Israeli Forces Seize Donkeys from Gaza, France Welcomes Them as Symbols of Compassion

DayofPal– The Israeli army has been systematically seize donkeys from Gaza during the recent war and coordinated with animal welfare groups to receive them, according to Israel's state channel Kan.
The captured donkeys, vital to Gazans as primary transportation in the fuel-starved enclave, were flown out of occupied territories and subsequently received with fanfare by French and Belgian animal sanctuaries.
During the war, donkeys played a crucial role in Gaza's daily life, where fuel shortages due to Israel's ongoing blockade have rendered motor vehicles largely unusable.
The animals became emblematic of civilian resilience, even inspiring a local festival honoring them with red carpets, flowers, and decorations amid the rubble.
But beneath the surface of these heartfelt celebrations, Israeli soldiers carried out operations that Kan described as 'rescue missions' for 'neglected or sick' donkeys in areas of Gaza under occupation.
In many video footage shows military personnel gathering dozens of these animals, actions that international law categorizes as the seizure of civilian property during armed conflict, a potential war crime.
The donkeys were taken to a rehabilitation farm near Tel Aviv called 'Starting Over Sanctuary,' managed by activist Sharon Cohen. She describes the animals as traumatized and fearful, requiring special care.
However, the sanctuary holds no legal ownership papers, maintains no communication with Gaza's owners, and ignores ethical or legal responsibilities to the Palestinian communities from which the animals were taken.
On May 18, 2025, the first shipment of 58 donkeys was airlifted from Ben Gurion Airport to Liège, Belgium, before being distributed to shelters in France and Belgium.
The operation was managed by Israeli air cargo firm Orien Cargo and international groups including Network for Animals, run by Gloria Davis and Shannon Edwards.
Among the receiving shelters is the French 'La Tanière, Zoo Refuge' near Chartres, which publicly welcomed the donkeys as symbols of 'compassion and civilization.'
Yet the original narrative of these animals being Palestinian-owned and forcibly taken amid siege and bombardment is erased. Instead, the donkeys are portrayed as survivors of hardship, sanitized of their political and human context.
This phenomenon is not limited to Gaza. Kan also reported on donkeys taken from the occupied West Bank city of Hebron, under the pretext of poor animal care.
Despite no active fighting or infrastructure damage in the area, Palestinian farmers lost their animals, which were transferred to the same Israeli rehabilitation farm, revealing a consistent pattern of confiscation beyond wartime exigencies.
What appears on Israeli media as a humanitarian rescue, donkeys eating carrots, veterinarians providing care, European sanctuaries extending a warm welcome, is, in reality, part of a larger mechanism of occupation: systematic theft of Palestinian civilian property, cloaked in a veneer of compassion, and amplified politically by Western institutions.

Israel Blocks 22k Aid Trucks as Gaza Famine Worsens

DaysofPale- As famine deepens across the Gaza Strip, the Israeli occupation continues to block more than 22,000 humanitarian aid trucks from entering the besieged territory, according to the Government Media Office in Gaza. In a statement issued Sunday, GMO stated the Israeli occupation is deliberately engineering 'starvation, siege, and chaos' by preventing the entry of essential aid. It added that the trucks, which have accumulated at Gaza's border crossings, belong mostly to international and UN agencies and contain food, medicine, and fuel needed to sustain more than 2.4 million people trapped in the Strip. 'This is a systematic policy aimed at worsening the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza. The Israeli occupation is committing a war crime by withholding aid and intensifying the siege,' the GMO statement said. The media office called for the immediate, safe, and unconditional entry of all detained aid trucks and for the full reopening of crossings to ensure a continuous flow of relief. It also held the Israeli occupation and the international community, particularly those complicit through silence, fully responsible for the deepening crisis. The reality of starvation among the population in Gaza remains dire. On Saturday, just 36 trucks managed to enter Gaza, far below the minimum daily need of 600 trucks, and many of them were looted amid ongoing chaos as Gaza's infrastructure has collapsed under the weight of war, siege, and starvation. Since March, the Israeli occupation has imposed a near-total blockade, closing all border crossings and cutting off humanitarian access. Famine has already killed at least 175 people, including 93 children, according to Gaza's Health Ministry. 'The aid that does make it in doesn't begin to address the catastrophic hunger crisis. People are dying, and the situation grows more desperate each day,' the media office warned. The statement concludes with an urgent appeal to the international community to pressure Israel into complying with international humanitarian law and to act before it is too late to save lives. In'tel NGO: Most of Israeli War Crimes Investigations Closed Without Charges

