'We have made an appeal to the mahant, devotees and others to take out the Jagannath Rath Yatra without removing the additional sound systems as it is already delayed and the removal of the additional sound systems will lead to a further delay. A request has also been made to maintain peace and not pay attention to rumours,' the DCP said. As a precautionary measure, reserved police forces and personnel from neighbouring police stations were deployed along the procession route. 'The situation is under control but we are still alert and keeping a close surveillance on the situation. Rumour-mongers will be dealt with sternly,' another official said. Police have launched a probe into the incident, Additional DCP Mahesh Kumar said. The dispute erupted between police and the priest over the installation of additional sound systems for the procession. According to local residents, devotees got angry after police asked the organisers of the procession to remove the additional sound systems, following which they sat on a dharna at Nayaganj. Das told reporters that the SO, along with police personnel from Nayaganj, arrived at the spot and asked them to carry only two speakers with the procession, when they were preparing to take out the Jagannath Rath Yatra at 1 pm. 'When we opposed this, saying no senior official had issued any such instruction, the police personnel misbehaved with us,' he said. Irked by the alleged misbehaviour of the police personnel, supporters of the priest started raising slogans against police. Officials tried to pacify the priest and his supporters, but they were adamant on their demand that the SO should be placed under suspension. Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Amitabh Bajpai also arrived at the spot with his supporters and they recited the 'Hanuman Chalisa' there in protest. Das walked through the market with folded hands, following which the shopkeepers pulled down their shutters in his support. The priest gave an ultimatum that if no action was taken against the erring police personnel by 8 pm, he will set himself on fire, which prompted top officials to swing into action. Amarnath pilgrimage not to be allowed through railway, 60 RFID centres functional in 5 districts: Jammu DC
Jammu, June 27 (UNI) Jammu Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar on Friday said that Shri Amarnath Yatra will not be allowed through railways while 60 RFID centres are established at five prominent districts in the Jammu region. "Yatra will not be allowed through the railway. It will be allowed only via road under proper regulation by the administration and security forces,' the Divisional Commissioner here told reporters in a press conference. He was flanked by Inspector General of Police Jammu Zone, Bhim Sen Tuti and other senior officers from police and administration. Kumar informed that online registration with e-KYC from the website of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board and from different Bank Branches across the nation has already been started by SASB, while the offline registration shall begin on 1 July, 2025 in Jammu. He said elaborate arrangements have been put in place in Bhagwati Nagar Yatra camp, where the Yatris will arrive a day before leaving in convoys for Baltal and Pahalgam Yatra base camps. 'A total of 141 lodgment centres have been established in Jammu Division with adequate civic amenities and security arrangements, while 52 langers and 60 RFID centres will function in Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Udhampur and Ramban Districts and five Registration centres with a token centre at Saraswati Dham are being made functional in Jammu,' he added. IGP Jammu also appealed to the people to adhere to the Dos and Don'ts and public advisories being issued by the Administration. The general public can avail live information pertaining to the holy Yatra from the dedicated Control Rooms which shall be made functional in coming days, he said. The duo briefed about the foolproof and elaborate arrangements made by the administration for smooth conduct of Shri Amarnath Yatra 2025. Earlier, the Divisional Commissioner Jammu and Inspector General of Police, held a meeting with prominent members of the civil society of Jammu to discuss the arrangements and seek their cooperation for smooth conduct of Shri Amarnathji Yatra (SANJY) starting on July 2 from Yatri Niwas Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu. The meeting was attended by senior officials from Civil and Police administration and representatives of religious organizations transporters, Taxi Union, Traders, Bazaar associations, hoteliers, Sabhas was briefed about the elaborate arrangements and preparations made by the administration for the annual pilgrimage. The civil society members gave their valuable insights and suggestions for a spiritually rich experience to the Yatris. At the outset, the Divisional Commissioner highlighted the religious, spiritual, cultural and economic significance of Shri Amarnath Yatra 2025 and emphasized on the crucial role of all the stakeholders in ensuring a smooth and hassle free yatra experience to the pilgrims. The Divisional Commissioner informed the meeting that elaborate arrangements have been made at Bhagwati Nagar yatra camp for the comfortable stay of pilgrims. 'With adequate water, power supply, the Niwas has AC halls, Hangers for shade, community Langer, sanitation and modern washroom facilities. Similar arrangements have also been made at lodgment centres across the districts en-route the yatra right from Lakhanpur in Kathua to Lambar, Banihal in Ramban,' Kumar said. The Civil Society members assured full cooperation to the administration from their end to make the yatra successful and memorable for the local and non local pilgrims. Stress was laid on giving wide publicity to Tawi Arti being organized during the yatra period, besides nearby sites and Tourist places for the information of the pilgrims arriving from different parts of the nation and the world. The Divisional Commissioner said that the pilgrims will be given full information by the Tourism department at their help desks established at RFID centres in Jammu and Lakhanpur. The civil society members gave numerous suggestions to make the yatra pleasant and hassle free including enhanced arrangements in view of monsoon, regulation of fares of three wheelers and cabs, encroachment free public spaces, erecting banners with information about the tourist spots and uninterrupted power and water supply in areas with hotels where Yatris will stay. IGP Tuti, while interacting with the Civil Society members, informed them about the elaborate security arrangements made with additional deployment of paramilitary forces creating a multi-tier security grid. Emphasis was laid on adherence to the cutoff timings by the yatris and traveling only with the official yatra convoys. The IGP Jammu assured that local tourists will not be affected during the Yatra. The Divisional Commissioner expressed gratitude to the civil society members for their cooperation and assistance to administration.
