Pickup truck driver remanded over viral highway crash that injured couple
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa confirmed the incident, which was captured in a video uploaded by the Facebook page "DashCam Malaysia."
"The accident took place on May 10, around 2.30pm, along the NSE heading towards the city centre, just before the Duta toll plaza," he said in a statement today.
He said the crash involved a Benelli TRK 502 motorcycle and a Nissan Navara.
"Investigations found that the motorcycle was moving straight in the left lane when the Nissan Navara, believed to be attempting to overtake another motorcycle, failed to avoid the victims and struck them from the right."
As a result of the collision, both the rider and pillion were thrown off the motorcycle and sustained injuries.
"The rider, a 53-year-old Malay man, suffered a fractured collarbone and injuries to his ankle.
"His wife, aged 49, sustained more serious injuries including brain bleeding, a fractured ankle, and broken ribs on the right side," he said.
Both victims were rushed to Hospital Sungai Buloh for treatment.
The driver of the Nissan Navara, a 32-year-old man, was unhurt in the incident and has since lodged a police report.
"A remand order was obtained, and the suspect is currently being held at the Dang Wangi lockup for two days to assist investigations," Sarifudin said.
The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.
Police are calling for eyewitnesses to come forward to aid the investigation.
"Anyone who witnessed the incident is urged to contact the investigating officer Inspector Muhammad Farhad Kamaruddin, at 011-31903054."

Knife-wielding woman arrested after ramming motorcycles, hurting six in Kajang
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested a 24-year-old foreign woman who allegedly drove recklessly, crashed into three motorcycles, and attacked road users with a knife in Bandar Kajang today. The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years' imprisonment if convicted. Investigations are also being conducted under Section 279 of the Penal Code for reckless driving, which is punishable with up to six months' jail or a fine not exceeding RM2,000, and under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving, which carries a maximum penalty of a RM10,000 fine and 12 months' jail. Naazron urged those with information about the case to contact the nearest police station or investigating officer Inspector Nursyaza Farhah Samhairi at 017-691 9817.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, he said numerous complaints had been received regarding misconduct and illegal activities at several tourist locations, which could affect the industry's safety reputation. He recently led a joint inspection operation in Tawau involving his ministry's licensing and enforcement division, the Immigration Department, police, and other agencies. The two-day operation included checks on 30 tourist buses and vehicles, 15 tourism business premises, 40 boats, and four jetties, resulting in summonses for nine offences. Findings revealed that some companies, appearing locally owned, were operated by foreign investors, including those from China, and were involved in unlicensed activities such as operating water chalets, aquaculture, and homestays on agricultural or farming land. Tiong urged local authorities to take swift action against unlicensed operators and stressed that while foreign investment is welcome, it must comply fully with Malaysian laws and regulations.