DaysofPal- An international watchdog has accused the Israeli occupation of systematically closing the majority of its war crimes investigations related to the ongoing war in Gaza without holding anyone accountable, raising serious concerns over a culture of impunity. According to a report by Action on Armed Violence (AOAV), published by The Guardian, nearly 90% of the investigations launched by the Israeli military since October 2023 have either been closed without outcome or are still pending without resolution, despite credible evidence of civilian massacres. Among the incidents cited are a February 2024 massacre in Gaza, where Israeli occupation forces targeted civilians waiting in line for flour, killing 112 Palestinians, and a May 2024 airstrike on a refugee camp in Rafah that left 45 people dead. While the Israeli military claims that 'most investigations are still ongoing,' AOAV challenged this claim, saying that the Israeli response lacks transparency and meaningful accountability. 'Every complaint is reviewed, and in some cases, a military police investigation is launched,' the Israeli occupation forces claimed. However, out of 52 publicly acknowledged incidents, which resulted in the deaths of 1,303 Palestinians and the injury of nearly 1,880 others in Gaza and the West Bank, only one case has led to a conviction; a soldier was sentenced to seven months for assaulting detainees. The report also criticized the handling of the April 2024 airstrike that killed seven staff members of World Central Kitchen, a humanitarian aid group. Israel described the strike as a 'grave mistake,' but AOAV raised doubts over the credibility of the rapid internal investigation that followed. As of June 2025, 46 investigations remain open, including four cases from last month when Palestinians were killed while waiting for humanitarian aid. AOAV warns that the delay and lack of transparency in these probes reflect a wider failure to address war crimes. 'The pattern is clear: Israel has consistently avoided serious accountability for grave violations,' AOAV said in its statement. 'The international community must step in to ensure justice for victims, as domestic mechanisms have failed.' It added. The AOAV statements come amid growing calls for international investigations and legal action at the International Criminal Court, as civilian casualties in Gaza continue to mount in what rights groups have described as a humanitarian catastrophe. WP Reports: Israeli Gunfire and Looting Deepen Gaza's Starvation Crisis

DaysofPal-The Washington Post 'WP' has highlighted the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza, noting that the Israeli military gunfire and widespread looting are severely obstructing the delivery of vital food aid to a starving population. In a detailed report released Sunday, the newspaper described chaotic scenes at aid distribution points, where starving civilians face ongoing risks of violence and gunfire by Israeli occupation forces. Despite the recent Israeli claims of easing restrictions on food supplies amid growing international pressure, aid convoys continue to encounter bureaucratic hurdles, looting, and gunfire by Israeli occupation forces. United Nations officials warn that these conditions perpetuate a 'worst-case famine scenario,' with only a fraction of aid reaching those in desperate need. Gaza's Ministry of Health reports at least 154 deaths due to malnutrition since the conflict began, most occurring in July. The report quotes Jeremy Konyandik, head of the International Refugee Organization, who says the current aid disruptions are 'an inevitable consequence' of the Israeli blockade imposed this spring, amid ongoing genocide. Adding to the crisis, a former Israeli military official admitted to a 'complete system collapse' due to the ongoing military campaign, noting rampant looting by gangs and desperate civilians alike. While some international aid has been delivered by air, officials caution that these efforts fall far short of addressing the widespread hunger. Further complicating aid delivery, the Israeli occupation has restricted convoy routes, closing 80% of Gaza's territory as military zones, forcing aid convoys through just two congested corridors, where late convoy movements and crowding have increased risks of theft and violence. The Washington Post calls on Israeli authorities to honor prior commitments to open additional crossings and remove military presence from aid routes to alleviate Gaza's dire humanitarian conditions.
