ollin Murray-Boyles was selected by the Toronto Raptors with the ninth overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft on Wednesday night. It was a major moment for South Carolina basketball.
The 6-foot-6 forward, who recently turned 20, now becomes the second-highest draft selection in the history of the Gamecocks program. Despite South Carolina's disappointing season, Murray-Boyles stood out with his skill and defensive instincts, making him one of the most intriguing picks in this year's draft.
Raptors land Collin Murray-Boyles with the 9th pick
Collin Murray-Boyles made a blue-chip impact. In a year where the Gamecocks finished dead last in the SEC with a dismal 2-16 conference record, his production was commendable.
Averaging 16.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game, he earned All-SEC second-team honors. Indeed, it is a rare feat given the team's record.
NBA
Commissioner Adam Silver made it official in Brooklyn, announcing: "With the 9th pick in 2025 NBA Draft, Toronto Raptors select Collin Murray-Boyles from the University of South Carolina."
Sports reporter Mike Uva of GamecockCentral reported the news by posting on X, "Just In: South Carolina forward Collin Murray-Boyles has been drafted with the 9th overall pick by the Toronto Raptors.

His physical tools pop off the page. He has a 7-foot wingspan. Collins weighs 239 pounds and has a max vertical of 34.5 inches. But on top of that, his ability to judge opponents' gameplay before the game has been widely praised by scouts.
While his offensive range is still developing, he shot just 26.5% from three and hit 39 threes over two seasons. Collin's ability to finish around the basket and timing on both ends make him a high-upside pick.
With a field goal percentage of 58.6%, Murray-Boyles showed consistency in scoring efficiently without needing to dominate the ball.
The moment was an emotional one for the Columbia native, who shared the spotlight with his parents, brother, and girlfriend Chloe Kitts.

Meet Bud Grant—the only player ever to play in NBA and NFL
Bud Grant (via Getty Images) It takes a rare feat for anyone to switch leagues. Mastering two is unheard of. But Bud Grant didn't attempt to try his hand at both football and basketball—he went on to play in the NBA and NFL , making him the lone athlete in history to actually play in both leagues. His athletic ability was so diverse that upon graduation from college, he was drafted by both the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles and the NBA's Minneapolis Lakers. Bud Grant's journey from NBA to NFL Harry Peter "Bud" Grant Jr. blazed a trail that no one has yet followed. He was born in 1927 and was a standout in high school and at the University of Minnesota in football, basketball, and baseball. Opting for closeness over compensation, Bud Grant signed with the Minneapolis Lakers, a home team with a familiar face as GM. He spent two seasons of pro basketball, even claiming an NBA championship in 1950, albeit while averaging a paltry 2.6 points per contest. A transition to football—and immediate NFL prosperity In 1951, Bud Grant did a spectacular turnaround. He phoned the Philadelphia Eagles, the same team that drafted him initially, and requested a spot in the NFL. The Eagles took him back, and Grant didn't waste any time showing that he belonged. The Only Player To Crossover From NBA To NFL | #nfl #nba As a rookie, he was used as a defensive end and unofficial team sack leader—albeit no one kept that statistic at the time. By his second year, he had moved to wide receiver, piling up 997 receiving yards, the second-best in the league. After the Eagles declined to offer him a raise, Grant migrated north to play for the Canadian Football League's Winnipeg Blue Bombers. In 1967, he returned to the U.S. to become an assistant coach with the Minnesota Vikings, where he led the team to four Super Bowl berths and became an NFL icon. Bud Grant died in 2023, just short of age 96, but his legacy was unscathed. While many have participated in several sports, he's the only player to officially be in both the NBA and NFL—and take home a championship as well. NFL quarterback Tommy DeVito goes viral for living with his mom—who still cook, clean, and make his bed
Tommy DeVito goes viral for staying with his parents despite $1M NFL rookie quarterback Tommy DeVito is officially living the dream, he's making $1 million this season, he's got fans chanting his name at MetLife and he still lives with his parents in New Jersey. His mom makes his bed, does his laundry, and cooks all his meals. DeVito's not ashamed, either. In fact, he says it's a 'no-brainer.' And fans? They're either wildly impressed or totally confused. Tommy DeVito lives at home, eats home-cooked meals, and makes no apologies This isn't a rumor. It's straight from DeVito himself. The New Jersey native told ESPN he still lives at home in Cedar Grove because: 'Everything that I need is there at the house... the decision was a no-brainer for me.' No rent. No commute. Mom's chicken cutlets. It's peak Italian-American son energy and social media loves it. Making $1M a year and still letting mom fold your socks? Fans are divided DeVito is on a standard rookie deal and will make around $1 million this year not chump change, but not Mahomes money either. So yes, he could afford a place. But he's choosing financial discipline over flash, and fans are reacting accordingly: One user, @kingshagrin comments, '$1 million ain't shit in New York lol' Another user @mikejbabcock, agreed to the setting, 'Median income for a single person in Jersey is $49K. That $1M puts DeVito in the top 1%. But hey, if mom's gonna cook and clean, I might stay home too.' Tommy DeVito goes viral as NFL QB who lives with parents and lets mom do everything- X People are torn, some think it's genius financial planning, others think it's peak mama's boy energy. DeVito isn't just a meme, he actually won games for the Giants last year While the living situation is funny, let's not forget, DeVito stepped in as QB for the Giants last season and won games. He had a three-game win streak, went viral for his hand gestures, and brought life to a flat Giants offense. Now? He's still a backup, but firmly on the radar—and living rent-free (literally) while doing it. Not every NFL player needs a $10M condo or flashy sports car. Tommy DeVito is proof that staying grounded can still work even in the most high-profile job in sports. And as long as he keeps winning games (and bringing leftovers to practice), no one's really complaining. NHL trade news: Los Angeles Kings eye Flyers' draft capital in spicy draft day talks, Mark Yannetti says 'there is a fit there'
Los Angeles Kings jerseys (Credit: Getty Images) The Los Angeles Kings enter the draft with a clear void between pick No. 24 and their next selection at No. 88. Their director of amateur scouting, Mark Yannetti, openly admitted that Philadelphia's draft capital, particularly in the second round, is very attractive. The Kings do not hold a second-round pick in this year's draft, which limits their flexibility and threatens to leave a large talent gap in their prospect pipeline. Who are the LA Kings Taking in the 2025 NHL Draft? Scouting Director Mark Yannetti on ATKM! How the Philadelphia Flyers could move up The Philadelphia Flyers currently hold the 31st overall pick, just outside the first round, and possess multiple second-round selections. With clear needs across several positions and a front office that has shown a willingness to be aggressive, a jump into the first round, particularly at pick 24, feels realistic. That specific slot, owned by the Kings, could be their ticket to success. General manager Daniel Brière may be eyeing a player projected to go in the 20s. Packaging one of their extra second-rounders to climb from 31 to 24 would be a logical move, especially if they are targeting a difference-maker. The Flyers have already demonstrated a rebuild-oriented but proactive draft strategy in recent years. Acquiring a mid-first-round talent would align with their current trajectory. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Nhà container vận chuyển thực sự có giá bao nhiêu? - Xem giá Shipping Container Homes Tìm hiểu thêm Undo Where the draft day drama could expand While the Los Angeles Kings and Philadelphia Flyers are front and center, another team to watch is the San Jose Sharks. With general managers poised to maneuver aggressively, the path to a deal is anything but straightforward. As the first round nears, the tension builds, and with it, a classic draft day power play might unfold.
