil pipeline, a move Baghdad is counting on to diversify export routes amid expanding production capacity.
