Tiger suspected to be behind latest attack at Ranthambore captured

Days after another person was killed in a tiger attack at the Ranthambore National Park, Rajasthan's forest department has tranquilised the animal and moved it to the Kela Devi enclosure. On June 9, Radheshyam Saini, a 60-year-old watchman of a Jain temple in the Ranthambore Fort was killed by a tiger at 4.30 am, when he had gone into the forest to attend nature's call. Bite marks were found on his neck, confirming the fatal encounter. Radheyshyam's death has taken the tiger-related fatalities in the region to three in just two months, sparking widespread fear and unrest among local residents. According to Chief Wildlife Warden Shikha Mehra, the tiger is a male aged about 20 months. 'He was tranquilised in the evening and moved to the Kela Devi enclosure. When we captured the tiger, he showed aggression towards the forest staff. His genetic samples will be sent to the lab to make sure that this was the tiger that had attacked Radheshyam Saini. We will keep him under observation until the reports come in,' Mehra told The Indian Express. This comes a month after officials had tranquilised a young tigress named Kankati, who was believed to have been behind two killings, the forest ranger Devendra Chaudhary on May 11 and a 7-year-old child on April 16. The increasing incidents of tiger attacks have caused panic and tensions, with the latest incident leading irate locals to block the Sawai Madhopur–Kundera road and accuse the forest department of negligence. The tensions escalated into a confrontation between the protesters and the police, with the latter demanding adequate compensation.

Priest killed by tiger in Ranthambore Fort

Jaipur: In a tragic incident, a tiger attacked and killed a 60-year-old priest inside the historic Ranthambore Fort on Monday morning. The deceased has been identified as Radheshyam Saini, a resident of Sherpur village, who had been serving at the Jain temple in the fort for the past two decades. According to reports, the priest had gone out for his morning routine when the tiger struck. This marks the third fatal tiger attack in the area within the last two months. The shocking incident has triggered public anger. Local residents blocked the Sawai Madhopur-Kundera road, blaming the Forest Department for negligence. Villagers alleged that despite previous attacks, no effective action has been taken to protect people living in and around the forest zone. The Forest Department had issued an advisory only on Sunday, restricting the entry of civilians into the Ranthambore Fort due to increased tiger movement in the region. Locals are now demanding adequate compensation for the bereaved family and stricter safety protocols. Earlier, on April 21, a 7-year-old boy was mauled by tigress Kanakati near the Trinetra Ganesh temple. The child was returning with his grandmother when the tigress emerged from the forest and snatched him. The attack took place in the Amarai forest area. On May 12, a forest ranger was fatally attacked while on patrol near Jogi Mahal in Zone 3 of the Tiger Reserve. The tiger pounced on him near the Chhoti Chhatri area, targeting his neck and sitting on the body for nearly 20 minutes post the attack. All three attacks -- April 21, May 12, and June 9 -- have occurred within a 2 km radius of the Ranthambore Fort. Experts believe this concentrated pattern is alarming and necessitates immediate action, including relocation of tigers or stricter human entry control. As the community mourns the loss of a priest, the focus now shifts to what preventive steps authorities will take to ensure human-wildlife conflict in the region does not escalate further, said locals.

Tiger Kills Elderly Man In Ranthambore, Villagers Jam Gates Of Tiger Reserve

Jaipur: An elderly caretaker was carried off and killed by a tiger in Ranthambore today, leading to a manhunt inside the Ranthambore fort by forest officials. Soon after, agitated villagers jammed the entrance of the fort and shouted slogans. Radheshyam Saini, 60, was a caretaker inside the Jain temple in the 10th century fort located inside the boundaries of the Ranthambore tiger reserve, which is one of India's most popular tiger reserve. The area was closed to pilgrims due to two tiger attacks in April and May - one when a seven-year-old pilgrim, who had gone to the fort, was carried off by a tigress and another when a forest ranger was attacked by a tigress named Kankati. The tigress was then removed from the area and transquilised. There is, however, a movement of about 15 tigers in this zone. As soon as reports came in that Radheshaym Saini is missing and probably carried away by a tiger, his relatives reached the entrance to the fort and began a demonstration. "My grandfather lives in the temple inside the fort, we believe the incident happened at night but it was reported this morning, we have come to the spot. My grandfather Radheshaym used to live inside the temple for 20 years and give his services there. We just heard four-five search parties from the forest department are looking for his body," said his grandson before the body was located. The villagers are demanding accountability and action by forest department officials.
