In Benyamin's Silent Journeys, we trace the voyage of Mariamma, a young nurse from Kerala who travelled from her hometown in Manthalir all the way across the world. Nothing was known of her journey until many decades later, when a curious great grandson began his investigations only to stumble across a tale of great adventure, hardship, resilience, and love.
The novel reflects upon terrific stories of unaccompanied and courageous journeys that many valiant women, primarily nurses, have made through history, reaching the coldest places in the Arctic, Canada, remote tribal locations in the desert, the interiors of the dark continent, and almost everywhere in Europe.

The Remnants of Rebellion, Ponnu Elizabeth Mathew

Angalityat: The Step Child, Joseph Macwan, translated from the Gujarati by Rita Kothari
Angaliyat tells the story of oppression and exclusion by transforming the vanquished into the victor, by turning the periphery into the core. The portrayal of Methi and Kanku as 'pure' women challenges the age-old perceptions of higher castes, which denigrate the practice of remarriage among 'backwards' communities. The stepchild who follows the mother to a new home, holding her finger or angali, remains on the periphery of the stepfather's family. Caught in external and internal forms of colonisation, the community of weavers, the Vankars, is subject to oppression from the more powerful upper caste of the Patels.
Whose Urdu Is It Anyway?: Stories by Non-Muslim Urdu Writers, edited and translated by Rakhshanda Jalil
Is Urdu the language of Muslims? Or, to be more precise, the language of Indian Muslims?
In modern-day India, is Urdu a language of Upper India? What of the Deccan plateau, then, which was once the cradle of Urdu? Can the India south of the Vindhyas lay claim to Urdu? This collection of 16 short stories, entirely by non-Muslim Urdu writers, is an attempt to bust stereotypes and address a persistent misconception: that Urdu is the language of India's Muslims and that it addresses subjects that are, or should be, of concern to Muslims, and Muslims alone. It locates Urdu in its rightful place – in the heart of Hindustan.

Last Updated: Starring Tovino Thomas and Bhavana, the 2024 Malayalam film arrived on digital platforms almost 15 months after hitting theatres. Tovino Thomas' 2024 Malayalam film Nadikar has finally arrived on OTT, ending a long period of uncertainty for fans. Directed by Jean Paul Lal, aka Lal Jr., the film started streaming on Saina Play from August 8 this year, nearly 15 months after its theatrical release on May 3 last year. When it first hit cinemas, Nadikar struggled to find success and ended up being a rare flop for Tovino Thomas. Despite its poor box-office performance, the mystery around its OTT debut kept the film in the conversation for over a year. With the digital premiere now live, audiences have a fresh chance to judge the satirical drama for themselves. Long Road to Digital Release The delay in Nadikar's OTT release was unusual, especially in an era where films often hit streaming platforms within weeks of their theatrical run. The film portrays David's battle to regain his stardom while confronting his flaws. It mixes moments of humour, drama and introspection, showing the struggles of a celebrity whose fame begins to fade. Divya Pillai plays David's wife, Stella Padikkal, while Soubin Shahir, Balu Varghese, Suresh Krishna, Maala Parvathy and Althaf Salim feature in key supporting roles. Special appearances from Lal, Dhyan Sreenivasan and Shine Tom Chacko add extra star power. Behind the Scenes Written by Suvin Somasekharan and directed by Lal Jr., the movie is a satirical take on the fragile nature of stardom. Tovino Thomas delivers a performance that balances the charm of a superstar with the vulnerability of someone facing career collapse. Music is composed by Yakzan Gary Pereira and Neha Nair, cinematography is handled by Alby and editing is by Ratheesh Raj. Although Nadikar failed to make an impact in theatres, it received moderate reviews from critics. And in an interview with Bollywood Hungama, the actor broke his silence on the same. John revealed, 'It's very disheartening. I'm not going to mince my words on it, but it breaks your heart, especially for an actor who always wants to be seen on the big screen. But we all made a very informed decision on that. And the decision was that because of the conflicts and controversies that are happening around internationally.' The actor added, 'Theatres were a little wary of picking up a film that had Iran and Israel in it. We had a choice of either showing the film somewhere or not showing it at all.' On the film's limited audience Zee5 has been gracious and told us they would be our platform. But it also breaks your heart as an actor who only wants to be seen on the big screen. I treat this more like a foreign film in a way. When you will see the film, you will understand that why it will not resonate with a larger audience.
