SHAH ALAM: Police have identified the owner of a Proton Saga involved in a viral incident where an 11-year-old child was believed to be driving. The car skidded at Jalan Telok Gong, Klang, yesterday morning.
South Klang police chief ACP Ramli Kasa confirmed that the young driver and two other children, aged seven and a Malaysian cousin, were traced. The 11-year-old and the seven-year-old are siblings and UNHCR cardholders.
Initial investigations revealed that the mother had driven the car from Bandar Sultan Suleiman to her sister's house in Telok Gong. She briefly left the children unattended to use the toilet. 'The 11-year-old took the car keys and drove with the younger sibling and cousin to a nearby shop,' Ramli said.
The child drove two kilometres before losing control, causing the car to skid into a roadside drain. No injuries were reported, and only minor damage occurred to the vehicle.
Police are investigating under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving, Section 39(1) for driving without a licence (underage), and the Child Act 2001 for potential neglect. - Bernama

Store supervisor loses RM624,617 in online investment scam

GEORGE TOWN: A store supervisor in Batu Kawan lost RM624,617 after falling victim to an online investment scam. Acting Penang police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said the 56-year-old man came across a Facebook advertisement in February promising high returns. He later contacted a man via WhatsApp. He said the victim was lured by promises of quick profits and was instructed to download the XGI Horizon app to register and begin investing. 'Between Feb 18 and April 24, the victim made 31 transfers into 10 different company accounts,' he said in a statement today. Mohd Alwi said the man realised he had been scammed when he was asked to make further payments before he could withdraw his purported profits. He lodged a police report at the Seberang Perai Selatan police headquarters yesterday. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. - Bernama

MCMC Receives 121 Reports On Scam Ads Using Names Of High-profile Individuals

KUALA LUMPUR, July 23 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has so far received 121 reports on scam advertisements using names and images of high-profile individuals on social media platforms, according to Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching. She said that among the prominent figures whose identities have been misused in such fraudulent ads are the King of Malaysia, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim; the Sultan of Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah; Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah; and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Teo also highlighted a recent incident involving herself, where she became a victim of a scam ad on Facebook, raising concerns about the role of platform operators, which appear to be acting as accomplices to such fraudulent activities.
