Actor Brad Pitt stars as a washed up Formula One driver who gets one last shot at redemption in F1: The Movie.
LONDON - Brad Pitt's F1 movie is topping the box office charts worldwide but the Hollywood A-lister is not done with Formula One, or racing.
Like his fictional big screen character Sonny Hayes, Pitt has been offered a second chance to don race overalls and lap at 322kmh.
McLaren F1 chief executive Zak Brown told Reuters on July 2 that Pitt had a standing offer to 'come out and play' – and expected the 61-year-old not only to take him up on it but also take his passion for racing further.
Pitt drove a Formula One car for the first time with McLaren at Austin's Circuit of the Americas in June, after driving F2 cars disguised as F1 cars for the movie, and has been raving about the experience ever since.
He did have one regret, however.
'Ask me how fast I went. Three mph short of 200mph (322kmh),' Pitt said, at the New York premiere. 'I want to go back. I want to hit 200.'
Brown indicated that it could be arranged.
'He did a great job, he can drive a race car,' he said, at a McLaren event for the team's army of fans in London's Trafalgar Square, with title-chasing drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris.
'I've traded notes with him, it was the time of his life. I feel like he's a racer now, so anytime he wants to come out and play he's more than welcome to. And that's a standing offer.'

When asked if he expected Pitt to take him up on it, Brown replied: 'I wouldn't be surprised looking at the level of enthusiasm that he had. I sent him his data, he wanted to understand and learn. So yeah, I bet he will.'
'I wouldn't be surprised if one day you saw Brad Pitt racing some sort of sports car,' said Brown.
'Paul Newman always used to say he was a racing driver, and an actor in his spare time.
"He (Pitt) is clearly in good physical shape. He had no physical limitations."
Pitt would not be the first Hollywood heartthrob to go racing for real.
Patrick Dempsey, star of medical drama Grey's Anatomy, has raced Porsches at Le Mans as did the late Paul Newman, who also founded Newman/Haas Racing. REUTERS

O'Brien forms a back three with wing Jacob Stockdale and full-back Jimmy O'Brien, with Stuart McCloskey and Jamie Osborne chosen as the centre pairing. Sam Prendergast is at flyhalf and scrumhalf Craig Casey will captain the side for the first time. Gus McCarthy packs down at hooker with props Jack Boyle and Thomas Clarkson either side of him, while Cormac Izuchukwu and Murray are in the second row and number eight Gavin Coombes forms a loose-forward trio with Ryan Baird and Nick Timoney. There are a further four uncapped players on the bench in props Michael Milne and Jack Aungier, lock Tom Ahern and scrumhalf Ben Murphy. "Saturday's game presents an exciting opportunity for this group of players," O'Connell said. "Craig has taken to captaincy impressively. He's going to relish leading his country and I know how keen he is to make his mark alongside the rest of the players. "Though light in terms of international caps in some areas, there's also a nice blend of experience in the squad." Ireland have won all five previous tests they have played against Georgia. REUTERS/Jaimi Joy/File Photo SYDNEY - The Australian government has confirmed it will contribute A$3.435 billion ($2.25 billion) towards the A$7.1 billion cost of building the venues for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics, clearing the way for the start of construction. Queensland taxpayers and private finance will provide the balance of the money for the 17 new and upgraded venues for the Summer Games under the funding deal announced by state and federal governments on Thursday. "The Sydney 2000 Games left an incredible legacy and many Australians have memories that have lasted for decades," Federal Infrastructure Minister Catherine King said in a statement. "We are ready to deliver a Brisbane 2032 games that will leave the same incredible legacy for Queensland. "The Australian government's commitment of A$3.4 billion towards the Games venues is the single largest contribution any Australian government has made towards sporting infrastructure in this country." Brisbane was awarded hosting rights for the Games in 2021 but political wrangling over the venues meant the final plans were not decided until March this year. Organising committee chief Andrew Liveris welcomed Thursday's announcement as a "significant shift in forward momentum". Top stories Swipe. Select. Stay informed. LOS ANGELES – Teenage Olympic champion skateboarder Arisa Trew has made history by winning more gold medals in the X Games summer disciplines than any other woman and told Reuters she has no intention of slowing down. The 15-year-old Australian beamed a wide smile as she was mobbed by her fellow competitors at the top of the ramp after winning the vert best trick competition in thrilling fashion for her eighth X Games gold medal on Saturday. 'I was really happy when I landed my kickflip body varial 540 in the best trick competition because that was my first one since my knee injury at the start of the year,' she said in an interview this week. 'And it was really fun because they all ran up and were super stoked and congratulating me.' The memorable moment recalled her performance at the Paris Games last summer, where she became Australia's youngest Olympic champion by reaching the top of the park skateboarding podium. Trew credits her skateboarding journey to her early introduction to skateparks at around age seven by her father. She noted that sharing the sport with friends boosted her skills and passion, saying, 'I feel like I only started to get good when more girls started skating because it gave me people to skate with, to push off of, and to just have fun with.' Trew's ambition grew when she landed her first 540 - a trick where a skater completes 1-1/2 rotations while airborne. 'There weren't many girls doing 540s, and I thought that was really cool,' she said. This achievement fueled her desire to compete and master new tricks, with the goal of skating alongside other elite female competitors at events like the X Games and the Olympics. 'I wanted to be there skating with them,' she said. Looking ahead, Trew, who grew up on the Gold Coast in Queensland and spends time training in the U.S., is set to defend her Olympic title at the Los Angeles Games in 2028 at age 18 and plans to compete again in Brisbane four years later. Despite her future plans, she remains focused on each event, with Tony Hawk's Vert Alert in Salt Lake City later this month the next on her schedule. 'I just like try to get better every time because there are definitely a lot of improvements I need to make at each competition,' she said. REUTERS
