Red Sox News & Links: We've got beef between Walker Buehler and Francisco Lindor!

Yahoo21-05-2025

Walker Buehler's ejection on Tuesday night was not ideal for multiple reasons. A team that used four relievers on Monday night had to use all four of the same relievers on Tuesday, and then some. Justin Wilson, Greg Weissert, Justin Slaten, and Aroldis Chapman all threw zeroes on the board on back-to-back days. If that means the team is shorthanded going for the sweep on Garrett Crochet Day, it was worth it to ensure a series win against the Mets. Buehler took to Twitter to express his appreciation, with Francisco Lindor catching some strays for celebrating his ejection from second base.
Alex Cora got an early exit moments later, which led to his destruction of the bullpen phone, a phone that has a storied history in Red Sox ejection lore. Rob Bradford discusses that here, as well as Tanner Houck's home run celebration that followed.

Marcelo Mayer described playing second base as feeling 'normal and natural,' and hitting coach Doug Clark said, 'I think we're talking moments away' from a call-up. With internal options working out at first base, we should see some reinforcements coming up soon.

Speaking of Mayer, a couple of major leaguer comparisons are in Christopher Smith's prospect roundup. He also has updates the Garcia brothers; Jhostynxon homered in his triple-A debut and Johanfran returned from a year hiatus with a knee injury.

Juan Soto was 'impressed' by the presentation the Red Sox gave him in the offseason before choosing to go another direction. 'They really were right there. They were at the top of the list.'

As the recent We Tried winners (in a landslide), it's no surprise to see how hard they tried.

Juan Soto Sends Message After Having Words With Nationals Pitcher

Juan Soto Sends Message After Having Words With Nationals Pitcher originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It's been nearly three years since New York Mets slugger Juan Soto played for the Washington Nationals, but he is forever cemented in the latter club's lore. The four-time All-Star signed with it as an international free agent in 2015, and it developed him into a future Hall of Famer. Advertisement The Nationals called up a 19-year-old Soto in May 2018, making him the league's youngest player at the time. The five-time Silver Slugger led them to their first-ever World Series title just one season later, slashing .277/.373/.554 with five homers and 14 RBI over 17 playoff games. Washington then traded Soto and Josh Bell to the San Diego Padres in August 2022 for CJ Abrams, MacKenzie Gore, Robert Hassell, James Wood, Jarlin Susana, and Luke Voit. Fast-forward to Tuesday, and Soto smacked a 373-foot solo homer to left center off of Gore in the third inning of the Mets-Nationals game. The 26-year-old shared what he said to Gore as he rounded the bases, via Anthony DiComo. New York Mets outfielder Juan Soto (26).Gary A. Vasquez-Imagn Images "We were saying hi to each other. That's it," he insisted. Advertisement New York won the game 5-4 after Jeff McNeil's walk-off double in the 10th inning. Soto finished the contest 2-for-4 with the homer, two RBI, and two runs scored. The 6-foot-1-inch, 224-pounder is now slashing .248/.386/.454 with 12 home runs and 33 RBI across 66 games. The Mets are five games ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies for first place in the NL East and a half-game behind the Detroit Tigers for baseball's best record. Pedro Martínez's Latest Comments Leave Red Sox Fans in Disbelief

Pedro Martínez's Latest Comments Leave Red Sox Fans in Disbelief originally appeared on Athlon Sports. As the late Don Zimmer knows all too well, Pedro Martínez wore a Boston Red Sox uniform when their rivalry with the New York Yankees truly mattered. Advertisement Over two decades after his final Yankees-Red Sox game, Martínez has no problems praising the Bronx Bombers when credit is due. However, the Hall of Fame pitcher left his devoted fans flabbergasted with his analysis during Tuesday's Yankees-Kansas City Royals game. 'The thing that impresses me the most is how the Yankees [present] themselves,' Martínez wrote on Twitter/X. 'The culture that they have,' Martínez added. 'It's a presence unlike anybody else. It must be the pinstripes.' Boston Red Sox pitcher Pedro Martínez in 1998RVR Photos-Imagn Images Did someone at the TBS studios in Georgia steal Martínez's phone? Has he finally seen the light, and he'll report to Yankee Stadium this summer in a replica Derek Jeter jersey? Advertisement Either way, Red Sox fans aren't thrilled with their longtime ace. 'Did I just read a tweet where Pedro is talking good about the Yankees???' one fan wrote. Added another: ' me, WHAT? Is Pedro heavily medicated right now? This is not the Pedro I remember.' Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Pedro Martinez in 2019Jasen Vinlove-Imagn Images Plenty of Yankees fans, understandably, welcomed Martínez to their fanbase. Evidently, all is forgiven when a Red Sox great praises a team for their 'presence.' 'Blink twice if you're in danger,' an X/Twitter user quipped. 'We are living in the End Times,' another fan bemoaned.
