Eyes filled with tears on seeing Kashmir getting connected with the rail network: Farooq

Srinagar, June 10 (UNI) National Conference President and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Farooq Abdullah, on Tuesday travelled on the recently inaugurated Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express along with other leaders and party MLAs.
After the train ride, an emotional Abdullah said his heart was overwhelmed and his eyes filled with tears on seeing Kashmir finally getting connected with the rail network of the country.
Abdullah boarded the train from Srinagar Railway Station to Katra early Tuesday and expressed his admiration for the train.
"I am very happy to be travelling on this train to Katra. It is one of the biggest benefits for us,' said the former Chief Minister.
Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the two semi-high-speed trains connecting the Valley with Jammu's Katra town began operations on June 7. Since their inauguration, the trains have gained immense popularity among locals, pilgrims, and tourists, with bookings already at full capacity. Vande Bharat Express trains run between Srinagar and Katra via Banihal six days a week, except Wednesday.
Abdullah emphasized that the Vande Bharat service offers a much-needed alternative to the Srinagar-Jammu highway, which is often unreliable due to landslides and weather-related disruptions.
'The road gets closed frequently, and airfares shoot up during such times. This train will spare people from those difficulties,' he said.
Abdullah also noted that the train service will positively impact the tourism sector and the region's horticulture industry.
J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's sons, Zamir and Zahir, J&K Minister Satish Sharma, Chief Minister's advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, and National Conference Chief Spokesperson and MLA Tanvir Sadiq also accompanied Abdullah on his train ride.
At Katra railway station, Abdullah called the train the biggest gift for the people as it will also strengthen "love and friendship" between the two regions.
He congratulated all the workers and engineers who built the world's highest bridge on the Srinagar-Katra train link.

Omar Abdullah: Israeli attack totally unjustified

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday said Israel's attack on Iran was 'totally unjustified'. 'As far as I know, Iran did not give any reason to Israel to carry out attacks on it. Israel, of its own will, waged war against the country, calling it a preemptive attack,' Abdullah told reporters here. If the world powers remain silent on Israel's aggression, it would be 'very unfortunate', Abdullah said. 'Today, Israel did what Russia did with Ukraine. You raise your voice against Russia, and a movement starts against Russia, but when Israel attacks Iran, the world powers — be it the US, Europe, or any other country — fall silent. J&K's head cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq condemned Israel's attack on Iran, saying it has become a 'rogue state'. 'While perpetuating genocide on hapless Palestinians and getting away with it, Israel is now putting the whole of Middle East in peril. It has become a rogue state and a huge threat to world peace,' he told the Friday congregation at Jamia Masjid. He called upon the UN and world leaders to put pressure on Israel to stop the 'genocide' and war in Gaza and prevent it from 'targeting other nations'. Mirwaiz Farooq, who was delivering his first Friday sermon since Eid, also said that the J&K Lieutenant Governor should explain Eid prayer bans.

DGCA orders additional maintenance checks for Air India's B787 aircraft

New Delhi, June 13 (UNI) The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Friday issued a directive mandating urgent additional maintenance checks for Air India's B787-8/9 fleet equipped with Genx engines. The directions were issued in the wake of the recent accident involving an Air India Boeing B787-800 aircraft operating flight AI-171 from Ahmedabad to Gatwick on June 12. In an order issued here, the aviation regulator stated that, as a preventive measure, the DGCA has directed Air India to carry out additional maintenance actions on Boeing 787-8/9 aircraft equipped with Genx engines, in coordination with the concerned regional DGCA offices. These measures will come into effect from June 15, the order said. The DGCA stated that, as part of aircraft maintenance and pre-flight drills, inspections must be carried out for fuel parameter monitoring and related system checks, cabin air compressor and associated systems, electronic engine control system testing, engine fuel-driven actuator operation testing, oil system inspection, and serviceability checks of the hydraulic system. In addition, a review of the flight readiness parameters should be conducted, and a 'flight control inspection' must be included in the transit checks until further notice. A power assurance check should be carried out within two weeks, and maintenance actions on Boeing 787-8/9 aircraft must be ensured at the earliest based on a review of recurring faults observed over the past 15 days. The DGCA stated that the complete report of the above-mentioned inspections must be submitted to the DGCA for review. UNI RBE GNK
