Sudheer Kumar Reddy takes over as Mangaluru Police Commissioner
Sudheer Kumar Reddy, a 2010 Indian Police Service officer, took charge as the Commissioner of Police, Mangaluru City, on Friday.
Mr. Reddy was the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Intelligence, at the State police headquarters before his posting to Mangaluru.
Anupam Agrawal, who had been the Commissioner of Police since September 2023, was transferred to the post of Deputy Inspector General of Police (Economic Offences), Criminal Investigation Department, on Thursday.
Mr. Reddy served as the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Dakshina Kannada district for a brief period, from June 2017 to January 2018. During the period, he had dealt with the illegal sand mafia with an iron hand.
Sharath Madiwala, a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh volunteer, was murdered in a communal retaliatory attack during his period, on July 4, 2017, at BC Road. The assailants were subsequently arrested in about two months.
Mr. Reddy, a native of Andhra Pradesh, had begun to learn Tulu, the language of the region, to assimilate with the region when he was the SP of Dakshina Kannada.
Holding a Bachelor of Technology and a Master of Arts (Public Administration) degrees, Mr. Reddy was on inter-cadre deputation to Andhra Pradesh for a few years from 2020.
After assuming office, Mr. Reddy told The Hindu that he would address the issues concerning the Commissionerate and the public on a priority basis.

Three convicted to life imprisonment in 2022 gangrape and murder case in Palnadu
The 5th Additional District Judge of Guntur K. Neelima on Tuesday sentenced three men to life imprisonment in the sensational 2022 gangrape and murder case involving a tribal woman from Macharla mandal in Palnadu district, according to Superintendent of Police Kanchi Srinivasa Rao. In a statement, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said that Seelam Anji (22), Saviti Chinna Anji (22), and Seelam Baiswami (31), all residents of Bellamkonda Vari Palem Chenchu Colony, were convicted under IPC Sections 376D, 376A, 302, and 201 read with Section 34. Each was sentenced for 20 years for gangrape, 20 years for sexual assault causing death, life imprisonment for murder, and 7 years for destruction of evidence, along with fines totaling ₹70,000. The victim, aged about 46 was an ASHA worker. She was raped and murdered on September 16, 2022, while searching for her lost mobile phone. Mr. Srinivasa Rao commended the police for the meticulous investigation. APP Pallapu Krishna played a key role in securing conviction. The SP emphasised the success of the district's 'Special Trial Case Monitoring' initiative in ensuring justice.

Student from Nalgonda deported from US for fake docus
Hyderabad: The RGI Airport police apprehended a 28-year-old student from Nalgonda for allegedly using forged documents to secure a US visa. Based on his admission, cops subsequently arrested the managing director of an education consultancy firm who supplied the documents to him. The first arrest took place on June 1 when Pakiru Gopal Reddy, from Parepalligudem in Nalgonda district, landed at the Shamshabad airport after being deported from Dallas, US, for an inactive Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). He was pursuing his master's at Webster University, Missouri. "During interrogation by immigration officials Reddy confessed that he went to the US on Sept 28, 2023, by obtaining a US visa using fake BSc Computers certificates from Madurai Kamraj University," said V Sreekanth Goud, ACP, RGIA. He added: "Reddy said he initially stayed there for 15 months and returned home on personal work in 2024. In the last week of May, he returned to the US but was intercepted at the Dallas airport and deported to India for inactive SEVIS status. "Ashok confessed to police that since 2020 he has supplied fake degree certificates to 15 students and sent them abroad by charging between Rs 80,000 and Rs 1 lakh each," said a police official. Burglar who invested 10L, disguised as woman held
Mumbai: A 44-year-old man who amassed enough wealth through committing burglaries to be able to invest in properties has been arrested by Malad Police. Ranjit Kumar Singh alias Munna, the accused, would take up a disguise and dress up as a woman before he set out for committing crimes Police have recovered a machine in which he would melt the stolen gold and silver ornaments before selling them. On tracing Singh and questioning him, they learnt that he was involved in eight break-ins in the past three months at Borivli, Kandiali, Malad West and Dindoshi. He had never been arrested earlier for any of the crimes. Singh was a resident of Kharodi village in Malad and a native of Bihar.
