Tiger Kills Elderly Man In Ranthambore, Villagers Jam Gates Of Tiger Reserve

An elderly caretaker was carried off and killed by a tiger in Ranthambore today, leading to a manhunt inside the Ranthambore fort by forest officials. Soon after, agitated villagers jammed the entrance of the fort and shouted slogans.
Radheshyam Saini, 60, was a caretaker inside the Jain temple in the 10th century fort located inside the boundaries of the Ranthambore tiger reserve, which is one of India's most popular tiger reserve. The area was closed to pilgrims due to two tiger attacks in April and May - one when a seven-year-old pilgrim, who had gone to the fort, was carried off by a tigress and another when a forest ranger was attacked by a tigress named Kankati. The tigress was then removed from the area and transquilised.
There is, however, a movement of about 15 tigers in this zone.
As soon as reports came in that Radheshaym Saini is missing and probably carried away by a tiger, his relatives reached the entrance to the fort and began a demonstration.
"My grandfather lives in the temple inside the fort, we believe the incident happened at night but it was reported this morning, we have come to the spot. My grandfather Radheshaym used to live inside the temple for 20 years and give his services there. We just heard four-five search parties from the forest department are looking for his body," said his grandson before the body was located.
The villagers are demanding accountability and action by forest department officials.

Man held for killing 27-year-old in hit-and-run in south Delhi
The Delhi Police arrested a man on Friday for killing a 27-year-old man in a hit-and-run in Vasant Kunj, south Delhi on June 7, officers said on Saturday. Police said that the car was identified as a Renault Triber, and its owner told them that her driver was alone in the car when the accident took place. The victim was identified as Ashish Kumar. The accused was identified as Jinender Jain, said police. 'Kumar was riding his bike home when he was hit and run over by a car on National Highway 8 near Shiv Murti at 10pm. Passersby called us, and we rushed Kumar to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram and then to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, where he was declared dead,' said a police officer associated with the case. 'The car was unidentified because of heavy traffic and there were no nearby CCTV cameras. So, we examined all vehicles along NH8 from Mahipalpur to the Gurugram border on CCTV and narrowed the probe to 20 vehicles. We then identified the car through CCTV footage at IFFCO Chowk in Gurugram,' said Amit Goel, deputy commissioner of police (southwest). Police said that they served a notice to the car owner who said that it was her driver who alone in the car at the time of the accident. 'We tracked down Jain and arrested him from Jasola on June 11, and also seized the car,' he added. Police said that Jain is being interrogated and has been sent to police custody.

Mumbai garment dealer on ventilator after being flung into air by SUV driven without licence
Mumbai: Naresh Bhagchandani (60), a garment dealer, is in critical condition on a ventilator at Lilavati Hospital after being struck by an SUV during a morning walk on Wednesday near Rajat Milk Dairy in Andheri (West). The accident happened near Bhagchandani's Lokhandwala residence. The police arrested Manav Jain (20), who they said was at the wheel of the SUV without a valid driving licence and fled the scene after ramming into an autorickshaw. He was arrested on Thursday night and subsequently released on bail. The police impounded the SUV, owned by Jain's sister. Investigations revealed that Jain took the vehicle for a ride, resulting in the collision with Bhagchandani, who had left his Lokhandwala residence minutes before the accident. "Jain was tracked using closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage along the escape route. The vehicle was registered in the name of his sister, and he does not possess a valid licence. Additional sections will be added to the FIR against Jain for driving without a licence under the Motor Vehicles Act. He sustained severe injuries, including head trauma, dislocation of two ribs near the spinal cord, and a fractured foot. The incident was reported after Bhagchandani's wife, Deepika (59), filed a complaint with the police on the same day. A police officer mentioned that CCTV footage near Rajput Milk Dairy at Accord Building captured Bhagchandani walking when the speeding SUV struck him and ran over him. Deepika said her husband used to leave for a walk daily at 6.30 am, returning home by 7.30 am. At 7 am on Wednesday, a milk vendor from Rajput Milk Centre reached the building where Bhagchandani lived with his wife and informed her about the incident. "We seek justice and appeal to the Mumbai police for severe action against the accused. Our family resides abroad, and our mother cannot handle the case alone. The milk vendor informed my mother, Deepika (59). With assistance from the building security guard, she arrived at the scene in our car and rushed my father to the hospital, where he underwent multiple spinal surgeries and was treated for a fractured leg," Bhagchandani's daughter, Sana Jaising, said. Jaising and her sister arrived from Australia and the US, respectively, after learning about the incident. "The incident has shattered our lives due to the inhuman act of the reckless driver, Manav Jain. His actions left my father on a ventilator after his lungs collapsed on Friday afternoon. Following a six-hour operation, he battled depression and was traumatised by the accident, resulting in the need for anti-depressants. He lay on the road for almost 10 minutes before my mother reached him in the car and, with the help of the building guard, drove him to the hospital," she said. 4 jailed for stealing idols from Jain temple
Trichy: Four people were convicted and sentenced to seven years of imprisonment each for stealing 23 idols worth crores from a Jain temple near Thanjavur in 2020. The idol wing police which investigated the case had recovered the idols the same year. The theft occurred at Arulmigu Atheeswaraswami temple in Karanthai on Jan 18, 2020 when a group broke open the gates and stole the metal idols of Jain saints and deities. A case was registered at Thanjavur Town West station under IPC section 457-2 (trespass) and 380-2 (idol theft). The case was shifted to Idol Wing police. On Mar 7, 2020, police found one of the idols being transported in a car during a vehicle check. Four people, S Saravanan, P Shanmugarajan, and A Ravi from Thanjavur, and V Vijayagopal from Nagapattinam were detained during a vehicle check . Police learnt that prime suspect Saravanan had kept the idols at a warehouse near his house. They recovered the remaining idols and arrested the suspects. Trial was initiated at the additional chief judicial magistrate court in Kumbakonam and the verdict was pronounced on Wednesday evening. The judge sentenced all four accused to seven years imprisonment and imposed a penalty of Rs2,000 each on them. They were lodged at Trichy central prison.
