Fresh Covid case in Lucknow, patient isolated
Lucknow: State capital witnessed another Covid-19 case on Wednesday. A 37-year-old man from BBD Green City, Ayodhya Road, recently tested positive. The patient is currently isolated at home.
According to chief medical officer Dr N B Singh, there are six confirmed Covid-19 cases in the city, of which four remain active.
Earlier, confirmed cases included a 60-year-old man who returned from Uttarakhand, a 53-year-old woman from Ruchikhand, Aashiana, a 68-year-old man from Daliganj, a 20-year-old man from Vishwas Khand, Gomtinagar and a 53-year-old man from Nazirganj who tested positive last Tuesday.

Karnataka reports two more Covid-related deaths, pushing tally to 9
Bengaluru, Karnataka registered two more Covid-related deaths on Saturday, pushing the tally to nine in the state, said health department officials. A 46-year-old man from Ballari and a 78-year-old man from Belagavi, who were admitted for Severe Acute Respiratory Infections, passed away on June 5. Both had tested positive for Covid-19, said a bulletin from the health department. On Saturday, the state reported 57 new cases , chalking the cumulative tally for the year to 894. PTI

Active Covid cases in India cross 6,000-mark
New Delhi, India's active Covid case tally crossed the 6,000 mark with 769 new infections being reported in the last 48 hours, according to the Union health ministry data released on Sunday. Kerala continues to be the most affected state, followed by Gujarat, West Bengal and Delhi, according to the ministry. Due to the rising Covid cases, the Centre is conducting mock drills to check facility-level preparedness and has instructed all states to ensure availability of oxygen, isolation beds, ventilators, and essential medicines, official sources had said. There are 6,133 active Covid cases in India , and six more deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours, the ministry said. Official sources have maintained that most cases are mild and managed under home care. Since January this year, 65 deaths have been reported in the country. There were a total of 257 active patients in the country on May 22. A series of technical review meetings were held on June 2 and 3 under the chairpersonship of Dr Sunita Sharma, Director General of Health Services, to evaluate the Covid situation and preparedness measures. Representatives from the Disaster Management Cell, Emergency Management Response Cell, National Centre for Disease Control, Indian Council of Medical Research, Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme, central government hospitals in Delhi, and all states and Union Territories were part of the meeting. Official sources on June 4 said state and district surveillance units under the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme are closely monitoring Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI). "Testing is recommended for all admitted SARI cases and 5 per cent of ILI cases as per guidelines, and positive SARI samples are sent for Whole Genome Sequencing through the ICMR VRDL network, " an official source said. Padmanabhaswamy Temple performs rare 'Maha Kumbhabhishekam' after 270 years
Thiruvananthapuram, Hundreds of devotees on Sunday thronged the famous Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Kerala to witness Maha Kumbhabhishekam held at the shrine after 270 years. This grand consecration took place following the recent completion of long-overdue renovation work at this ancient temple. Dedication of "thazhikakudams", , the reinstallation of the Vishwaksena idol, and the 'Ashtabandha Kalasam' at the Thiruvambady Sree Krishna Temple were held in the morning, temple sources said. "The rituals were performed by priests during the auspicious time between 7.40 am to 8.40 am on Sunday," they said. The rituals began after Moolam Thirunal Rama Varma, the present head of the Travancore royal family, offered prayers at the shrine. In the presence of Varma and other royal family members, the tantri first carried out the "Ashtabandha Kalasam" at the Thiruvambady Temple. Later, the reinstallation of the Vishwaksena idol was held by 8.00 am, temple sources said. The Vishwaksena idol, renovated and reinstalled now, is about 300 years old and was built in "katu sarkara yogam", a traditional method involving a unique combination of materials to create idols. After that reinstallation, the tantries and priests, accompanied by the royal family head, moved as a procession for the dedication of the domes as devotees chanted "narayana" mantras. Temple authorities made elaborate arrangements including the setting up of video walls on all the four entrances of the shrine for devotees to catch a glimpse of the rare ritual. Long queues of devotees could be seen since early morning at the temple entrances. Kerala Governor Vishwanath Rajendra Arlekar was present at the shrine to witness the rare ritual throughout, they added. Various rituals, including Acharya Varanam, Prasada Shuddhi, Dhara, Kalasam, and others, were held at the shrine in various days in the last week ahead of the "Maha Kumbhabhishekam". Temple authorities said that the objective of the Maha Kumbhabhishekam is to reinforce spiritual energy and reawaken the sanctity of the shrine. Such a comprehensive renovation and the accompanying rituals were held at the centuries-old shrine after a gap of over 270 years, and it is unlikely to occur again in the next several decades, they said. The renovation had been carried out as per the directive of the Supreme Court-appointed expert panel in 2017. Though the work began soon after, it could not progress much further due to the COVID situation, they said. Later, various renovation works were completed in a phased manner from 2021 onwards, they added. The name of Kerala capital is closely tied to the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, where Lord Vishnu is enshrined in a reclining posture on serpent God 'Anantha'. The city grew around this temple and took its name from the deity worshipped there.
