Mallorca boss opens up on facing Barcelona in La Liga opener – ‘They are in great form'

Yahoo9 hours ago
Mallorca manager Jagoba Arrasate has shared his thoughts ahead of his team's La Liga 2025/26 opener against Barcelona.
Speaking to the media, the 47-year-old addressed several topics, including the challenge of taking on Hansi Flick's side and the special situation of Pablo Torre, who will face his former club.
From the very start, Arrasate acknowledged the difficulty of the task ahead. 'With a perfect match, it goes without saying that they are the league champions. They have had a good pre-season, and I think they are in great form,' he said.
He stressed that Mallorca must be at their best defensively while still looking to attack. 'We have to get closer to our best version and it all depends on defending well against a team that is capable of creating many scoring chances in attack.
'Today they have normalised that in any game they can score four or five goals against any opponent and that is one of the keys, but we also have to attack them and to do so we must be fluid with the ball. In short, we have to get closer to excellence.'
Mallorca's tactical approach
Arrasate outlined how Mallorca could look to exploit Barcelona tactically. 'Barça stifles you a lot when you play the ball out, you see a lot of space behind their defense, but it's not easy to reach,' he admitted.
He noted their tactical flexibility, adding, 'We'll see how they play. They start with a 4-3-3, but then they often modify that formation and use a three-man formation, almost a 3-2-5, and that's where we have to adjust with the midfielders.
'It's not easy, but if we're playing in a zonal position, if we're doing well, it's easier to intervene.'

Speaking about Pablo Torre, who joined Mallorca this summer with Barcelona retaining a buy-back clause, Arrasate was full of praise.
'He has adapted very well, he's a player who suits us wonderfully. The other day, he had a great game against Hamburg.
'He's very motivated because he likes to play, to be a protagonist and I understand that since it's Barça, it will be special for him.
'We've talked a little about what Barça is all about. I see him very excited about this project, with this challenge of being important at Mallorca, and I hope he shows that from day one.'
La Liga in Miami
Finally, on the Villarreal-Barça match being played in Miami, Arrasate responded with a touch of sarcasm. 'I have some friends in Miami, some good pelotari who're still there, and I'm sure they've taken it as good news.'
On a serious note, he added, 'I don't like it, but it's what I said before: there are clubs, and we're part of it. The garrison has been eating its fill for a while.
'If we think there are things that need to change, we have to transfer it to the club, and the club has to go to LaLiga. I think things have to be done differently.'

Inside track revealed on bid from La Liga side for Chelsea defender revealed

Chelsea defender Renato Veiga was heavily linked with a move to Spain this transfer window, and after Atletico Madrid's interest has faded, it seemed that that prospect had faded. However a fresh suitor has emerged for the versatile young defender. Atletico reportedly got as far as making an offer in the range of €30-35m for Veiga, but after David Hancko's move to Saudi Arabia collapsed, they switched their attentions to the Slovakian. Villarreal have now emerged as a new option for Veiga though. Villarreal send formal bid to Chelsea According to Fabrizio Romano, Villarreal have sent a formal bid to Chelsea for Veiga. Thus far, it is short of Chelsea's demands though, and Romano adds that an agreement between the two is 'difficult'. An offer has also been made to Veiga himself, and he is described as a dream target. Villarreal expert Javi Mata has backed up Romano's information, but does add that the chances of a deal being done are slim. Chelsea's demands have previously been set at €40m for Veiga's services. Villarreal dealing with injury crisis The Yellow Submarine will be keen to bring in some form of reinforcements at the back. Having already lost veteran central defender Logan Costa to an anterior cruciate ligament injury, Willy Kambwala has also been ruled out for the next four months. Currently Marcelina Garcia Toral has four options that can play in central defence; veteran Juan Foyth, young signings Rafa Marin and Santiago Mourino, and academy defender Pau Navarro. Image via Fichajes It seems that unless Chelsea drop their demands, Villarreal will have a tough job convincing them to sell. One factor working in their favour is time: if Chelsea do want to offload Veiga, they have just two weeks to do so before the end of the transfer window. Thus far, no other side has met those demands either.

Harry Kane torn on what his favorite Bayern Munich goal has been so far

Ever since joining Bayern Munich from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2023, Harry Kane has gone on to tally 85 goals and 26 assists from a total of 96 appearances across all competitions. He finally broke the club title duck last season by winning the Bundesliga title with Bayern and securing a second consecutive Torjägerkanone after finishing with 26 league goals. Despite have lost out to what was an incredibly impressive Bayer Leverkusen side under Xabi Alonso in the 2023/24 season, Kane had one of the best scoring seasons of his life, having netted 36 league goals and 44 across all competitions. Case in point, Kane has had absolutely zero difficulty transitioning from the Premier League to the Bundesliga and he has casually set scoring records in his first two seasons with the German Rekordmeister, though he's still out for Robert Lewandowski's single season Bundesliga record of 41 goals. Of the 85 goals that Kane has scored for Bayern, there have been some absolute beauties as well as match winners, momentum shifters, and goals with his right foot, left foot, and head. On the striker's Cleats Club app (via @iMiaSanMia), the England skipper answered the question of what his favorite Bayern goal is thus far that he's scored, and the striker couldn't decidec from two that stick out from the rest for him. 'I'd say it's between two. The halfway line goal against Darmstadt and my third goal against Augsburg, where Leon played it over the top and I took my touch in the air and then headed it home. Technically it was probably one of the best goals I've scored in my career. So yeah probably between these two,' Kane explained. The pair of goals are certainly worthy of being in his top 10 highlight reel, at least for his Bayern career so far, and they'll both go down in the annals of Bundesliga history. The halfway goal scored against Darmstadt in the 2023/24 season rivals David Beckham's infamous half-field strike against Wimbledon back in 1996, but Kane was, without a trace of doubt, several steps further back than Beckham was when he struck the ball. At the tie, Kane's wonder strike was one of three that he scored in Bayern's 8-0 routing of Darmstadt, who are back in the Bundesliga this season. For the goal against Augsburg from last season, Kane essentially did his best impression of the Bundesliga logo to take a touch to control the ball before calmly heading it past keeper Nediljko Labrović. What made that goal all the more special for Kane was that it completed his hat-trick on that particular evening.
