Wrong-way driver arrested for aggravated DUI on I-93 in New Hampshire

Yahoo14-02-2025

A New Hampshire man is facing drunken driving and other charges after driving the wrong way on Interstate 93, state police said Friday.
William Heffron Jr., 55, of Meredith, was arrested and charged with nine counts of felony reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, aggravated DUI and reckless driving, state police said.
At 9:35 p.m. Wednesday, state police received multiple calls about a vehicle driving southbound in the northbound lanes of I-93 in Thornton.
Troopers located a silver Toyota Corolla, driven by Heffron, who 'continued to travel at a high rate of speed south in the northbound lanes in Ashland,' state police said.
To prevent additional danger to the public, troopers who were further south formed a rolling roadblock to stop traffic on the interstate.
Heffron then stopped in front of the troopers, where he was taken into custody.
A roadside investigation found Heffron showed signs of impairment.
Investigators also learned that Heffron was wanted on a warrant issued by Laconia Police.
Heffron remains held on preventative detention at the Grafton County Department of Corrections.
Police from Ashland and Holderness assisted troopers at the scene.
The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Trooper David Carlson at 603-223-3787.

BU responds to sexual harassment allegations made by Alex Cooper

Days after the 'Call Her Daddy' podcast host, Alex Cooper, alleged she was sexually harassed by her soccer coach while at Boston University, the school has issued a response. The University issued the following statement: Boston University has a zero-tolerance policy for sexual harassment. We have a robust system of resources, support, and staff dedicated to student wellbeing and a thorough reporting process through our Equal Opportunity Office. We encourage members of our community to report any concerns, and we remain committed to fostering a safe and secure campus environment for all. This comes following the first episode of Cooper's Hulu Documentary, 'Call Her Alex', where she said that ex-coach Nancy Feldman had become fixated on her and engaged in uncomfortable, and sometimes sexual, conversations both in private and in front of teammates. Cooper said that she went to the school with her claims and was listened to, but was brushed off. This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available. Guatemalan national indicted after federal agent seriously injured in Rhode Island, US Attorney says

A federal grand jury has indicted a Guatemalan national after a Homeland Security agent suffered a serious injury while trying to arrest him on a warrant in April, the U.S. Attorney said. Miguel Tamup-Tamup, a/k/a Miguel US Tamup, 28, who was previously deported and is in the U.S. illegally, is charged with two counts of assaulting, resisting, opposing, impeding, or interfering with federal officers engaged in official duties, Acting U.S. Attorney Sara Miron Bloom said in a statement on Thursday. Federal authorities arrested Tamup-Tamup on May 16 at a home in Providence. He has been detained since making an initial appearance in federal court on that day. On April 30, a Homeland Security Investigations agent suffered a serious leg injury during an encounter with Tamup-Tamup, who fled authorities that day after he was previously arrested after a DUI crash, Miron Bloom said. On April 19, police arrested Tamup-Tamup for driving under the influence after his car allegedly collided with another vehicle, prosecutors said. He was subsequently arraigned and released. His fingerprints matched ICE fingerprint records associated with a person flagged as being in the United States illegally. On April 30, an ICE deportation officer and Homeland Security Investigations agents stopped a car that Tamup-Tamup was driving, Miron Bloom said. They tried to apprehend him on an arrest warrant. After he refused to get out of his car, Tamup-Tamup was guided out of the vehicle, prosecutors said. While the agents tried to place Tamup-Tamup in handcuffs, he 'allegedly resisted, threw his upper body and shoulders against the agents, flailed his arms, and broke an agent's hold,' Miron Bloom said. One of the agents fell to the ground and suffered a serious leg injury, Miron Bloom said. Tamup-Tamup ran away from law enforcement as others were helping the injured agent. The agent's condition was not known on Thursday. This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
