Kanimozhi-led delegation lands in Madrid, to highlight India's fight against terrorism
Madrid [Spain] June 1 (ANI): Group 6 of the all-party parliamentary delegation from India arrived in Madrid on the final leg of its multi-nation outreach.
Led by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, the delegation was received by Dinesh K Patnaik, India's Ambassador to Spain.
Speaking in Madrid, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Dr Ashok Kumar Mittal outlined the purpose of the visit.
'Our final stop on this journey is Madrid, Spain, and first of all, we are meeting with the Indian diaspora here. We want to understand their sentiments and also make them aware of the sentiments of the Government of India and our Prime Minister,' he said.
The delegation aims to engage with local government representatives, policy think tanks and Spanish parliamentarians during its visit.
'We want to inform them about how we outmanoeuvred Pakistan in Operation Sindoor and how we brought India back from the clutches of extremism. Alongside this, we have meetings scheduled with the local government, with think tanks here, and with parliamentarians. In these, we will present India's stance -- that India has always been opposed to extremism.'
He also addressed the delegation's broader strategic message, saying, 'Not only will India eliminate extremism within its own borders, but it is also committed to eradicating Pakistan-sponsored extremism in other parts of the world. Our government and our Prime Minister are fully determined and strongly committed to eliminating it.'
The delegation, led by MP Kanimozhi, also includes Rajeev Rai (Samajwadi Party), Mian Altaf Ahmad (Jammu and Kashmir National Conference), Brijesh Chowta (BJP), Prem Chand Gupta (Rashtriya Janata Dal), Ashok Kumar Mittal (Aam Aadmi Party), and Former envoys Manjeev S Puri and Jawed Ashraf.
Meanwhile, the all-party delegation led by DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi saw fruitful outcomes as Indian delegations worldwide continued with their outreach program under Operation Sindoor.
India's Ambassador to Latvia, Namrata S Kumar, noted that the visit conveyed India's message of how cross-border terrorism poses a threat not only to India but to the world at large.
Speaking about the outcome of the visit of the all-party delegation from India, Ambassador Namrata S Kumar said, 'The All-Party Delegation from India carried a strong message through Operation Sindoor, which I conveyed during meetings in Latvia. They engaged with Latvian parliamentarians... and key think tanks, where they clearly laid out the reality of cross-border terrorism that India has faced for decades, especially from Pakistan... They emphasised that the threats of cross-border terrorism are not confined to only India... They emphasised that these threats, particularly attempts to divide societies along religious lines, are not just regional but global in nature. This has ramifications on a global level, that's why a global alliance is crucial.'
India has sent several all-party delegations to showcase India's resolve against terrorism and garner international support for a united stand against this global threat. The Indian government's diplomatic outreach efforts aim to strengthen partnerships with countries in East and Southeast Asia, emphasising the need for a collective response to the threat of terrorism. 'The date has not yet been finalised, but PM Modi is set to inaugurate the historic Katra-Kashmir Vande Bharat train soon. The tentative date is believed to be 6 June, the day PM Modi is also likely to chair the first meeting of the Union Council of Ministers after Operation Sindoor,' remarked a senior official of the railways, adding that confirmation of the Prime Minister's programme is expected by today. Meanwhile, the local administration in Katra is coordinating with Indian Railways to make all necessary security arrangements and complete other formalities. Sources added that Prime Minister Modi's visit to Katra for the railway function will be his first since the Pahalgam terror attack, and it is expected that he may address the gathering on the occasion. However, sources stated that no tentative programme has yet been announced regarding a possible visit by the Prime Minister to Srinagar.

Community centre booking ‘scam': Chandigarh mayor transfers staff, seeks probe
A day after the Chandigarh unit of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) alleged a ₹100-crore scam in the booking of community centres meant to be available for free for the economically weaker sections (EWS), city mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla asked the municipal commissioner to initiate a formal vigilance inquiry into the matter. The mayor also transferred all staff working in the booking branch of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation. The issue is expected to rock the MC House meeting on Tuesday. The mayor said the investigation was aimed at uncovering any irregularities, negligence or misconduct by the staff, and appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken based on the findings. The mayor stated that the move was essential to ensure transparency and improve the efficiency of the department, while also restoring public confidence and upholding administrative standards. The mayor assured that booking services will continue without disruption under the supervision of newly deputed staff. On Sunday, AAP party leaders had accused a nexus of middlemen, fake councillor endorsements and municipal staff of manipulating the booking process to illegally charge poor families between ₹26,000 and ₹55,000 per booking. Vikrant A Tanwar, media in-charge of AAP, Chandigarh, had alleged that the booking process—meant to be free for EWS applicants—was hijacked by impersonators using forged documents, fake councillor stamps and falsified signatures.

‘With support of your friends in China…': Shashi Tharoor censures Pakistan, Beijing for shielding terror group at UN
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who is currently leading an all-party delegation overseas, attacked Pakistan and China for preventing Lashkar-e-Taiba's 'The Resistance Front' (TRF) from being named in a UNSC statement. Tharoor alleged that Pakistan, 'with the support of their friends in China', made sure that the front is not named in a press statement made by the United Nations Security Council. While interacting with Ambassador Celso Amorim, Head Adviser of the Special Advisory to the President of Brazil, Tharoor pointed out that India tried to raise the issue of LeT-backed terror group the Resistance Front before the UN Sanctions Committee multiple times, but the action was blocked by China's support to Pakistan. Tharoor said, 'LeT (Lashkar-e-Taiba) has created this front called Resistance Front, we have been reporting about Resistance Front to UN Sanctions Committee, time after time. They (TRF) claimed credit for the killings, and the next day they repeated that claim. But when they realised the gravity of it, their handlers in Pakistan got them to delete the claim. However, their claim is on record for 24 hours.' Attacking Pakistan and Beijing, the Congress MP said, 'When India encouraged our friends on Security Council to mention the Resistance Front in the press statement that Security Council issued, Pakistan government, I am sorry to say that, with the support of your friend in China, took out the name, so there is not even a reference.' Tharoor, among other MPs, is part of an all-party delegation tasked with travelling to dozens of countries and spreading the message behind India's Operation Sindoor and the fight against terrorism. During his interaction with Ambassador Amorim in Brazil, the senior Congress leader said that India's fight is against terrorism being used as an instrument of state policy. He also pointed out how the funerals of terrorists who were killed in Operation Sindoor were attended by senior police and military officials in Pakistan. Tharoor, while holding up a photo of one of these funerals, said, 'When we struck those terror bases on May 7, there was a funeral at one of these sites conducted by Hafiz Abdur Rauf, an LeT figure named by the United Nations. Look who's attending the funeral – uniformed officials of the police and military of Pakistan. These are all senior officials, this is what is going on in Pakistan.'
